What was the Black Myth: Wukong controversy?
There was more than one criticism, and they should not be collapsed into a single allegation. In an August 26, 2024 report, Le Monde described criticism of conditions Game Science imposed on creators who received advance access to the game. The report also covered criticism in China of statements by studio representatives on social media and of company recruitment advertisements.
These are reported controversies, not evidence that every allegation was established or that all players shared the same view. The reporting noted that the criticism did not prevent substantial attention for the release.

What is Black Myth: Wukong, and when did it come to PS5?
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. PlayStation describes it as “an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.” Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, and the novel’s mythic world provide the story’s cultural backdrop.
The PS5 release date was August 20, 2024. PlayStation’s US store lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. Edition availability and prices can vary by region and change over time.
