Reports from 2024 warned about discounted Steam listings that appeared to mimic popular games, including Palworld and HELLDIVERS 2. Those reports do not establish that the same listings are on Steam now. Before paying, open the game’s exact Steam product page and check its title and developer or publisher—not just its artwork, discount badge or placement in a promotion.
What the reports do—and do not—show
Community posts in 2024 described suspicious discounted listings, including posts phrased as “fake Helldivers 2 store page on steam” and “beware of a discounted scam.” These are user reports, not official findings that establish a particular listing was fraudulent. Nor do they show that such a listing is live today. The available reports do not quantify how often this kind of fraud occurs.
A low price by itself is not proof of a scam. When checked on October 4, 2026, the official Palworld Steam page showed a 30% promotion. Prices, currencies, regional availability and sale end dates can change, so treat that as a dated listing detail rather than a current or recurring price.
How to check the game listing
- Open the official product page. Search for the game in Steam or navigate directly to its product page, rather than trusting a copied link, an ad or a promotional tile.
- Check the product identity. Compare the displayed title and the developer or publisher fields with the official page. The official Palworld page is Steam app 1623730 and names Pocketpair as both developer and publisher. The official HELLDIVERS 2 page is app 553850. Its details could not be confirmed from the page during the check because it presented an age gate; this article therefore does not make claims about its current price, publisher details or availability.
- Do not use the discount as your authenticity test. A large discount may warrant a closer look, but it does not by itself establish that a listing is fraudulent. Verify the page’s identity instead.
If the offer is for a CD key outside Steam
Steam Support warns that CD keys offered for sale can be for a different game, fake, used or region restricted. That is a general warning about keys, not proof that a particular seller or listing is fraudulent. Check what product and region the key covers before buying.

Valve’s published refund guidance says purchases made outside Steam—including third-party keys—cannot be refunded by Valve. That differs from a game purchased directly through Steam, so consider the seller’s own refund terms before purchasing an external key.
If you already bought the wrong game
For a purchase made on Steam, submit a request through Steam Support’s refund process promptly. Valve’s general refund rule is that the request should be made within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. The policy has conditions, and applicable local rights may also matter; consult the full guidance for your situation.

How to report a suspected scam or phishing account
If you suspect an account is scamming, hijacking accounts or phishing, Steam recommends reporting it through the relevant Steam profile. Follow Steam Support’s profile-reporting guidance. Do not buy a suspicious listing just to test whether it is genuine.
