In ELDEN RING, the Black Knife is a dagger tied to the Night of the Black Knives. You can obtain it by defeating the Black Knife Assassin outside Sainted Hero’s Grave in Altus Plateau. Its unique skill, Blade of Death, fires a projectile that also temporarily reduces an enemy’s maximum HP and drains HP.
The name is ambiguous: DELTARUNE also uses “Black Knife” for a soundtrack track and as the Knight’s sword name.
What is the Black Knife in Elden Ring?
It is an in-game dagger, not a real-world knife recommendation or a physical replica. Bandai Namco describes ELDEN RING as an action RPG with a wide range of weapons and skills on its official game page.
The weapon’s item description reads: “Dagger once belonging to one of the assassins who murdered Godwyn the Golden on the Night of the Black Knives. A ritual performed on the oddly misshapen blade imbued it with the power of the stolen Rune of Death.”

Where do you find the Black Knife?
Defeat the Black Knife Assassin positioned outside Sainted Hero’s Grave in Altus Plateau. The location and encounter are listed by the community-maintained Elden Ring Wiki’s Black Knife guide.
What does Blade of Death do?
Blade of Death is the Black Knife’s unique skill. It sends a blade-like projectile; a successful hit deals damage and applies a temporary effect that reduces the target’s maximum HP and drains HP over time. The skill’s added effects make it distinct from a simple ranged strike.
