Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool is a free, separate Steam download released on August 12, 2024. It tests PC performance through a real-time in-game sequence, supports DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, and is useful for comparing settings—but it is not a playable version of Black Myth: Wukong and cannot guarantee performance throughout the full game.
What the Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool does
Game Science released the Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool as a free, separate download on Steam on August 12, 2024. It renders a short in-game sequence in real time so you can test different graphics settings and get a baseline for your PC before buying or playing Black Myth: Wukong.

It is not a playable demo. Steam describes the utility as a separate, non-playable application, and installing it does not provide access to the full game.
The benchmark supports testing with NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS. However, the published information confirms that these technologies are available for testing; it does not establish that one is universally better than the others, nor does it confirm a particular frame-generation result on every graphics card.

Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool system requirements
Steam lists the following minimum and recommended specifications. The published specifications were tested with DLSS, FSR, and XeSS enabled.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500 |
| Memory | 16GB RAM | 16GB RAM |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A750 |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 9GB available space; SSD recommended | 9GB available space; SSD required |
These are the requirements for the benchmark utility as listed on Steam. They are useful compatibility targets, but they should not be treated as a promise that the full game will run at a particular resolution, quality preset, or frame rate.
How to use the free benchmark
- Install the Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool from Steam. It is a separate application from the game and requires about 9GB of available storage.
- Check your PC against the requirements. Compare your processor, graphics card and VRAM, 16GB of system memory, Windows version, DirectX support, and available storage with the table above.
- Choose your intended display resolution. Test at the resolution you expect to use in the game. A result at 1080p is not a reliable substitute for a result at 1440p or 4K.
- Run the benchmark with a preset first. This gives you a consistent starting point before you begin changing individual settings.
- Test upscaling modes separately. Compare DLSS, FSR, and XeSS where your hardware and the available settings allow it. Change one major variable at a time so you can tell what affected the result.
- Repeat the test after making changes. Keep the resolution, preset, upscaling mode, and other graphics options recorded for each run.
The tool can be used with presets or manually selected graphics settings, according to launch coverage from TechRadar. That makes it more useful for finding a workable combination than a single pass on an automatic preset.
How to interpret the benchmark result
A completed run tells you how your PC handled the benchmark sequence under that particular configuration. It does not guarantee that the full game will maintain the same performance everywhere.
Steam warns that the complexity and variability of game scenarios can make benchmark results different from the actual gameplay experience. A short rendered scene cannot necessarily represent every environment, effect, traversal section, boss fight, or combat encounter in Black Myth: Wukong.

Use the result as a baseline rather than a pass-or-fail certificate:
- If the benchmark is unstable or unplayable at your target settings, lower the resolution or graphics quality and test again.
- If one upscaling mode performs better, verify the result with the same resolution and graphics settings before drawing a conclusion.
- If performance is acceptable but close to your minimum comfort level, leave some headroom. This is practical guidance based on the benchmark’s limited scope, not a developer-published frame-rate requirement.
- Do not translate one run into a guarantee such as “this PC will deliver that frame rate throughout the game.”
DLSS vs. FSR vs. XeSS in the benchmark
The Steam requirements specifically mention testing with all three technologies:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- DLSS: NVIDIA’s upscaling option, available only where the hardware and game implementation support it.
- FSR: AMD’s upscaling option, with hardware availability depending on the implementation and setting.
- XeSS: Intel’s upscaling option, also included among the technologies used when testing the listed specifications.
The benchmark’s support for these options lets you compare them on your own system. The available release information does not support naming a universal winner for image quality or performance. Results can vary with the graphics card, resolution, preset, driver, and selected quality mode.
What if your PC falls short?
First identify which part of the system is below the listed tier. A graphics card below the minimum can be the most important limitation for rendering performance, while insufficient RAM, an unsupported operating system, or inadequate storage can prevent the utility from working as expected.
If you are shopping for a replacement rather than adjusting settings, look for a gaming PC or individual PC gaming hardware that meets at least the recommended CPU and GPU classes, includes 16GB or more of RAM, supports DirectX 12, and has an SSD. No generic configuration can guarantee a particular frame rate, so use the official requirements as a baseline and check the benchmark after installation.

These eye-catching lights give your setup a gamer-ready look while maintaining focus on performance. (*Note: The USB connector is for LED lighting only)
An SSD is also relevant to the storage requirement: Steam recommends one for the minimum tier and requires one for the recommended tier. An internal NVMe SSD may improve storage responsiveness and loading-related behavior, but it is not a guaranteed fix for low graphics performance. An SSD cannot compensate for a graphics card or processor that is below the required class.
Reported launch-period testing
TechRadar described the tool as a brief real-time scene with preset and manual graphics controls and reported results from an RTX 3060 test system. That observation is useful as an example of how one reviewer’s configuration behaved, but it is not a universal result for every RTX 3060 PC. Differences in processor, memory, drivers, resolution, cooling, background applications, and settings can all change the outcome.
Your own repeatable runs are therefore more useful than borrowing a frame-rate figure from another system. Record the configuration alongside each result.

| It can help you | It cannot guarantee |
|---|---|
| Check whether your PC is broadly within the published hardware range. | A specific frame rate throughout the full game. |
| Establish a baseline at your intended resolution. | Identical performance in every area or combat encounter. |
| Compare presets and manually selected settings. | That a benchmark result represents the final gameplay experience in all scenarios. |
| Compare DLSS, FSR, and XeSS on your own supported hardware. | That one upscaling technology is universally superior. |
Bottom line
The Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool is a useful, free Steam download for checking PC compatibility and comparing settings before playing the game. It supports testing with DLSS, FSR, and XeSS and publishes clear minimum and recommended hardware targets. Treat it as a controlled starting point—not as a playable demo or a guarantee of performance across the entire game.

No. The benchmark renders a limited sequence, while the full game contains more varied environments and gameplay situations. Use the result as a baseline and leave some performance headroom.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Download the free Steam benchmark to establish a baseline for your PC, test your intended resolution and settings, and compare DLSS, FSR, or XeSS. Remember that the separate, non-playable utility cannot guarantee the same performance in every part of Black Myth: Wukong.
