Bloodborne has an official PS4 release, not a native PC version. Playing the original game on PC currently means using unofficial community software, such as a game-specific Linux project or a PS4 emulator. Those methods add options for resolution and frame rate, but they require more setup and do not offer the same established reliability or feature guarantees as the supported console release.
Is Bloodborne on PC?
No official PC port is documented in the available release information. PlayStation lists Bloodborne as a PS4 game, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and released March 24, 2015. PlayStation’s launch announcement said it was available physically and through the PlayStation Store, exclusively for PS4.

PC access is unofficial: community software runs the original PS4 game rather than providing a Sony- or FromSoftware-released PC edition. A 2026 PC Gamer report quoting former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida said there had been no PC release or PS5 version at the time of his remarks. Yoshida expressed hope that one might arrive, while making clear there was no confirmed plan: “Maybe they’ll come out in the future. Maybe they won’t.”

How does PC performance compare with PS4?
PC projects can expose settings that are not presented as options in the PS4 Store listing, but that flexibility does not establish that every PC setup is faster or smoother. Results depend on the project, its version, configuration, game version, and hardware. There is no controlled, current benchmark in the cited sources comparing representative PC systems with PS4 in the same scenes.

The bbport project README describes 30, 60, and 90 FPS modes, output resolutions up to 2160p, FSR upscaling, and toggles for effects including motion blur, depth of field, ambient occlusion, and antialiasing. It reports roughly 90 FPS at 4K with FSR 4 Balanced and roughly 150 FPS at 1440p with FSR 4 Quality on an RX 7800 XT. These are the project’s own results on its named hardware, not independent or typical performance figures; they should not be transferred to other builds or PCs.
The same README says testing was limited to the author’s RX 7800 XT PC and a Steam Deck, warns of possible crashes, and notes NVIDIA memory-mapping issues with its experimental memory model. A separate Windows fork describes itself as work in progress and not yet playable on Windows, directing users to the upstream Linux build. Its use of “port” refers to a build for this one game, not a rewrite of the game’s source code.

For historical context, a November 2025 PC Gamer report on shadPS4 version 0.12.6 described performance gains in its tested setup, alongside setup complexity and instability; it also discussed mods used for stability and third-party Steam Deck results. That earlier report concerns a different project and time, so it is not a benchmark for current bbport performance.
Which version is easier to set up and trust?
PS4: the supported route
The official release avoids the extra steps and compatibility variables of community PC software. The Store listing says the PS4 game is playable on PS5, while warning that some PS4 features may be absent. That is backward compatibility, not a dedicated PS5 edition or remaster.

PC: more configuration, less certainty
bbport says it runs the original PS4 executable on Linux x86-64 using a game-specific runtime and a shadPS4-derived Vulkan renderer. It does not include game files: the README asks users to supply their own decrypted dump of Bloodborne version 1.09. The project’s limited testing and crash and hardware caveats mean compatibility can vary. The Windows fork’s own status statement means it should not be treated as a playable Windows alternative.

On PS4, the Store lists one-player support, optional online play, support for up to five online players with PlayStation Plus, Remote Play, and DUALSHOCK 4 vibration. It also says online features may be terminated at any time. Its listing does not provide a complete button map, so it does not support claims about a specific keyboard-and-mouse layout.

For PC, the sources cited here do not establish a universal button mapping, consistent online functionality, or parity for saves and downloadable content. Those details depend on the particular community method and build; do not assume they match PS4. A controller may be a familiar choice for a game designed for PlayStation, but its exact support and configuration should be checked against the build being used.
The world and core content belong to Bloodborne itself, not a PC enhancement. The official listing describes combat, online play, Chalice Dungeons, and The Old Hunters add-on. PlayStation’s launch post quotes director Hidetaka Miyazaki describing Yharnam and its “scourge of the beast.” The Store identifies The Old Hunters as a PS4 add-on; the available PC project descriptions do not establish that DLC licensing or compatibility works identically on PC.

Which should you choose?
- Choose PS4 if you want the official, supported release and the clearest basis for the listed controller and online features.
- Consider a community PC method if you specifically want its configurable resolution, upscaling, graphics options, or frame-rate modes, and are prepared for setup, hardware-dependent results, and possible instability.
- Do not treat the Windows fork as a ready-to-play option: its README says it is not yet playable on Windows.
These are different ways of accessing the original PS4 game, not equivalent official editions. The PS4 version is the straightforward choice; PC is an experimental community route for people willing to work around its current requirements and limitations.
