To host BigChadGuys Plus without Cobblemon, download the separate “BCG+ NC 2.14.1 Server Files” archive from the modpack’s CurseForge Additional Files section—not the ordinary client download. Extract it, adjust the included Fabric startup script’s memory allocation, accept Minecraft’s EULA, and then connect locally or forward the Minecraft port for remote players.

The pack is built for Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric Loader 0.17.3, and 301 mods in the 2.14.1 release. The instructions below cover a home server, a tunnel when router access is unavailable, and a managed host.

What you are setting up
BigChadGuys Plus (Non Cobblemon), commonly shortened to BCG+ NC, is a Fabric 1.20.1 modpack focused on cozy adventure, quests, exploration, recipes, Vanilla-plus additions, technology, shaders, and multiplayer. CurseForge lists BCG+ NC 2.14.1 as the main file and a separate server archive named BCG+ NC 2.14.1 Server Files. The catalogue record for that release specifies Fabric 0.17.3 and 301 mods. CurseForge reported 297,482 downloads and an October 30, 2025 update for the pack listing.
A modded server is a matched client-and-server installation. Your friends must run the same BCG+ NC version, Minecraft version, and mod set as the server. Uploading the regular client folder to a server is not a substitute for the server package and commonly leaves you with the wrong directory structure.

Download the correct non-Cobblemon server pack
- Open the BigChadGuys Plus (Non Cobblemon) project on CurseForge and go to its Files page.
- Select the version you intend to run. For the documented release, choose BCG+ NC 2.14.1.
- Open Additional Files for that release.
- Choose BCG+ NC 2.14.1 Server Files and click Download.
- Keep the downloaded ZIP separate from the client installation until you have verified its contents.
The project FAQ makes the distinction explicit: a filename such as BCG+ [Version] Server Files.zip is the server archive, while BigChadGuys Plus [Version].zip is the client download. Do not rename the client archive and treat it as a server pack.
Verify the archive before extracting
After extraction, the server package should contain these four directories:
configmodslibrariesresourcepacks
It should also contain these files:
fabric-server-launch.jarserver.jarstart.batstart.sh
If the extracted download contains only a config folder and overrides.json, you downloaded the client archive. Delete or set it aside, return to Additional Files, and download the entry explicitly labeled Server Files.
Prepare a home server
Choose a permanent server folder
Create a dedicated folder on the computer that will stay online—for example, C:MinecraftBCG-NC on Windows or ~/minecraft/bcg-nc on Linux. Extract the complete server ZIP directly into that folder. Avoid nesting the real files inside several ZIP-name folders; the startup script and both JAR files should be in the server’s top-level directory.
Use a computer with enough free disk space for the mod files, generated world, logs, and backups. The supplied documentation gives a memory requirement, but it does not state a fixed disk-size requirement because world size depends on exploration.

Set the Java memory allocation
Open the startup file for your operating system in a text editor:
- Windows:
start.bat - macOS or Linux:
start.sh
Each script includes a Java maximum-heap setting of -Xmx4G. Change that value when your player count requires more memory. Do not allocate every gigabyte in the computer to Minecraft; the operating system and other services still need memory.
Start the server
- Windows users double-click
start.batfrom the server folder. - macOS and Linux users run
start.shfrom a terminal. If the shell refuses to execute it, grant execute permission withchmod +x start.sh, then run./start.sh. - Allow the first startup to create its files. Modded first launches can take substantially longer than later launches.
- If the process stops and reports that the EULA has not been accepted, close the window, open
eula.txt, changeeula=falsetoeula=true, save it, and start the script again.
Only accept the EULA after reading Minecraft’s current terms. The server will not continue while the file remains set to false.
How much RAM does BCG+ NC need?
The pack’s official FAQ recommends a minimum of 4 GB for a dedicated server. For more than two players, it recommends adding 1 GB for every player after the first two. These are the FAQ’s planning figures, not a guarantee for every world, render distance, or mod interaction.

Set the value in the script to match your target allocation—for example, -Xmx6G for the four-player example. If the machine begins swapping, the server lags while the operating system is short of memory, or the Java process is killed, reduce other applications or move the server to a machine with more physical RAM. Increasing -Xmx alone cannot fix a slow CPU, a saturated upload connection, or a mod error.

Let players connect on the same network
Players on the same Wi-Fi or wired home network normally do not need router changes. Start the server, find the host computer’s local IP address, and have each player connect to that address in Minecraft’s multiplayer screen. The host can often use localhost on the same computer; another computer on the network must use the host’s local address.
All players still need the BCG+ NC client installed at the same version as the server. A player using the Cobblemon edition, a different BCG+ NC release, or a manually altered mod list may fail to connect even when the network address is correct.
Let friends join from outside your home
Option 1: Port forwarding
- Give the server computer a stable local address, preferably with a DHCP reservation in the router.
- In the router’s port-forwarding section, forward the Minecraft server port to that computer. The exact external port and protocol should match the server configuration and your router’s terminology.
- Allow Java or the server process through the computer’s firewall when prompted. A firewall rule that permits only the local network will still block remote friends.
- Give remote players your current public address and the server port. Do not publish that address publicly.
- Test from outside your home network, such as a friend’s connection or a mobile hotspot. Testing only from inside the same LAN can produce a misleading result because some routers do not support loopback connections.
Router menus vary, and an internet provider may place you behind carrier-grade NAT. In that case, a correctly configured forward can still be unreachable; ask the provider whether inbound connections are available before repeatedly changing settings.
Option 2: A tunnel
If you cannot configure the router, the FAQ identifies ngrok and Cloudflare Zero Trust as alternatives. A tunnel runs client software on the server computer and gives players a reachable endpoint without a conventional inbound router rule.
- ngrok: the FAQ notes a free allowance of up to 1 GB of bandwidth. Treat that as a usage limit, not unlimited hosting capacity.
- Cloudflare Zero Trust: the FAQ describes it as free, but says it requires payment details and client software.
Follow the tunnel provider’s current setup instructions for its Minecraft/TCP product. Keep the tunnel client private, restrict who receives the endpoint, and remember that a tunnel does not increase the server computer’s CPU, RAM, or upload capacity.

Use a managed Minecraft host
A managed host removes much of the router and always-on-computer work, but you must confirm that it accepts a custom Fabric server and lets you upload the supplied files. Provider panels, Java labels, backup tools, prices, and player limits change, so check the host’s current documentation before paying.
Files to upload
Upload the extracted server package—not the ZIP alone unless the provider specifically supports server-side extraction. The upload must include the config, mods, libraries, and resourcepacks folders, plus fabric-server-launch.jar, server.jar, and the startup files.
Configure the startup JAR
The official FAQ’s managed-host example uses a panel that supports custom JAR files:
- Upload the extracted files by FTP or the host’s file manager.
- Rename
fabric-server-launch.jartocustomjava17.jarif the panel requires that naming convention. - Open the host’s JAR-selection menu and choose Custom.
- Enable the panel’s Custom Java 17 option.
- Set the memory allocation according to the player-count guidance above and start the server.
The filename and menu labels in that example are provider-specific. Another host may require a different custom-JAR name, a startup command, or a different Java selector. Do not assume that a panel’s default JAR is compatible with Fabric 0.17.3.

Pre-generate terrain with Chunky
Exploring new chunks while several players travel can cause temporary CPU and disk spikes. The official FAQ recommends Chunky to generate terrain before players explore it.

- Start the server and run
chunky radius 1000in the server console or the appropriate in-game command context. - Begin generation with
chunky start. - Use
chunky pauseto pause the job orchunky cancelto stop it. - Run pre-generation when no one is playing, monitor disk space, and allow the process to finish before opening the server to a larger group.
A radius of 1000 represents a substantial amount of terrain. Start it only when you have enough storage and time, and stop it if the machine becomes unusable for other tasks.

The archive has no server JAR
Recheck the download. A correct archive includes both fabric-server-launch.jar and server.jar. A folder containing only client metadata such as overrides.json is the wrong download.
The startup window closes immediately
Run the script from a terminal so the error remains visible. Check that Java is installed and available to the script, that the JAR files are in the same top-level folder, and that the script has permission to execute. On the first launch, inspect eula.txt and accept the EULA if you agree to it.
Players receive a mod or version mismatch
Confirm that the server and every client use BCG+ NC 2.14.1, Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric 0.17.3, and the same 301-mod release. Do not copy extra client-only mods into the server or remove server-required mods to make a launcher start.
Friends cannot connect remotely
Verify the server is running, the local firewall allows the Java process, the router forward targets the correct computer, and the friend is using the public address rather than the host’s private LAN address. If the router has no reachable public address because of carrier-grade NAT, use a supported tunnel or ask the internet provider about inbound connectivity.

The server is laggy after adding players
Compare the allocation with the FAQ’s 4 GB minimum and its one-gigabyte-per-player-after-two rule. Close competing applications, avoid running Chunky during play, and check whether the connection’s upload speed is sufficient. More RAM cannot compensate for every performance problem.
A safe operating routine
- Stop the server cleanly before copying or restoring world files.
- Keep at least one backup outside the live server folder, and make additional backups before changing mods, Java settings, or world-generation settings.
- Record the exact pack release and server memory setting so every player can reproduce the installation.
- Do not expose admin credentials, tunnel tokens, or router login details in screenshots or chat.
- Update only after checking that the client and server files are intended to be used together.
Recommended setup path
For a small group, the least error-prone route is to download the explicitly labeled BCG+ NC server archive, verify its four folders and two JARs, run the included script with at least 4 GB allocated, accept the EULA, and test from the same network. Add router forwarding only after local play works. If router access is impossible, use a tunnel; if you need continuous uptime without maintaining a home machine, choose a managed host that confirms custom Fabric/JAR support.
