bluedelay vst.dll Is Missing: Restore the BlueLine Plug-in

By VGSources Team 11 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

bluedelay vst.dll is a legacy audio plug-in file from the BlueLine suite, not a Windows system component. The safest fix is to restore the original BlueLine installation or a trusted backup, place the file in the VST folder used by your DAW, and rescan that folder.

What this file actually does

bluedelay vst.dll is associated with BlueDelay, a delay effect in the legacy BlueLine suite from digilogue digital recording hard & software. The suite contained several DirectX and VST effects, including delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, compressor, gate, equalizer, filter, reverb and multitap effects.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The .dll filename is consistent with a Windows VST2 plug-in. Your digital audio workstation, or DAW, loads the plug-in from a configured VST directory. Windows does not normally load this file as part of the operating system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters. Do not copy bluedelay vst.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64, and do not treat it like a missing Windows runtime. The correct location is the VST2 plug-in folder scanned by the host that uses BlueDelay.

The host could be any DAW or VST-compatible application that previously loaded BlueDelay. No specific application can be identified from the filename alone.

Fix 1: Restore BlueLine from a trusted source

This is the most likely and most reliable solution because bluedelay vst.dll belongs to the BlueLine application package.

The original Digilogue download address is referenced by historical material, but a currently available official Digilogue download could not be confirmed. Use an original installer you already possess, a known-good backup, or an installation source supplied directly by the developer. Do not substitute an isolated DLL from an unknown source.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check whether BlueLine is still installed

  1. Press Windows and type Installed apps.
  2. Open Installed apps.
  3. Search for BlueLine, BlueDelay, or digilogue.
  4. If an entry appears, select its three-dot menu.
  5. Choose Uninstall only if you have the original installer or a confirmed backup ready. Older plug-ins often do not provide a useful modern repair button.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Run the original BlueLine installer.
  8. If the installer asks for a destination, choose the VST2 folder used by your DAW. If you are unsure, install to the location used by the original setup rather than creating several new copies.
  9. Complete the installation and restart the DAW.

If the installer provides separate DirectX and VST choices, select the VST option for use in a modern plug-in list. DirectX support varies between hosts and should not be assumed.

Confirm that the file was restored

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Search the folders you use for audio plug-ins for bluedelay vst.dll.
  3. Right-click the result and choose Show more options if needed.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Check the Location field.
  6. Confirm that the folder is a VST plug-in directory, not a Windows system directory.
  7. Do not rely on catalogue-reported version, size, or hash details as proof of authenticity. Those details are not verified by the original vendor.

If the file is present in the correct folder, continue with the DAW rescan below.

If you only have a backup copy

Manual copying is acceptable only when the backup came from your own known-good BlueLine installation or a verified installer.

  1. Copy the complete BlueLine plug-in set if the backup contains it, rather than copying an unexplained DLL by itself.
  2. Paste it into the VST2 folder that your DAW scans.
  3. Do not overwrite a newer, verified installation without first preserving the existing files.
  4. Run the DAW’s full plug-in rescan.
  5. Check whether BlueDelay appears and opens.

If the backup file triggers a security warning, stop and verify its provenance before allowing it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine

An old plug-in can be quarantined during a scan even when the original problem is simply that the DAW cannot load it. Do not restore the file automatically. First confirm that it came from your original BlueLine installer or a trusted backup.

Inspect Protection history

  1. Open Start and select Settings.
  2. Choose Privacy & security.
  3. Select Windows Security.
  4. Open Virus & threat protection.
  5. Under Current threats, select Protection history.
  6. Look for an event involving bluedelay vst.dll, BlueLine, or the folder where your plug-ins are stored.
  7. Open the event and read the detection name, file path, and action taken.
  8. If the path is unexpected, the detection is severe, or you cannot verify the file’s source, leave it quarantined.
  9. If the file came from your original installer and you have independently checked that installer, use the available restore or allow action only after reviewing Microsoft’s warning about allowing files that may be unsafe.

After restoration, place the file in the intended VST folder if Defender restored it elsewhere. Then rescan the folder in your DAW.

If Defender repeatedly removes the file, do not keep restoring it blindly. Obtain a clean, legitimate BlueLine installer or retire the obsolete plug-in.

Fix 3: Correct the DAW’s VST2 folder and rescan

A reinstall can appear unsuccessful when the DAW is scanning a different directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Find the file’s actual folder

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Search for bluedelay vst.dll.
  3. Right-click the result and choose Open file location.
  4. Copy or note the folder path shown in the address bar.
  5. Confirm that the file is not inside System32, SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or an unrelated application directory.

Add the folder to the DAW

Every host uses different menus, but the relevant setting is usually named Plug-in folders, VST paths, VST2 locations, or Plug-in manager.

  1. Open the DAW.
  2. Open its Preferences, Settings, or Options window.
  3. Find the plug-in or VST section.
  4. Add the folder containing bluedelay vst.dll to the VST2 search paths.
  5. Save the setting.
  6. Choose Rescan, Rescan plug-ins, Scan all, or an equivalent command.
  7. If available, choose a full rescan rather than a quick scan.
  8. Close and reopen the DAW.
  9. Insert BlueDelay on an audio track or open the host’s plug-in browser and search for BlueDelay.

A successful result is the plug-in appearing in the host’s VST effects list and opening without a missing-file message.

If the DAW still does not list it

The host may have cached a previous failed scan.

  1. Open the DAW’s plug-in manager.
  2. Look for Reset, Clear failed plug-ins, Remove blacklist, or Rescan all.
  3. Clear the failed entry for BlueDelay.
  4. Run a complete rescan.
  5. Restart the DAW.

Do not install several copies into multiple folders just to make the host find one. That can create duplicate entries and make future troubleshooting harder.

Fix 4: Check architecture and plug-in age

The architecture of BlueLine is not authoritatively verified. Do not assume that the file is 32-bit or 64-bit based only on its age or filename.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A legacy plug-in may be rejected because:

  • The DAW is 64-bit only and the plug-in is 32-bit.
  • The host and plug-in architectures do not match.
  • The plug-in format is too old for the host.
  • A compatibility bridge is required but missing.
  • The host blocks the plug-in after a failed scan.

Check your DAW’s documentation or About window for its architecture. If the host supports only 64-bit VST plug-ins and BlueDelay is a 32-bit binary, use a compatible host or a reputable compatibility bridge that supports your setup. If the plug-in is not supported, replacing it with a maintained delay effect may be safer than forcing it to load.

If the host reports a specific dependency rather than an architecture problem, continue to the runtime section.

Fix 5: Repair a named Microsoft runtime dependency

A Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable will not recreate bluedelay vst.dll. It is relevant only when the error also names a dependency such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll.

Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Read the exact error message shown by the DAW.
  2. If it names an MSVCP or VCRUNTIME file, open Microsoft’s redistributable page.
  3. Download the package architecture that matches the application, not merely the operating system.
  4. For a 32-bit DAW on 64-bit Windows, the x86 package may be required.
  5. Run the downloaded installer.
  6. Choose Repair if it is already installed, or install it if it is absent.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Rescan the VST2 folder in the DAW.

Multiple Visual C++ Redistributables can coexist. Do not remove older packages at random, because another application may depend on them.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when broader symptoms exist

Because bluedelay vst.dll is a third-party plug-in, Windows component repair is unlikely to restore it. Use this step when several unrelated applications report damaged or missing Windows files, or when Windows itself is behaving incorrectly.

Run DISM

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Wait for the operation to finish.
  3. Restart Windows if DISM reports that a restart is required.

Run System File Checker

Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:

sfc /scannow

Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows, then test the DAW again.

If DISM or SFC reports that it could not repair files, repeat the check after restarting and review the exact result. Do not expect these commands to download or replace the BlueLine plug-in itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are tired of hunting through Windows versions and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can show a free scan of reported problems; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling BlueLine remains the definitive fix for this application file.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change

System Restore can help if BlueDelay worked previously and disappeared after a recent installation, update, or system change. It will not reliably recreate a plug-in that was never included in a restore point.

Driver checks: only for wider audio problems

A graphics or audio driver update is not a normal fix for a missing VST DLL. Consider drivers only if the DAW also crashes, audio devices disappear, playback fails, or several plug-ins show graphical or audio-device problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check Device Manager

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  4. Right-click the audio device used by the DAW.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Open the Driver tab.
  7. Review the provider, date, and status.
  8. Use Update Driver only when you have a trusted driver source or Windows has a suitable update.
  9. Restart Windows and test the DAW.

Do not uninstall a working audio driver merely because BlueDelay is missing. If the driver update introduces a new problem, return to the same Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver when available.

If identifying the correct audio, chipset, or interface driver requires hunting through hardware models and guessing which of several installed drivers is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can show a free scan of driver issues; installation of updates is handled by the full version, but it is not a substitute for restoring BlueLine.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help

VST plug-ins are normally discovered and loaded by the DAW. They are not generally COM or ActiveX servers that must be registered in the Windows registry.

Do not use these commands as a routine fix:

regsvr32 "bluedelay vst.dll"
regsvr32 /i "bluedelay vst.dll"

Microsoft’s Regsvr32 guidance applies to DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A VST plug-in may not expose that function. An error about a missing entry point confirms that registration is not the correct repair path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Avoid isolated DLL downloads

Downloading bluedelay vst.dll from a random DLL download website is risky because the file may contain malware, be the wrong version, use the wrong architecture, or omit the other files BlueLine needs. Copying it into a Windows system folder often fails to fix the DAW because the host still scans a different VST directory.

Use these sources instead:

  • The original BlueLine installer from a legitimate Digilogue source, when available.
  • A known-good backup from your own system.
  • A verified installer supplied by the original developer.
  • Microsoft’s official redistributable page when the exact error names a Microsoft runtime dependency.

If no legitimate BlueLine installer or backup exists, the safest outcome may be to replace the obsolete effect with a maintained delay plug-in.

FAQ

Is bluedelay vst.dll a Windows file?

No. It is a third-party BlueLine plug-in file from digilogue digital recording hard & software. It does not belong in System32 or SysWOW64.

Where should bluedelay vst.dll be located?

It should be in the VST2 plug-in directory scanned by your DAW. The correct path depends on the host and the original BlueLine installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I copy the file into System32?

No. System32 and SysWOW64 are Windows system directories, not general-purpose plug-in folders. Copying the file there can create confusion and does not configure the DAW to load it.

Does the file need to be registered?

Normally no. Configure the DAW’s VST2 path and rescan it instead.

Is BlueLine 32-bit or 64-bit?

No authoritative public source confirms the architecture. Check the DAW’s scan report and documentation rather than guessing.

Why is the DLL present but still rejected?

The host may be incompatible with the plug-in’s architecture or age, may lack a dependency, or may have cached a previous failed scan. Clear the failed plug-in cache and run a full rescan.

Will repairing Visual C++ fix the missing file?

Only if the error also identifies a missing Visual C++ dependency. It will not recreate bluedelay vst.dll.

What information should I record if the problem continues?

Record the DAW name and version, Windows version, exact error text, plug-in folder, host architecture, and any antivirus detection name. Those details distinguish a missing file from a scan, architecture, or dependency failure.
