When was the Black Ops 6 free trial?
Xbox announced that Game Pass members could play Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from October 9 through October 16, 2025. The week-long Free Play Days offer included the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. Xbox specified more than 40 Multiplayer maps and all six Round-Based Zombies maps. The offer was accessed through Free Play Days and the Xbox store, and players could purchase the game to continue afterward. Xbox’s announcement described eligibility as applying to Game Pass members.

That event has ended. It was not the only temporary Black Ops 6 offer announced in 2025: Call of Duty separately announced a May 30–June 3 offer for Multiplayer and Zombies, without Campaign access in the cited announcement. The Season 04 announcement confirms that earlier event.
Did the trial overlap Battlefield 6 Season 1?
No. Battlefield 6 launched October 10, 2025, one day after the Black Ops 6 event started. The Black Ops 6 offer ended October 16; Battlefield 6 Season 1 launched October 28, alongside the free-to-play REDSEC experience. Season 1 added maps, modes, vehicles, and weapons. EA and Battlefield Studios’ Season 1 announcement dates that launch and describes REDSEC as featuring Battle Royale, Portal, and Gauntlet.

So the Black Ops 6 offer was close to Battlefield 6’s full-game launch, not an overlapping promotion for Season 1. Calling it an attempt to combat that season would go beyond what the dates show: the official announcements reviewed do not say that Activision launched the trial for that reason.
How the two Battlefield 6 trials fit the timeline
The October Black Ops 6 event should not be confused with Battlefield 6’s own Season 1 trial. EA later ran that separate trial from November 25 through December 2, 2025—almost a month after Season 1 began.

EA said players accessed the Battlefield 6 trial by downloading REDSEC. It offered three playlists across three maps. REDSEC progress carried into the trial and, for players who bought the full game, into Battlefield 6. EA’s free-trial announcement gives those terms. The announcements do not establish equivalent access rules or progress terms for the October Black Ops 6 event, so the two offers should not be treated as matching trials.
What the dates say—and what they do not
- Timing: Black Ops 6’s seven-day event began one day before Battlefield 6’s launch and finished 12 days before Season 1 began.
- Content: Xbox itemized three Black Ops 6 modes, more than 40 Multiplayer maps, and six Round-Based Zombies maps. EA described its later Battlefield 6 trial as three playlists on three maps.
- Eligibility and access: Xbox identified Game Pass members and pointed to Free Play Days and its store. EA directed Battlefield 6 trial players to REDSEC. These are the terms stated in the respective announcements, not evidence that eligibility was identical.
- Audience results: The announcements reviewed do not provide comparable player counts, conversions, or trial-performance figures. They therefore cannot establish which offer attracted more players or whether one affected the other.
Battlefield Studios’ October 2025 announcement cited 100 million players and 5 billion hours played for the Battlefield franchise overall. Those cumulative franchise figures are not results for Battlefield 6’s trial or a comparison with Black Ops 6. Separately, EA’s November announcement called Battlefield 6 the “Best Selling Shooter of 2025” and cited Circana’s U.S. year-to-date top-games data for January 5–November 1, 2025; the cited passage did not give a specific rank. Neither statement measures the relative performance of these trials.

What players could buy after the offers ended
For Black Ops 6, Xbox’s official listing called the game the Xbox Cross-Gen Bundle. The event announcement said players could purchase the game to continue after the trial. Because the free-play window has passed, check the current edition, format, platform compatibility, and availability on the store before buying.
EA’s launch-era announcement listed Battlefield 6 Standard and Phantom editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It described Phantom as including the full-game download and additional digital content. Its historical U.S. prices—$69.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Phantom—were launch-era figures, not confirmed current prices. EA’s Battlefield 6 editions page is the place to check current offerings.
