What the Steam Machine’s built-in light bar supports
Valve describes a configurable RGB light bar with 17 LEDs and lists SteamOS 3 as the Steam Machine’s operating system on its product page. Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes Steam Machine as a SteamOS gaming computer, but does not provide instructions for audio-reactive lighting.
Use the device’s own lighting customization for the colors and system-indication behavior Valve documents. The available official sources do not establish an audio-reactive mode, nor do they specify menu labels or steps for enabling one.
What is known about a Decky audio-sync plugin
A third-party guide reports that Decky plugin GabeCubeAura version 1.3.2 adds audio sync to the built-in bar. The guide could not be verified, and no primary project page, release notes, installation instructions, or SteamOS compatibility information was established. Treat this as an unconfirmed community lead, not a verified setup method.

Before following any installation advice, confirm the current plugin’s source and check its stated support for your SteamOS version, its Decky requirements, and how it captures audio. Without those details, it is not possible to say whether it works, which audio it can react to, or whether it can control the Steam Machine’s integrated LEDs. Do not rely on unverified commands or installation steps.
Would a separate RGB lighting app work?
Skydimo advertises music-rhythm visualization for supported RGB hardware, but its Steam listing specifies Windows 10/11 system requirements. That listing does not establish SteamOS support or control of the Steam Machine’s built-in light bar. It therefore is not a confirmed SteamOS alternative; any external strip or controller would be a separate ambient-lighting setup, not a documented way to drive the integrated LEDs.

For any future option, check four things before installing or buying hardware: whether it supports SteamOS, whether it samples game playback or ambient sound, which LEDs it can control, and whether it continues working after SteamOS updates.
