GOG says neither activation nor an online connection is required to play, and each game has a fully offline installer. The GOG release dates to December 2018; the classic versions were added to owners’ libraries in February 2019.
Are BioShock 1 and 2 on GOG?
Yes. GOG currently lists BioShock Remastered and BioShock 2 Remastered as separate Windows products. The “first time” in the original release announcement refers to these games becoming available DRM-free on GOG; it does not establish that DRM-free copies had never been available through any other store.

Are the GOG editions DRM-free, and can you play without Galaxy?
GOG’s product pages state: “DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.” GOG Galaxy is optional: the pages offer fully offline installers, so you can download the installer and play without running Galaxy. GOG qualifies that some bonus content may require an internet connection to download.
What comes with each GOG game?
| GOG product | Included games and content | Listed features |
|---|---|---|
| BioShock Remastered | BioShock Classic, Challenge Rooms, and the Museum of Orphaned Concepts | High-resolution textures, models and interface; 4K resolution support; achievements; full controller support; and director commentary featuring Ken Levine and Shawn Robertson |
| BioShock 2 Remastered | BioShock 2 Classic and Minerva’s Den Remastered, a self-contained BioShock story | The Protector Trials, high-resolution assets, and 4K support |
These inclusions are stated on GOG’s BioShock Remastered and BioShock 2 Remastered pages. The games are sold separately rather than as a single GOG bundle containing the full series.

When did the GOG releases happen?
GOG announced the remasters on December 17, 2018, writing that “BioShock™ and BioShock 2™ Remastered are finally available DRM-free.” In a February 26, 2019 update in the same thread, GOG said the classic versions were available in the GOG library to owners of either remaster. That makes the classic editions a later addition to the GOG offer, not the original December release.
Will your PC meet GOG’s listed requirements?
Both product pages currently show the same Windows requirements. These are GOG’s published specifications, not independent compatibility test results.

BioShock: The Collection is a separate product, not the same offer as the two GOG PC games. In its September 13, 2016 announcement, 2K described a two-disc console collection containing BioShock, BioShock 2, BioShock Infinite, and single-player add-on content. It announced North American PS4 and Xbox One availability for September 13, international console availability for September 16, and a Windows PC release via Steam scheduled for September 15.
