Blaziken and Flamethrower: Which Pokémon Games Let It Learn the Move?

Yes—Blaziken can learn Flamethrower, but the answer depends on the Pokémon game and the learning method available there. In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Flamethrower is listed among Blaziken’s reminder moves, provided the species is available in your version. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, it appears in Blaziken’s level-up learnset. Older games use different learnsets and teaching items, so a method that works in one generation cannot be assumed to work in another.

The direct answer

Blaziken does learn Flamethrower in some core-series Pokémon games. The most important distinction is which game you are playing:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Flamethrower is listed as a move Blaziken can remember.
  • In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Flamethrower is listed as a level-up move.
  • The Generation III Ruby and Sapphire level-up list cited for Blaziken includes Ember and Fire Punch at level 1, but not Flamethrower.
  • The cited Generation VII Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon level-up page does not display Flamethrower. That omission alone does not prove that every other teaching method or every version in that generation excludes it.

Therefore, “Does Blaziken learn Flamethrower?” has a qualified answer: yes, depending on the game and the route used to teach the move.

Scarlet and Violet: use the move reminder

For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the current Blaziken learnset lists Flamethrower under reminder moves. The same listing identifies Blaziken as available in these games from Version 3.0.0 onward. Check your game’s version and how you obtained Blaziken before trying to teach the move; availability in a particular save is separate from the species’ learnset.

General reminder procedure

The reminder route does not require you to assume that Blaziken learned Flamethrower at a particular level. Use the Pokémon’s summary and its move-management screen:

  1. Place Blaziken in your party, then open the party menu.
  2. Choose Blaziken and open Check Summary.
  3. Go to the screen that displays the Pokémon’s current moves and the option to change or manage them.
  4. Select the option to remember a move, then look for Flamethrower in the available list.
  5. Confirm the replacement if you want Flamethrower to occupy one of Blaziken’s four move slots.

Menu wording and button prompts can vary with the game version and language settings. If Flamethrower is not shown, first confirm that you are using the Scarlet or Violet learnset, that your Blaziken is eligible in your version, and that you are in the move-reminder interface rather than the ordinary move-replacement screen.

What the Scarlet and Violet listing does not establish

A reminder listing tells you that the move can be selected through the reminder system. It does not, by itself, establish that Flamethrower is a TM you can apply to every Blaziken, that it is learned automatically at a specific level, or that the same route exists in another generation. Treat those as separate questions.

How other generations differ

Blaziken’s learnset changed over time. The following comparison uses the cited generation-specific lists and separates a confirmed route from an omission or an unverified method.

Game or generation What the cited information shows Learning method shown How to interpret it
Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire (Generation III) The level-up list shows Ember and Fire Punch at level 1, but not Flamethrower. Not shown by level-up in the cited list. This does not rule out every possible teaching method in every Generation III title.
Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (Generation VII) Flamethrower is not displayed among the cited level-up moves. No level-up route shown on that page. Do not infer that all move-teaching methods or all versions in the generation are excluded.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield (Generation VIII) Flamethrower appears in Blaziken’s level-up list. Level-up move. This is a confirmed route for those games, distinct from Scarlet and Violet’s reminder listing.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Flamethrower appears among Blaziken’s reminder moves. Move reminder. The learnset listing covers Blaziken available from Version 3.0.0 onward.

Why a move can appear in one game but not another

Learnsets are version-specific

Each generation can assign a move to a different category: level-up, TM, TR, tutor, egg move, or reminder move. A Pokémon’s species identity does not guarantee that its complete move list remains unchanged across games. Blaziken’s Generation VIII level-up entry and its Scarlet and Violet reminder entry are examples of the same move being placed in different categories.

  • Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
  • Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.

A missing level-up entry is not a universal “no”

If a database page omits Flamethrower from a level-up list, the safe conclusion is only that the cited level-up route does not show the move. It is not automatically evidence about TMs, TRs, tutors, transfer rules or another game in the same generation. This distinction matters for both the Generation III and Generation VII examples.

Availability and learnability are separate

Even when a learnset says that Blaziken can learn Flamethrower, you still need a Blaziken that can be used in the game and version you own. The Scarlet and Violet listing places the species’ availability at Version 3.0.0 onward. That is an availability qualification, not a claim that every earlier save or every release contains Blaziken.

Flamethrower’s mechanics and item history

Flamethrower is a Fire-type move introduced in Generation I. Its displayed teaching item changed as the games changed:

The move’s power was reduced from 95 to 90 beginning in Generation VI. That historical change explains why an older guide may show a different power value from the 90 listed for Scarlet and Violet. Accuracy and PP can also be presented differently by game, so use the data for the title you are actually playing.

Choosing the right answer for your game

If you are playing Scarlet or Violet

Check whether your version supports Blaziken from Version 3.0.0 onward, then use the Pokémon summary’s move-reminder function. Look for Flamethrower in the reminder list rather than assuming it will appear as a level-up notification or as a universally compatible TM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are playing Sword or Shield

Consult Blaziken’s Sword and Shield level-up learnset. The cited list includes Flamethrower as a level-up move, so the route is different from the reminder listing used for Scarlet and Violet.

If you are playing Ruby or Sapphire

Do not expect Flamethrower to appear in the cited level-up list: that list shows Ember and Fire Punch at level 1 instead. The available evidence here does not establish every alternative teaching route for every Generation III release, so avoid treating the level-up omission as a complete game-wide verdict.

If you are playing a Generation VII title

The cited Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon page does not display Flamethrower among the level-up moves. Because that is a level-up observation, it should not be expanded into a claim about every TM, tutor or other method without a title-specific learnset check.

Common mistakes when checking Blaziken’s moves

  • Using the wrong generation’s learnset: a Sword and Shield level-up entry cannot be applied automatically to Scarlet and Violet.
  • Confusing reminder moves with level-up moves: a move may be available through the reminder interface without appearing as a new level-up event.
  • Assuming the item number is permanent: Flamethrower has been TM35, TM37, TR02 and TM125 in different games.
  • Reading an omission as proof of impossibility: a page that lacks Flamethrower in one category may not document every other category.
  • Ignoring version availability: a listed learnset does not guarantee that Blaziken can be obtained in every version or save file.

What can be stated with confidence

The strongest game-specific conclusions are straightforward. Scarlet and Violet list Flamethrower as a reminder move for Blaziken and identify the species as available from Version 3.0.0 onward. Sword and Shield list it as a level-up move. The cited Ruby and Sapphire level-up list does not include it, while the cited Generation VII page does not display it among level-up moves. Those facts support a title-specific answer, not one universal learnset for every Pokémon game.

For a precise instruction, always identify the game first. Once the title is known, check the corresponding learnset category—reminder, level-up, TM, TR or another method—and use that game’s move data and item numbering.
