There is no single build that is best on every difficult Bloons TD 6 map. The most reliable approach is to match your defense to the track, stabilize the opening, cover different bloon threats, and use guides to learn tricky sections—not to copy a build without understanding it.
Why difficult maps need adaptable strategies
Hard CHIMPS runs can hinge on exact tower placement and a strong opening. A guide published January 14, 2026, identifies Ouch, Quad, Ravine, Bloody Puddles, and Workshop as especially demanding CHIMPS maps, citing difficult openings, strict placements, and micro. That is the guide’s characterization, not an official ranking: the guide.
In-game map difficulty is a useful starting point, but it does not perfectly predict how hard a map will feel to every player. The Bloons Wiki notes that official ratings can differ from player consensus; “True Expert” is a community-created label without a settled definition: Bloons Wiki.
1. Read the map before choosing towers
Study the track and placement spaces before settling on a build. Look for intersections, loops, split routes, and positions from which a tower can attack bloons on more than one stretch. A placement that covers extra track can matter more than choosing a generally strong tower, especially when space is limited.

- Check whether the route splits and whether your defense can cover every path.
- Look for positions that let a tower attack the same bloons for longer or reach multiple track segments.
- Note restrictions on placement and the range available from viable spots before committing to a plan.
Hard CHIMPS maps are described as requiring precise placement and optimized starts, which is why a generic build may fail even if its towers seem powerful: the map guide.
2. Make the opening reliable before saving for later
A late-game carry cannot rescue a run that loses lives or ends in the opening rounds. First build enough early coverage to handle the rounds immediately ahead; only then save toward a more expensive tower or upgrade. If a map has a restrictive opening, a walkthrough can show a workable sequence. Pay attention to why its placements and upgrade timing work so you can make informed changes later.
One player describes using guides for early rounds of Expert CHIMPS, then developing the rest of the run independently: player discussion. That is a practical middle ground between guessing at a difficult start and following a full run without learning from it.
3. Cover different kinds of threats
Do not assume that one damage plan will handle every round. Think separately about dense groups of ordinary bloons, tougher bloons, and MOAB-class threats, then check that your chosen towers and upgrades can deal with the threats the mode and rounds will present.
- Dense groups: Make sure the defense can keep up when many bloons arrive together.
- Tougher bloons: Check that you have enough damage or other useful effects for bloons that take more hits.
- MOAB-class bloons: Include a plan for these larger threats rather than assuming general-purpose damage is sufficient.

4. Choose support and synergy for the map
Evaluate a hero, buffs, debuffs, or crowd control by how they complement the damage plan and fit the map’s layout. On split or constrained tracks, range and placement can affect whether support reaches the towers that need it. Pick combinations that work together in the positions you can actually use instead of relying on a universal hero ranking.
Player discussion points to synergy and map-specific tower selection as useful considerations, but it does not establish a single best hero: player discussion.
5. Learn from walkthroughs, then adapt
Video walkthroughs can be useful for studying difficult openings, placements, and round-by-round decisions. Guides are available across modes from Easy through CHIMPS, including Half Cash, and are used by players pursuing Black Borders: walkthrough collection. A player also describes using guides to get through early Expert CHIMPS rounds before taking over the rest of the run: player discussion.

- Identify the immediate problem. Is the run struggling with an opening leak, a crowded wave, tougher bloons, or a MOAB-class threat?
