- Is it a DAW, VST host, audio editor, or an old installer?
- Does the error appear when Windows starts, when the host scans plug-ins, or when opening an older project?
- Is the host 32-bit or 64-bit?
- Was BlueLine recently uninstalled, moved, cleaned up, or quarantined?
- Does the file exist in the VST folder the host actually scans?
- Does the host report a missing file, or does it find the file and reject it?
bluemultitap vst.dll is the plug-in binary called BlueLine VST PlugIn. It belongs to Digilogue’s BlueLine suite and is associated with BlueMultitap, an older multi-tap delay effect. It is not a Windows component.

The safest repair is to recover or reinstall the complete BlueLine package, place it in the VST folder used by the host, and rescan that folder. Do not begin by downloading an isolated DLL or copying it into System32.

BlueLine was an older suite of Windows DirectX and VST audio effects. Its plug-ins included BlueMultitap along with effects such as delay, chorus, compression, filtering, gating, equalization, phasing, and reverb.

That explains why the error may appear in an audio program rather than during normal Windows startup. A project may contain a reference to BlueMultitap even though the plug-in has since been removed from the computer.
The file is not supplied by:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Microsoft Visual C++
- DirectX as a Windows repair component
- .NET
- A graphics, audio, or motherboard driver
The original Digilogue distribution is difficult to verify today, and no current official Digilogue download was confirmed for this guide. Use an original installer, a backup from a computer where BlueLine was installed, or a trusted licensed archive whose provenance can be established.
Fix 1: Restore BlueLine and rescan the correct VST folder
This is the most likely solution when the file is genuinely missing.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Find the host application
Look at the title bar or the program that shows the error. The host may be a DAW, a standalone VST utility, an audio editor, or an older project launcher.
If the message appears while opening a project, note the project’s original host. Installing the plug-in into a different audio application will not repair the original project.
Recover the complete installer
Search these locations for an original BlueLine installer or backup:
- Open File Explorer.
- Check your Downloads folder, external backup drives, old software archives, and folders used for audio installers.
- Search for
BlueLine,BlueMultitap, or an installer file associated with Digilogue. - If the original computer still works, copy the installer and any license documentation rather than copying only the DLL.
Avoid relying on a loose DLL copied from an unknown source. The plug-in may require companion files, presets, or a particular installer layout.
Install or restore BlueLine
If you have the installer:
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- When it asks for a VST destination, record the exact folder.
- If the installer offers separate DirectX and VST components, select the VST component required by your host.
- Finish the installation without moving individual files afterward.
If you have a known-good backup rather than an installer, copy the complete BlueLine plug-in installation to a dedicated VST folder, such as the folder already used by your audio software. Do not place it in a Windows system directory.
Add the folder to the host
The wording varies by program, but the controls are usually under Preferences, Options, Settings, or Plug-in Manager.

- Open the audio host.
- Open its plug-in or VST settings.
- Find VST, VST2, Plug-in locations, or Plug-in folders.
- Add the folder containing the restored BlueLine files.
- Save the setting.
- Choose Rescan, Scan for new plug-ins, or Verify plug-ins.
- If the host has a failed-plugin blacklist, choose Reset, Clear, or Rescan failed plug-ins.
- Close and reopen the host.
Success means BlueMultitap appears in the host’s effects list and the project opens without the missing-file message. If the host still rejects it, continue with the architecture check rather than copying the DLL elsewhere.
Fix 2: Check whether the host is scanning the file
A file can be present and still appear missing when the host does not scan its folder.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the folder where BlueLine was installed.
- Confirm that the file is present.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Check the General and Details tabs for the file name and available product information.
- Return to the host’s plug-in settings.
- Compare its configured VST folders with the actual location.
- Add the correct folder and run a full rescan.
Some hosts scan only VST2 folders selected by the user. A folder used by one DAW may not be scanned by another. Copying the file into the host’s program folder does not automatically make it a plug-in.
If the host reports that the file exists but cannot load, record the scan log. That points to a compatibility or dependency problem rather than a simple missing-file problem.
Fix 3: Match the plug-in and host architecture
The available historical information does not authoritatively confirm whether every BlueLine release was 32-bit only or whether later builds included 64-bit versions. Because BlueLine is an older plug-in suite, a 32-bit build is plausible and must be checked from the installer or file properties.
A 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL. The Windows folder you choose does not change this rule.

Look in the host’s About window, installer name, or documentation for 32-bit, 64-bit, x86, or x64.
You can also:
- Open the host.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select the Details tab.
- Locate the host process.
- Check whether the program identifies itself as 32-bit where that information is available.
Apply the correct repair
- A 32-bit host may be required for an older 32-bit BlueLine plug-in.
- A 64-bit-only host may need its supported plug-in bridge, if the host provides one.
- If the host supports only modern plug-in formats, BlueMultitap may not be usable in that application.
- Do not assume that placing a 32-bit DLL in
C:WindowsSysWOW64makes it available to a 64-bit DAW.
If the plug-in works in a compatible older host but not in the current one, the file is probably not missing. The host simply cannot load that architecture or plug-in format.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
An older plug-in may be quarantined by security software. Do not restore it unless you know where it came from.

- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving BlueLine or the DLL.
- Open the event and review its path and detection details.
- Choose Restore or Allow on device only if the file came from a legitimate BlueLine installer or trusted backup.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can expose the device if the file is genuinely malicious. Do not disable antivirus protection merely to install an unidentified DLL.
After restoring a trusted file, rescan the VST folder in the host. If security software immediately removes it again, preserve the detection details and obtain a clean copy of the complete installer instead of repeatedly restoring the same file.
Fix 5: Reinstall the complete package for a damaged plug-in
The file may exist but still fail with messages such as:
bluemultitap vst.dll was not foundCannot find bluemultitap vst.dllbluemultitap vst.dll error loading- An access violation
- A missing procedure entry point
- A generic message saying the program cannot start
These catalogue-style error examples are not confirmed messages from one specific BlueLine host. Their meaning depends on where they appear.
A file that exists but fails during a host scan may be corrupt, incomplete, the wrong architecture, or missing a companion dependency.
Repair it as follows:
- Close every DAW and audio application.
- Back up the existing BlueLine folder.
- Uninstall BlueLine if it appears under Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as administrator.
- Install the complete package to a known VST folder.
- Open the host and rescan that folder.
- Check the host’s scan log if loading still fails.
If BlueLine is not listed among installed applications, do not delete unrelated VST folders. Restore the original package over the existing installation or use a known-good backup.
Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 for this plug-in
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A normal VST plug-in is discovered by the audio host and does not become usable through Windows DLL registration.
Commands such as these are therefore not a supported BlueMultitap repair:
regsvr32 "bluemultitap vst.dll"
regsvr32 /i "bluemultitap vst.dll"
They may return an error saying that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found. That does not prove that the file is missing.

Manual copying is appropriate only when recovering the exact file from a trusted BlueLine installer or backup and placing it in the VST folder expected by the host.
Fix 7: Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64 are not general-purpose plug-in folders. Putting a VST DLL there can create confusion and does not solve host compatibility.
Microsoft’s Windows file-system rules distinguish 32-bit and 64-bit application environments, but they do not turn a plug-in into a system component. The host process determines whether the DLL can load.
Do not install isolated copies into both folders. Keep BlueLine in the application’s VST location and maintain one known-good backup.
Fix 8: Repair Windows components only if Windows itself is failing
SFC and DISM will not normally recreate bluemultitap vst.dll, because it is a third-party audio plug-in. They are reasonable only when Windows has broader corruption, such as built-in applications failing, system files reporting errors, or updates malfunctioning.
First run DISM:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the audio host and rescan the VST folder.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands complete successfully but BlueMultitap remains unavailable, return to the BlueLine installer, VST path, and architecture checks.
If manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems and show what its free scan finds; repairs are handled by the full version. Reinstalling BlueLine remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 9: Check audio drivers only when the host has a separate driver error
An audio driver does not normally supply bluemultitap vst.dll. Driver work is relevant only if the host also reports that the sound device, ASIO driver, MIDI device, or audio engine cannot start.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To check a device driver:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and status.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver obtained from the computer or audio-device manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and retest the host.
Do not replace a working audio driver merely because BlueMultitap is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for reported driver problems and identify outdated devices, while installation of a driver is handled by the full version; the correct BlueLine installer is still required for this DLL.
Fix 10: Use repair or System Restore only as limited fallbacks
For a modern packaged application, Windows may offer a repair option:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the relevant application.
- Open its menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
This option usually does not apply to an old standalone VST installer. If BlueLine is not listed, use its original installer instead.

System Restore is worth considering only if the file disappeared after a known system change and a suitable restore point exists:
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore if the result is acceptable.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal files, and it may not recover an old plug-in. Back up current audio projects before using it.
If the error remains
Collect these details before making more changes:
- Host name and version
- Whether the host is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Windows edition and architecture
- Exact error text
- Full path where BlueLine is installed
- Whether the file exists
- File Properties details
- Antivirus quarantine status
- Host plug-in scan log
- Whether the project was created on another computer
This separates a missing file from a file that is present but incompatible. If the project was made on another computer, installing the same BlueLine version may be necessary for presets and automation to load correctly. Renaming a different DLL will not recreate the original effect.
FAQ
Is bluemultitap vst.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence identifies it as the BlueLine VST plug-in associated with Digilogue’s BlueMultitap effect.
Should I download the DLL by itself?
No. An isolated download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, or an incomplete build. It may also leave required companion files missing. Recover the original BlueLine installer or a trusted complete backup.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as the primary fix. There is no verified Microsoft runtime that supplies this particular plug-in. Reinstall BlueLine first.
Why does the file exist but still not load?
The host may be scanning another folder, the plug-in may be incompatible with the host’s architecture, the DLL may be damaged, or a dependency may be missing.
Can a 64-bit DAW load the plug-in?
Only if it has a compatible build or supported bridge. The architecture of the host process and the plug-in must match.
Is the reported version, size, or hash official?
No official release record for those catalogue details was verified. Treat third-party metadata as unconfirmed, not as proof that a downloaded DLL is genuine.
What if the original Digilogue download is unavailable?
Preserve any installer, license evidence, and backup you already have. A reputable archival source may be considered only when its provenance and malware scanning can be established. Do not treat a generic DLL catalogue as the vendor.
Will regsvr32 fix BlueMultitap?
Usually not. VST plug-ins are normally loaded by the host from its configured plug-in folder, not registered as Windows components.
