That milestone is a dated account total—not a count of people currently playing or monthly active users. The platform’s public counters now show larger, changing figures, but those counters are snapshots rather than a defined active-user measure.
When did Board Game Arena reach 10 million accounts?
Asmodee announced the milestone on August 13, 2024. GamesBeat reported the figure as more than 10 million user accounts, so it is most precise to describe the achievement as crossing that threshold rather than as an exact count of distinct people. GamesBeat’s report was updated June 18, 2025; Asmodee’s announcement was published the same day as the milestone report.
An account total does not tell readers how many people were actively playing, how often they returned, or whether every account represented a different person. The announcement and report do not define the figure as monthly active users.
How does the milestone compare with current public counters?
A Board Game Arena public-page snapshot indexed in 2026 displayed approximately 10.831 million players and 1,387 games. Those figures are dynamic and page-specific: other BGA pages displayed different counters. They should not be treated as a stable annual statistic or as a verified count of active players. The public page is available at Board Game Arena.

The 2024 milestone and a later public counter answer different questions. The milestone is a dated announcement about user accounts; a live-facing counter can change and does not, by itself, explain its counting method or activity window.
What was the platform’s scale in 2024?
At the time of the 10-million-account milestone, GamesBeat reported that Board Game Arena offered more than 900 games and saw around 5 million hours of play each month. These are historical figures reported in 2024, not current catalog or usage totals. Thomas Koegler, Asmodee’s deputy COO, also estimated in 2024 that the platform was growing by 30% per year; that was his estimate at the time, not an independently verified rate for later years. How did Board Game Arena get there?
Board Game Arena began as an online board-game portal in France in 2010. Asmodee acquired it in 2021. The service’s catalog included titles from Asmodee studios as well as hundreds of games from other publishers, reflecting an ecosystem broader than Asmodee’s own releases. GamesBeat cited Catan and Ticket to Ride among the titles added after the acquisition.
That publisher breadth was part of Asmodee’s stated approach. Koegler told GamesBeat that the company saw value in including games from other publishers rather than isolating the platform around its own products. The milestone therefore marked not only a large account base, but also the reach of a digital service built around a wide board-game catalog.

Can you play Catan or Ticket to Ride on Board Game Arena?
GamesBeat named Catan and Ticket to Ride among the titles brought to Board Game Arena after Asmodee acquired the platform. Availability can depend on the game listing and its current status, so check the game’s page on BGA for the present options. Playing a supported title digitally does not mean you need to buy its physical edition. A tabletop copy is an optional way to play in person; for example, readers interested in the physical version can look for Catan board game.
What else illustrates Board Game Arena’s reach?
In 2024, Asmodee and Board Game Arena held an AZUL World Championship that drew more than 4,000 players, according to GamesBeat. The finals took place in Lisbon, where Tung Yat “Sunny” Cheng of Hong Kong won. This was a specific competitive event, not a measure of the platform’s overall player count.
