Streams Charts’ launch-week statistics page records 5.58 million hours watched on August 20, 2024, the game’s release day, and a peak of 485,374 concurrent viewers. Its August 22 article rounds those numbers to more than 5.5 million hours and 485,300 viewers. These are Streams Charts’ reported figures, not statistics issued by Twitch.

“Hours watched” adds together the time viewers spent watching streams; it is not the number of unique people who watched. “Peak concurrent viewers” is the highest number watching at the same time. Streams Charts’ reported ranking put Wukong first among 2024 new releases on both release-day measures.
What made Wukong’s Twitch launch stand out?
It drew more watch time than several other major 2024 releases
In its comparison, Streams Charts said Wukong exceeded Palworld, Dragon’s Dogma II, and Wuthering Waves in release-day watch time. The result is notable alongside creator coverage: just over 26,000 channels streamed Wukong on launch day, compared with 26,300 for Wuthering Waves and 30,300 for Palworld. Wukong led on viewership measures, not channel count.

Streams Charts attributed 39% of Wukong’s release-day watch time to English-language streams, followed by Russian at 12.6% and Chinese at 11.3%. These are the analytics publisher’s language figures, rather than official Twitch statements.
Chat activity rose sharply on release day
Streams Charts counted more than 61,000 game-related Twitch chat mentions on August 20, compared with fewer than 5,000 per day before release. The figures indicate a marked launch-day increase in discussion, but do not by themselves establish how many unique users participated.

What does “top new release of 2024” mean here?
The wording refers specifically to Streams Charts’ comparison of new releases by watch time and peak concurrent viewership on each game’s release day. The official Steam Community announcement set the global release for August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM Beijing time (UTC+8), and listed PS5, Steam, Epic Games Store, and WeGame. It describes the game as an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and adapted from Journey to the West.
