In Hypixel SkyBlock, Black Cat and Warden Helmet interact because Black Cat raises the player’s speed cap, while Warden Helmet converts speed into additive base-weapon damage. The Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki describes Warden Helmet’s speed penalty and damage scaling, and its Black Cat entry specifically identifies the pairing as a way to raise the helmet’s potential multiplier.
That does not make Black Cat the best pet for every build. If your priority is maximum damage, player discussions commonly favor a damage-focused pet; Black Cat is more situational when speed, magic find, or the extra speed ceiling matters. Those recommendations are player opinions rather than an official universal ranking.

What the two items do together
The interaction is based on the way each item handles speed. Warden Helmet applies a speed penalty but rewards speed with damage. Black Cat does not remove that penalty; instead, it increases the ceiling that your speed can reach before Warden Helmet’s calculation is applied.
| Item | Relevant effect | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Warden Helmet | Halves your speed and grants additive base-weapon damage for each 25 speed, according to the helmet entry on the Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki. | Speed is both a drawback and a damage-scaling stat while the helmet is equipped. |
| Black Cat | Raises the speed cap by 100, according to the Black Cat entry on the same community wiki. | More speed can remain available for Warden Helmet’s speed-based damage calculation. |
The important implementation detail is order: the wiki explanation says the speed cap is applied before Warden Helmet halves speed. A cap increase therefore can raise the helmet’s maximum possible damage multiplier. The pet is not simply adding a flat damage bonus, and it does not prevent the helmet from cutting speed in half.

How Warden Helmet’s speed scaling works
The helmet’s ability text
The Warden Helmet entry reproduces the ability as: “Halves your speed but grants +20% base weapon damage for every 25 speed.” This is item text reported by a community-maintained wiki, not an official Hypixel announcement.
Two parts of that wording matter:
- “Halves your speed” means equipping the helmet imposes a substantial movement-speed cost.
- “Base weapon damage” means the bonus is additive to the weapon’s base-damage component. It should not be read as a guaranteed 20% increase to your final number after every other modifier.
The 25-speed interval is a scaling step. Your actual bonus depends on the speed value used by the game at that moment and on how many complete intervals are counted. A character with more usable speed can therefore obtain a larger Warden Helmet bonus, subject to the game’s cap and calculation rules.
Why the cap matters
Every capped stat has a point beyond which additional investment cannot increase the value used by the game. If your uncapped speed is already above that ceiling, the excess normally cannot help Warden Helmet. Increasing the ceiling creates room for some of that otherwise-lost speed to count.

Black Cat’s reported speed-cap increase is 100. That number describes additional cap room, not a guaranteed 100 speed on your character sheet and not a fixed amount of damage. You still need enough speed from your equipment, accessories, buffs, or other sources to reach the newly available range. If your build never approaches the original cap, raising it may have no measurable effect on the helmet’s damage bonus.
What “cap before halving” means in practice
It is easy to assume that Warden Helmet first cuts your speed and that Black Cat then raises the reduced value. The wiki’s mechanics description indicates the opposite order:

- GIFT IDEA FOR KIDS – Makes a wonderful birthday or any-time gift idea for boys and girls
- The game considers your speed and applies the applicable speed cap.
- Black Cat’s cap increase expands that ceiling by 100.
- Warden Helmet applies its speed-halving effect.
- The helmet’s speed-based damage scaling uses the resulting game calculation.
Because the cap check happens before the halving step, the pet can affect the highest multiplier the helmet can reach. If the cap were applied only after the helmet’s penalty, Black Cat’s cap increase would not provide the same opportunity. The interaction is therefore real even though the visible speed penalty remains.
The exact damage gained in a particular setup cannot be read from the pet’s +100 figure alone. You must know your uncapped speed, the relevant cap in your current game version, and the way the game rounds or counts the 25-speed increments. The available sources establish the interaction and the cap increase, but they do not provide a universal damage table for every build.
When Black Cat actually increases Warden Helmet damage
Cases where the cap increase can matter
- Your uncapped speed is high enough to reach the old cap while Warden Helmet is equipped.
- Part of your speed would otherwise be discarded by that cap.
- Black Cat’s additional 100 cap allows some of the discarded speed to remain in the calculation.
- Your activity and equipment can maintain that speed while still meeting your damage, survivability, and utility requirements.
In this situation, Black Cat can raise the helmet’s potential multiplier. The gain is larger for a build that is already speed-heavy than for a build whose speed sits comfortably below the original ceiling.
Cases where it changes little or nothing
- Your uncapped speed is below the original cap, so no speed was being lost.
- You equip the pet but do not have enough speed sources to use the newly available cap room.
- Your activity values another pet effect more than the additional speed ceiling.
- The helmet’s damage bonus is not the limiting factor in your damage output; weapon choice, combat stats, survivability, or another modifier matters more.
In those cases, Black Cat may still be useful for its broader speed or magic-find role, but the Warden Helmet interaction by itself is unlikely to justify the choice.
A safe way to think about the numbers
Use the following conceptual model rather than treating +100 cap as an automatic damage percentage:

Warden Helmet then applies its halving effect, and its ability grants additive base-weapon damage in 25-speed steps. The model tells you when the pet can help: only speed that would have been clipped by the old cap is newly eligible.
For an illustrative comparison, imagine three players with the same Warden Helmet but different uncapped speed:
| Uncapped speed relative to the normal cap | Effect of Black Cat’s higher cap | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Well below the normal cap | No additional speed is unlocked. | The Warden Helmet calculation is effectively unchanged by the cap increase. |
| Between the normal cap and the normal cap plus 100 | Some previously clipped speed can count. | The potential helmet multiplier can rise, depending on the 25-speed steps reached. |
| At or above the normal cap plus 100 | The full additional cap room is available, but no further speed can count beyond the new ceiling. | This is the situation in which Black Cat offers its greatest possible Warden-Helmet benefit. |
These rows describe the mechanic, not a promise of a specific final damage value. Your displayed stats and damage depend on the rest of your build and on the game’s current implementation.
Is Black Cat the best pet for a Warden Helmet build?
There is no universal answer. The correct choice depends on what you are optimizing and whether your current speed can use the extra cap.

| Your priority | How Black Cat fits | Decision question |
|---|---|---|
| Speed-oriented play | Potentially attractive because the higher cap preserves more speed for the helmet’s calculation and supports a speed-focused setup. | Does the activity reward movement speed enough to offset the opportunity cost of another pet? |
| Magic find or general utility | Can be reasonable when those benefits matter independently of Warden Helmet. | Would you still choose Black Cat if you removed the helmet from the comparison? |
| Highest possible damage | Situational. Player discussions often recommend a damage-focused pet instead when raw damage is the only objective. | Does the extra helmet scaling beat the damage pet’s direct offensive contribution in your actual build? |
| Low-speed or defensive setup | Usually less compelling as a Warden-specific choice because the build may not reach the cap. | Are you losing speed to Warden Helmet without using enough of the scaling that makes the loss worthwhile? |
Community discussions are useful for identifying common build preferences, but they are not controlled tests and do not establish a current meta for every class, activity, budget, or patch. Treat “damage pet wins” as a starting hypothesis to verify against your own numbers, not as a rule that overrides the mechanics.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare Black Cat with another pet
A fair comparison requires keeping everything except the pet constant. Otherwise, a change in weapon, armor, accessories, reforges, temporary buffs, or combat conditions can be mistaken for a pet effect.
- Choose the activity first. Decide whether the test represents the dungeon, boss, slayer, or general combat situation in which you will actually play. A pet that is excellent for movement or magic find may not be the best choice for a stationary damage check.
- Record your baseline. With the Warden Helmet and your normal equipment equipped, note your speed and a repeatable damage result against the same type of target. Use the same weapon and combat conditions for every comparison.
- Check whether you are cap-limited. Determine whether your uncapped speed is reaching the normal ceiling. If it is not, Black Cat’s cap increase cannot unlock additional speed for the helmet.
- Equip Black Cat without changing anything else. Compare the speed and damage result. The relevant question is whether speed that was previously clipped can now contribute, not whether the pet displays a generic speed increase.
- Repeat with the alternative pet. Measure the same target and conditions. Include the alternative pet’s direct offensive or utility effects rather than comparing only the Warden Helmet component.
- Test realistic thresholds. If your speed is near a 25-speed boundary, test the setup on both sides of that boundary. Small equipment changes can alter which scaling interval is counted.
- Choose for the activity, not the spreadsheet alone. A slightly higher theoretical hit may be less useful if it costs movement, survivability, consistency, or the utility your activity requires.
This procedure gives you a build-specific answer without pretending that a community discussion or a single character sheet represents every player.
Common misunderstandings
“Black Cat cancels Warden Helmet’s speed penalty.”
It does not. Warden Helmet still halves speed. Black Cat changes the cap that is applied before the halving step, so the helmet can potentially use a higher pre-halving value.
“The pet gives a fixed damage bonus.”
It does not provide a stated flat percentage to weapon damage in the supplied mechanics. Its contribution is indirect: a higher cap may let Warden Helmet’s speed-based scaling reach a higher value.

“Every player gets the same benefit from +100 cap.”
No. A player below the original cap may gain nothing from the additional ceiling, while a speed-stacked player can make use of more of it. The amount of damage gained depends on the speed actually available and the 25-speed scaling intervals.
“The helmet’s 20% wording means 20% of final damage.”
The cited ability wording specifies additive damage to the base weapon damage. It should not be presented as a universal multiplier on the final hit after all other calculations.
“Player recommendations are official balance guidance.”
They are not. The mechanics are documented by a community-maintained Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki, and the pet recommendations come from player discussions. Neither source is an official Hypixel confirmation of a best-in-slot ranking.
Bottom line for a Warden Helmet user
Black Cat works with Warden Helmet because its 100-point speed-cap increase can preserve more speed for the helmet’s damage calculation. The pairing is most relevant when your build is already fast enough to hit the normal cap and your activity benefits from speed or magic find. If your sole goal is maximum damage, compare it directly with a damage-focused pet under identical conditions; community advice often favors that alternative, but the result is build- and activity-dependent.
