During the September 2024 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta, some players reported being banned despite believing they had done nothing wrong. Activision said Team RICOCHET was testing detection features and monitoring telemetry, and would make adjustments to reduce player issues. The reports did not establish why any particular account was banned—or how many bans, if any, were mistaken.
What happened during the Black Ops 6 beta?
Activision scheduled early access for August 30–September 4, 2024, followed by the open beta from September 6–9. Access conditions varied by weekend and platform. These were events in 2024, not a current beta. Activision’s beta schedule lists the dates.

On September 1, Dexerto reported complaints from players who said they had been banned despite doing nothing wrong. Its article quoted a statement attributed to Call of Duty Updates: “During the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Beta, we are testing features and monitoring telemetry. TeamRICOCHET is being proactive with detections during the Beta to stamp out illicit and compromised accounts across all platforms.”
The statement also said: “The team will continue to make adjustments to reduce issues players have been experiencing while maintaining our commitment to remove cheaters.” The remarks were attributed to Call of Duty Updates; the report did not identify a specific individual speaker. Dexerto’s September 1 report provides the quoted context.

Did Black Ops 6 beta falsely ban players?
Players reported bans they believed were in error, and Dexerto described a prominent player whose ban was quickly reversed. Other players said they remained banned. That coverage documents complaints and an example of a reversal, but it does not independently prove that every affected account was innocent or explain the decision on any particular account.
The report did not establish the scale of mistaken enforcement. No attributable statistic in the cited coverage gives a number or rate of wrongful beta bans, so individual posts and examples cannot be used to estimate how common they were.

Why might an account have been banned?
Activision said it was testing detection features and monitoring telemetry while proactively detecting illicit and compromised accounts. It also said it would adjust its approach to reduce player issues. That explains the beta context, but it does not identify the reason for an individual enforcement action.
Dexerto described possible explanations such as spam reporting or gameplay-based flagging as unresolved, not confirmed causes. The available reporting does not support attributing any player’s ban to strong gameplay, reports from other players, or a specific software interaction.

Did Activision confirm a specific fix?
The official Weekend 2 open-beta patch notes discuss player feedback, gameplay changes, and stability work. They do not specify a ban-system fix or give a count of wrongful bans. That omission does not establish whether other changes were made.

Activision’s current ban appeal guidance, accessed October 8, 2026, distinguishes enforcement types. It is current support guidance, not proof of what happened to a beta account or necessarily the exact rules in effect in 2024.

The same support guidance says account holders are responsible for infractions regardless of who was playing. Check the enforcement status on your account and consult the official appeal page for the current process; eligibility depends on the type of enforcement, and an appeal does not guarantee a reversal.
