A single run follows a simple pattern:
- Move the hammer over the piggy banks on screen.
- Strike them to break them and collect coins.
- Watch your stamina drain with each smash. Smashing consumes stamina.
- When your hand tires, the run ends.
Because the run is capped by stamina rather than by time, the pacing comes from how efficiently you hit piggies before your hand gives out. The developer says this makes the game active rather than idle: progress depends on your input during play, not only on numbers ticking up while you are away.
Bills, deadlines, and the debt collector
Bills appear during play and carry deadlines. According to the developer, ignoring a bill lets a debt collector take a cut of your earnings. Paying bills is the other side of the loop: it unlocks perks and advances progression.

The developer’s published description does not spell out how large the collector’s cut is, how many bills can stack, or what happens to a bill that is paid late after its deadline. Those details are better confirmed in the game itself than assumed from this summary.
Piggy types, random loot, and hammers
Piggy banks come in different types, and loot is random. Hammers are the other variable. The developer says hammers differ in four characteristics:
- Damage per hit
- Swing speed
- Critical chance
- Hit radius
The sources reviewed do not publish numeric values for these stats, so no per-hammer comparison can be stated here. Choosing a hammer is best judged in play: a hammer that hits harder is not necessarily one that clears a crowded screen faster.

Spending coins on the skill tree
Coins can also be invested in a skill tree. Coins therefore have two uses that compete with each other: paying bills keeps the collector off your earnings and unlocks perks, while skill-tree investment shapes how efficiently you collect in future runs. The official description does not state the skill tree’s size or the exact effect of each node.

The phrase “strangely satisfying” and the stress-buster angle describe how the game is meant to feel: repetitive, tactile smashing with a clear payoff. That is a subjective reading of the premise. It is not a measured effect on stress, and nothing in the developer’s page or the store listings shows a clinical benefit, treatment claim, or stress-reduction result. If you play it to unwind, that is a personal experience rather than a documented outcome.
The game’s own descriptions do not claim it is more relaxing than other incremental games, and this article does not make that claim either.

Controls and setup on desktop
On the browser version, the left mouse button moves the hammer, according to CrazyGames. Any standard mouse does this job. Nothing in the available descriptions requires a premium or gaming-specific mouse, so a mouse you already own is enough to play.

Rike Games’ official page states: “Our games have over 500,000 downloads and 20 million web plays.” These are developer-reported totals across the studio’s games, not figures for Bills Must Be Paid alone. The page does not give a date for them, and they have not been independently audited. Treat them as a sign of the studio’s reach, not as this game’s sales or audience size.
