To run a Beyond Cosmo multiplayer server, keep every installation on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.22, install Java 17, and use Forge’s installer in Install server mode. Copy the client’s config, kubejs, defaultconfigs, Tacz, and mods folders into the server directory, remove the client-only entries identified by the project, apply the documented server and ServerCore settings, and launch run.bat.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
The pack’s 8 GB recommendation is for client memory (10–12 GB when shaders are enabled), not a proven dedicated-server minimum. Hosting providers commonly advertise 8 GB as a starting point, but there is no independent benchmark establishing a universal RAM requirement or player limit.

What Beyond Cosmo requires
Beyond Cosmo is described on its CurseForge listing as an action-packed science-fiction pack with more than 400 mods, new dimensions and structures, high-tech weapons, automation, space exploration, FTB Teams multiplayer, and quests. The project description advertises more than 100 new mobs and more than 300 new structures. Its owner, blueversal, describes it as “an action packed sci-fi modpack with 400+ mods designed for a true challenge.”
The project page currently identifies Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. Its current main file is listed as Beyond Cosmo-Ver2.9.1, updated October 11, 2026. The listing reports 522,473 downloads on CurseForge in 2026. Release-page details can change, so verify the file name and game-loader combination when you download the pack.

Keep the client and server on the same release
A modded server is not compatible merely because it uses the same broad Minecraft version. For this setup, the practical match is Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.22, and the same Beyond Cosmo pack release on every client. Do not update one mod independently or mix files from another pack version while troubleshooting; the project specifically warns against individual mod updates.
RAM planning is guidance, not a benchmark
| Use case | Published figure | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Beyond Cosmo client | 8 GB | Project recommendation for the client allocation |
| Beyond Cosmo client with shaders | 10–12 GB | Project guidance when shaders are enabled |
| Game Host Bros example | 8 GB | Provider’s advertised recommended starting allocation in 2026 |
| WinterNode example | 8 GB | Provider’s advertised recommendation in 2026 |
| Higher hosting plans | 12 GB or 16 GB | Game Host Bros says these plans provide more headroom |
The client figures do not establish a server minimum. No independent test in the available material measures tick performance, player capacity, or a universal amount of server RAM. Treat 8 GB as a sensible planning starting point, then leave room to increase the allocation if your world, view distance, mods, or player load require it.

Install Java 17
Install a Java 17 runtime before running the Forge installer. Confirm that your operating system launches Java 17 rather than another Java version, because the pack’s documented setup is based on Java 17. Keep the Java installation available to the server account that will run the batch file.
Download the matching Forge installer
- Obtain the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.20.1, version 47.4.22.
- Run the installer with Java 17.
- Select Install server, not the client-install option.
- Choose a dedicated, otherwise empty folder for the server files and complete the installation.
The installer creates the Forge server environment in the folder you select. Use that folder as the server root for the Beyond Cosmo files in the next step. If the installer is pointed at a game-client folder, separate the server into its own directory so you can back it up and maintain it independently.

Copy the pack files from your client
The project’s setup sequence uses the files already installed by the Beyond Cosmo client. Close the game and launcher before copying so files are not being changed while you work.
- Open the Beyond Cosmo client instance that matches the server’s Minecraft, Forge, and pack versions.
- Open its instance directory.
- Copy the complete
configfolder into the Forge server directory. - Copy the complete
kubejsfolder. - Copy the complete
defaultconfigsfolder. - Copy the complete
Taczfolder. - Copy the complete
modsfolder. - Keep each folder at the server root with the same spelling and capitalization shown above. Merge or replace files when the copy operation asks, using the client files from the same pack release.
These folders carry the pack’s configuration, scripts, default world settings, Tacz data, and mod set. Copying only the mods directory is not the documented setup and can leave the server with missing configuration or scripts.

BetterF3BadOptimizationsentity-culling-forgefancymenuOculusRubidium ExtraSodium ExtrasVisuality
These entries are associated with visual, interface, or client-optimization functions rather than the dedicated server’s required simulation. Remove the corresponding files from the server’s mods directory after copying the client pack. Do not remove unrelated gameplay, world-generation, library, or scripting mods simply because they are large or unfamiliar; the project’s list is the authoritative release-specific filter.

Mac-specific notes
The project gives two additional Mac instructions: remove Spark, and downgrade Cosmic Horizon to version 0.0.7.2. Apply those changes only when they match your platform and the release instructions you are following. A downgrade made for another release can create a different mismatch, so keep a backup of the original client and server folders before changing it.
Do not add OptiFine or update individual mods
The project warns against adding OptiFine and against updating individual mods. A seemingly newer library or performance mod can change dependencies, configuration keys, or network behavior. If you need to change versions, update the complete Beyond Cosmo pack and repeat the client-to-server synchronization instead of replacing one jar.

Open the server’s server.properties file in a plain-text editor. The project’s optional guidance is to enable flight and set the server tick-time limit to -1. In the standard Minecraft property names, that corresponds to:
allow-flight=true
max-tick-time=-1
Use those values only if you intend to follow the project’s optional guidance. Keep a copy of the original file so you can revert a setting that does not suit your machine or administration policy.

- Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe!
- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
Coordinate render distance
Render distance must be considered in both places the project identifies: the render-distance value in server.properties and the corresponding setting in the ServerCore configuration. Set them deliberately rather than changing one and forgetting the other. A mismatch can make troubleshooting confusing because the server’s world-loading behavior and ServerCore’s management of that behavior are then based on different values.
The source does not establish a universal “best” render distance, player count, or tick-performance target. Start conservatively for your hardware and increase the value only after the server remains stable during normal exploration and combat.
Launch and connect
- Save the edited properties and ServerCore configuration files.
- Open the Forge server directory.
- Run
run.baton Windows. Use the Java/Forge launch script created by the installer on another operating system rather than trying to run a client launcher. - Allow the server to finish its startup process before connecting a client.
- Join with a Beyond Cosmo client using Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.22, and the same pack release.
For players outside your local network, port forwarding is environment-specific. The project directs operators to look up the appropriate instructions for their router and operating system. Use the documentation for your own network equipment, then give players the address and port exposed by that configuration. If you are not comfortable exposing a home network, a managed host avoids that particular networking task.
First checks when a client cannot join
- Version mismatch: confirm Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.22, and the same Beyond Cosmo release on both sides.
- Missing configuration: recopy
config, kubejs, defaultconfigs, andTaczfrom the matching client instance. - Client-only crash on the server: check that BetterF3, BadOptimizations, entity-culling-forge, fancymenu, Oculus, Rubidium Extra, Sodium Extras, and Visuality are not in the server’s
modsfolder. - Mac-specific failure: apply the project’s Spark removal and Cosmic Horizon 0.0.7.2 downgrade only where those release instructions apply.
- Unexpected behavior after a mod change: restore the backed-up pack and undo individual updates or OptiFine additions before testing again.
- Remote players cannot reach the server: check the router and operating-system port-forwarding rules for your network; this cannot be reduced to one universal procedure.
Choosing managed Beyond Cosmo server hosting
A managed host trades direct machine administration for a monthly fee. The useful promise is not a special Beyond Cosmo requirement; it is reduced setup work. Providers can automate Forge installation, provide a server-pack workflow, maintain backups, and offer support while you retain access to the game files and configuration.

Published examples
| Provider | Advertised details | How to interpret them |
|---|---|---|
| Game Host Bros | 8 GB recommended starting plan; one-click Forge 1.20.1 deployment; included server pack; daily backups; DDoS protection; 12 GB and 16 GB plans for more headroom | Provider claims published in 2026, not an independent performance test |
| WinterNode | 8 GB recommended; automatic installation; starting price listed as $15.92 per month | Provider recommendation and listed starting price in 2026; verify current price, availability, and pack support |
Game Host Bros also states that pre-generation can reduce exploration lag. That is a hosting-provider claim, not an independent benchmark, and the benefit depends on the world, settings, and hardware. Neither provider’s advertised figure proves a maximum player count or guarantees a particular tick rate.
What to verify before paying
- That the control panel offers Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.22, not merely a generic Forge or a different Forge build.
- That the supplied server pack is the current Beyond Cosmo release you intend to run.
- Whether the advertised RAM is dedicated to your instance and whether CPU limits are stated separately.
- How backups are scheduled, retained, downloaded, and restored.
- Whether DDoS protection, support, pre-generation tools, and scaling are included or sold as add-ons.
- The current monthly price, billing term, taxes, location availability, cancellation rules, and any promotional conditions.
- Whether you can upload your own
config, kubejs, defaultconfigs,Tacz, and mod files when the pack changes.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Install Java 17 and Forge, copy and clean the pack, edit settings, and launch the server. | One-click or automatic Forge deployment can reduce installation work. |
| File and mod control | Direct control of every folder, configuration file, and mod. | Control depends on the provider’s panel, file access, and server-pack policy. |
| Ongoing maintenance | You synchronize pack releases, preserve backups, troubleshoot Java and Forge, and maintain the machine. | The host handles much of the machine administration, while you still manage pack content and settings. |
| RAM and CPU headroom | Limited by the computer you own and what else is running on it. | Higher 12 GB or 16 GB plans can provide more headroom, subject to the provider’s CPU allocation. |
| Backups and recovery | You must create and test your own backups. | Advertised plans may include daily backups; verify retention and restoration details. |
| Network exposure | You handle port forwarding and expose the server through your own connection. | The provider supplies the public network endpoint and manages the hosting network. |
| Cost | No hosting subscription, but you supply hardware, electricity, storage, and administration. | Recurring cost; WinterNode lists a $15.92-per-month starting price, while exact plans and prices can change. |
| Support | Your support path is the project documentation and your own troubleshooting. | Managed providers advertise support, but response scope and hours differ by plan. |
Choose self-hosting when you want unrestricted file access, already have a suitable machine, and are comfortable maintaining Java, Forge, backups, and networking. Choose managed hosting when one-click deployment, a public endpoint, automated backups, and support are worth the recurring charge. In either case, the pack still needs the same Minecraft, Forge, Java, and mod-version discipline.
A maintenance routine that prevents avoidable breakage
Before changing the pack
- Record the Beyond Cosmo release, Minecraft version, Forge version, Java version, and the current server settings.
- Back up the server directory, especially
config, kubejs, defaultconfigs,Tacz, the world data, andmods. - Do not replace one mod jar in isolation. Prepare a complete client and server pair from the same pack release.
After changing the pack
- Repeat the documented copy procedure so the server receives the matching configuration and scripts.
- Recheck the client-only removal list, including the eight named entries.
- Confirm that server.properties and ServerCore use the intended flight, tick-time, and render-distance settings.
- Launch with
run.batand test connection with a client on the exact same versions.
When a host manages the machine
Managed installation removes much of the Java, Forge, and networking work, but it does not remove the need to verify the pack version or keep a recoverable copy of your configuration. Download backups when the panel permits it, and confirm that you can restore the server after a failed pack update.
Recommended setup path
For the most predictable result, install Java 17, create a Forge 47.4.22 server for Minecraft 1.20.1, copy the five required folders from the matching Beyond Cosmo client, remove the eight project-listed client or problematic mods, apply the optional server.properties and ServerCore guidance, and launch with run.bat. Start RAM planning around 8 GB while recognizing that this is guidance rather than a tested universal minimum. If Java installation, backups, or port forwarding are the obstacles, compare a managed 8 GB plan and verify its current price, Forge build, pack version, and recovery features before ordering.
