First, check that you can select Blightcaller
Blightcaller is a DLC class included with Shattering Spectreglass, which is available on its own or through the Season Pass. A copy of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is also required, according to 2K’s Blightcaller class guide and its DLC announcement.

You can start a new character as Blightcaller. If you already have a character, 2K’s launch announcement says you can add it as a secondary class at a Quick-Change Station after completing the campaign: Shattering Spectreglass launch details.
What to build around as you level
Favor poison without treating it as your only option
2K describes Blightcaller as a class that synergizes with elemental damage broadly and specializes in poison. That makes poison a natural focus for a first character, while leaving room to use other elemental damage when your weapons or preferred play style point that way. The class description does not establish that poison is the only effective route.

Use companions for sustained pressure
Blightcaller’s Spirit Swarm and Bog Totem are described by 2K as damage-over-time companions. They fit a starter approach that keeps pressure on enemies while you continue attacking and repositioning. The official guide does not identify a mandatory companion skill rank or prove that one is the stronger leveling choice.
Make Ward recovery part of your survival plan
2K notes that Blightcallers can recharge their Ward by killing foes. Treat that as useful class sustain while clearing groups, rather than assuming it removes the need to manage incoming damage. No specific Ward-focused skill allocation is established in the official class overview.

Choosing an action skill
Plaguestorm is the clearest area-damage option in the class description: it creates a miasmatic storm that attacks enemies caught within it with poison clouds and elemental bolts. 2K also lists a totem-based action-skill option, but its guide does not give a leveling preference between the two. Choose based on whether the storm’s area pressure or the totem approach better suits your encounters and equipment.

- For broader elemental coverage: keep using other elemental damage when it suits your available weapons; poison is a specialty, not a stated restriction.
- For added staying power: take advantage of Ward recovery through kills and pay attention to how well you survive each fight.
- For companion support: use Spirit Swarm or Bog Totem to add ongoing pressure while you attack.
- For area burst: consider Plaguestorm when you want to damage groups caught in its area.
