Black Myth: Wukong reached a Steam all-time peak of 2,415,714 concurrent players on 22 August 2024, according to SteamDB. The figure came two days after the game’s Steam release and supports its status as the platform’s record-setting single-player game; it is not a sales total or a count across all platforms.
How many players did Black Myth: Wukong have on Steam?
SteamDB’s historical chart records Black Myth: Wukong’s all-time Steam peak as 2,415,714 concurrent players on 22 August 2024. That is the highest recorded number of people playing the game through Steam at the same time, not the number of copies sold or everyone who has ever played it. SteamDB’s chart is a third-party tracker, and its figure is specific to Steam.
The game’s listed Steam release date is 20 August 2024, making the peak two days after launch. SteamDB classifies the title as single-player, which is the basis for describing it as a single-player concurrent-player record on Steam. SteamDB’s game listing describes it as an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology.
Why did launch reports give different player counts?
The figures reported on 20 August were snapshots taken at different points during the launch. GameDeveloper reported that the game had passed 2.2 million Steam players, citing SteamDB. Siliconera cited an earlier 24-hour peak of 2,138,142 as of 9:10 a.m. ET that day. Those early reports preceded the higher historical peak recorded for 22 August; they are not competing claims about the final all-time high.

What the record does—and does not—measure
Concurrent players count people playing at the same time on a particular platform. The Steam peak does not measure total sales, total lifetime players, or simultaneous players across PC and PlayStation 5. It also should not be described as a record for every game or platform: the supported claim is a Steam concurrent-player record for a game classified as single-player.
Sales were a separate milestone. Game Science announced more than 10 million copies sold across PC and PlayStation 5 on 23 August 2024, as reported by Le Monde. That cross-platform sales figure cannot be compared directly with Steam’s concurrent-player count.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology and the classic novel Journey to the West. That source material provides context for the game’s subject, but it does not change what Steam’s player chart measures.
