“Console” can mean a PlayStation or Xbox—or a text box for entering commands. In Baldur’s Gate 3, those are different things: console players can use eligible mods in the official in-game Mod Manager, while PC players also have access to a broader third-party modding ecosystem. Larian’s official sources describe mod support, not a built-in command console for entering cheats.
What “console cheats” and “PC console commands” mean in BG3
A cheat-like effect can come from a mod, but that does not mean the game has a native cheat-command interface. Larian’s documented tools are the in-game Mod Manager and, for PC players, the Toolkit for creating mods. The official material cited here does not document a built-in text command prompt on PC or console.
Some community guides describe using Norbyte’s Script Extender to expose a command-like interface on PC. This is a third-party modding route, not a standard Larian feature. Its setup and compatibility depend on the tool and game version; do not assume a guide or command works with your installed patch without checking the tool’s current release information.

Larian says only mods made and uploaded using its Toolkit that pass internal testing are eligible for the console and Mac in-game library. That curation helps explain why a PC mod—or a tool that depends on external utilities—may not have a console equivalent. What to check before installing a mod or following a command guide
Confirm game and mod versions
Mods and external tools can be affected by game updates. The latest listed update located in the cited official material is Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026, version 4.1.1.7209685, which Larian said was rolling out across platforms. Larian had identified Patch 8 as the final major update, while smaller hotfixes continued. Check the official news index, your installed game version, and the mod or tool’s supported versions rather than relying on an undated or older guide. The Hotfix 36 notes give the dated version information; Hotfix 30 explains that smaller fixes would follow Patch 8.
Protect an existing save
Larian warns that removing mods from an existing save can cause instability. Treat changes to a modded setup cautiously, especially when continuing a long-running save. Larian’s console-only Hotfix 29 introduced a 100-mod console limit with stability as its stated rationale. That limit is specific to consoles, not a universal PC cap.

Match mods in multiplayer
Larian says players loading a modded save or playing multiplayer with mods enabled need the same mod versions. Check the versions with everyone in the session before loading in; a matching mod name alone is not enough if the versions differ. See Larian’s guidance on playing with mods.

Which option fits your platform?
- On PS5 or Xbox: look for the desired effect in the official in-game Mod Manager. A PC-only utility or typed-command guide is not a console command route.
- On PC: use the official Mod Manager for supported library mods. If exploring external utilities or Script Extender-based command interfaces, treat them as third-party tools and verify their current compatibility separately.
