Dexerto reported that Team Deathmatch, Control, Search & Destroy, and Gunfight received higher XP and Weapon XP rates after awarding less XP than expected. The report gave no percentage increases, so it does not establish which mode levels you fastest or how much quicker you will progress.
What the October 26, 2024 update changed
Dexerto’s October 26, 2024 patch report lists increased XP and Weapon XP rates for four modes:
- Team Deathmatch
- Control
- Search & Destroy
- Gunfight
The report says these modes had been awarding less XP than expected. It also says the patch corrected incorrect player progression levels shown on the Scoreboard and in main menus. Those display fixes addressed how a level appeared; they were not described as changes to every progression system.
The mode list and change details come from Dexerto’s reporting; an official October 26 patch-notes page was not found. The report gives no XP percentages or before-and-after measurements, so there is no supported basis for ranking the four modes by leveling speed or predicting an individual player’s gain. It also does not establish whether these rates remain unchanged in October 2026. Check current in-game notes for later changes.

How to earn XP in Black Ops 6
Activision’s Black Ops 6 leveling guide recommends playing Multiplayer or Zombies, completing Daily Challenges and Calling Card Challenges, and earning Mastery Badges. The guide also points to the Progression tile, where you can view unlocks and the XP required for the next level.
Activision’s progression overview puts the core advice plainly: “Earn XP by performing well, playing the Objective, earning Medals, and completing Challenges.” In practice, choose the mode you enjoy, play its objectives, and work on challenges that fit how you play; the available sources do not show that one of the four adjusted modes is universally the fastest.

What happens at Level 55: Prestige
At Level 55, you can choose to enter Prestige. Activision says Prestige resets you to Level 1 and relocks most level unlocks. Listed exceptions include Base Operators, Emotes, Zombies GobbleGums, and items you permanently unlocked. Prestige is optional, and it is not a way to keep ordinary level unlocks while restarting progression.

The “today” in the original headline is stale: the relevant report is dated October 26, 2024. Activision’s Season 06 notes are dated October 8, 2025 and cover later seasonal content; they do not make the 2024 XP change a current update. The sources here do not establish the October 2026 state of each mode’s XP rates.
