BioWare revealed that its next Dragon Age game is called Dragon Age: The Veilguard, replacing its working title, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The studio scheduled a gameplay first look for June 11, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. PT, promising more than 15 minutes of footage from the game’s opening—not just a standalone trailer.
When was Dragon Age: The Veilguard announced?
BioWare announced the new title on June 6, 2024. The game was previously known by its working title, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. BioWare presented The Veilguard as a single-player story set in Thedas, centered on a new hero and seven companions.
Executive producer for Dragon Age and BioWare general manager Gary McKay said the change was meant to better reflect the importance of the new heroes and their stories: “So, to capture what this game is all about, we changed the name as the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas.” (BioWare’s June 6 announcement)

What did BioWare show on June 11?
BioWare’s June 11 gameplay journal described the opening’s character-creation and gameplay systems. Players could create their hero, choose one of three classes—Warrior, Mage, or Rogue—and select a faction that affects narrative and gameplay interactions. An ability wheel could pause the action so players could choose abilities and give companions commands. (BioWare’s June 11 journal)
What was the game about?
BioWare said it had explored several gameplay concepts after Dragon Age: Inquisition, including a multiplayer concept, before refocusing on a single-player game. The announcement described a standalone story in Thedas, with a new lead hero and seven companions whose storylines and relationships could be shaped by player decisions. When did Dragon Age: The Veilguard launch?
EA initially listed the game for Fall 2024. BioWare later confirmed a worldwide launch date of October 31, 2024, and EA announced it was available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
