Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is a branching, single-player campaign in which your route, character and willingness to search determine what you see. On Dauntless, the reliable approach is to choose a character whose movement suits you, commit deliberately when an alternating chapter appears, use the navigation guide to prevent backtracking, and treat every side path as a possible secret or power-up location. This walkthrough explains that process without inventing unverified room coordinates, upgrade prices or boss damage values.
The game released on October 14, 2026. Steam lists Auroch Digital as developer, Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital as publishers, and a $24.99 price at the time of listing; regional prices and the amount you pay can change. What Dauntless is asking you to manage
Boltgun 2 sends you across several new worlds while Vashtorr the Arkifane tries to power a daemonic machine with corruption. The campaign is not a single linear corridor: you alternate between chapter options, and the selection made during a playthrough cannot simply be changed later in that same run. Some decisions also open optional secret chapters. That makes route planning part of completion, not a menu choice you can ignore.

Choose your character before you choose a build

Malum: turn weight into control
Malum’s heavier approach rewards a measured rhythm. Enter an encounter by identifying the safest piece of cover and the exits you will need if a wave arrives from behind. Start with the weapon that can remove the most immediate threat, then switch rather than spending every round on a single target. His style is strongest when you deny enemies a clean approach: shorten a lane with cover, clear the first rush, and only then cross into the next section.
When exploring, do not assume that a broad room is the intended route. Check the edges after the main fight, because a heavy character can afford to pause and inspect corners that a speed-focused run might pass. Keep a reserve of ammunition or a power-up for the next locked arena instead of treating every fight as a reason to empty the current weapon.
Nyra: spend speed, not health
Nyra’s faster movement is a defensive resource. Strafe around the outside of a group, break line of sight, and re-enter from a new angle rather than trading blows in the middle. Before you trigger a fight, note a complete loop around the room or a doorway that can separate you from pursuers. Her distinct arsenal is most useful when you rotate weapons as you move: use the tool that matches the distance, then keep moving while it recovers or reloads.
Speed also makes Nyra a strong secret hunter, but it can encourage skipping checks. After an arena is quiet, run the perimeter in both directions and look behind raised structures, side doors and dead-end platforms before taking the obvious exit.
How route choices work
Alternating chapters are selected once per playthrough. The practical consequence is simple: a first run cannot show every branch. Some choices unlock optional secret chapters, so a completion-minded player should record the chapter selected, the world reached and any unusual unlock message rather than assuming the other option will remain available immediately.

Recommended first-playthrough plan
- Pick the character you can fight consistently. Completion is easier when you are not relearning movement and weapon timing at every encounter.
- Use the navigation guide or map before leaving a world. Mark the route you actually took and note any visible door, lift or platform you could not reach yet.
- When an alternating chapter appears, read the choice as a route commitment. Choose the branch that matches your current goal: a clean story clear or maximum exploration.
- After the chapter ends, record the result. Write down the selected branch and any optional chapter or new access it produced.
- Use a replay for the unselected branch. Start with the other alternating chapter and compare your notes rather than searching the same path from memory.
Fast clear versus completion run
For a fast clear, follow the guide, take the selected objective route and only detour when a side path is directly visible. For completion, slow down after each major arena, inspect every branch that reconnects to the main route, and revisit your map notes before activating the next chapter transition. These are different goals; trying to play a speed route while also checking every secret usually creates unnecessary backtracking.
Finding secrets without an unreliable checklist
The developer has confirmed several secrets and a navigation guide/map, while reviews describe hidden collectibles and secret power-ups. There is not currently an authoritative, level-by-level list that verifies every location, so no honest walkthrough can provide coordinates or claim that a particular corner contains a specific item. You can still use a repeatable search method.
The post-fight sweep
- Secure the arena first. Searching while enemies remain active causes missed pickups and avoidable damage.
- Trace the perimeter. Walk the full outer wall, checking changes in elevation, alcoves and spaces behind large props.
- Check the route you did not take. If two corridors rejoin, inspect the unused corridor before proceeding through the junction.
- Look for interaction cues. Doors, lifts, switches and ledges that appear unusual are worth testing, especially when they sit outside the direct objective line.
- Update your map notes. Record a collected item, a blocked route or an unexplained opening so a replay begins with useful information.
Secret power-ups are worth treating as part of the combat plan, not merely as collectibles. If you find one before a difficult arena, decide whether it improves survival immediately or should be preserved for the next locked encounter. Do not spend a limited-looking resource simply because the current room is safe.
Upgrades and resource management
The available material confirms that Boltgun 2 has upgrades and a broader weapon selection than the first game, but it does not establish universal upgrade costs, a fixed upgrade tree or Dauntless-specific numerical bonuses. Avoid guides that present invented prices or damage values as if they apply to every edition.
Upgrade priorities for Malum
- Favor improvements that help a weapon hold a lane or finish a priority target before it reaches you.
- Keep at least one dependable option for close threats; a long-range-only loadout is fragile when an arena collapses into melee distance.
- Choose reliability over novelty when an upgrade competes with the ammunition or weapon you already understand.
Upgrade priorities for Nyra
- Favor improvements that preserve movement while attacking, shorten the time you are exposed, or let you change distance quickly.
- Pair a fast, flexible weapon with a close-range answer so a chase does not force you into a corner.
- Use mobility to create reload windows rather than standing still to maximize a single weapon’s output.
For either character, spend upgrades around your actual failure point. If you die while crossing open ground, a purely offensive improvement may not solve the problem; a movement-friendly or control-oriented option can be more valuable. If you survive but run dry before the final wave, improve your target selection and weapon rotation before committing to a damage-focused purchase.

A combat playbook for difficult encounters
Reviews describe a wider bestiary and more varied weapons than the first Boltgun, including tougher enemies and bosses. Exact Dauntless tuning is not documented in the available material, so the safest preparation is behavior-based rather than number-based.

Do not back straight into unexplored space. Establish a retreat loop before firing, then remove the fastest pursuer first. Malum can hold a strong position and punish the approach; Nyra should circle the group and use speed to keep several enemies from arriving at once. If a chainsword or other close-range tool is equipped, use it to finish an isolated target rather than diving into the center of a pack.
Against ranged pressure
Break line of sight between shots. Move from cover to cover, eliminate the enemy that controls your current lane, and avoid exposing yourself to several firing angles at the same time. A flamer or shotgun is useful when a ranged group is forced into a doorway, but do not cross open ground simply to use a short-range weapon.
Against armored or priority targets
Separate the priority target from supporting enemies whenever the arena allows it. Use the weapon that best matches the distance and keep a second weapon ready for a sudden rush. Focusing everything on a durable enemy while minor threats remain behind you is a common cause of failed attempts; clear the immediate flank, reposition, then resume the burn-down.
Against mixed waves
Expect the fight to change after the first group falls. Save a power-up or high-impact ammunition for the transition, and do not stand where reinforcements can surround you. The goal is not to maximize damage per second in the opening seconds; it is to preserve a safe route through every phase of the encounter.

Boss encounters: a repeatable method
Boltgun 2 includes bosses, but no verified source provides a complete list of phases, attack values or arena-specific solutions. Use the following method whenever a boss gate closes.
- Spend the first attempt learning. Identify the attacks that force movement, the moments when the boss is vulnerable and the locations where ammunition or power-ups appear.
- Keep the arena readable. Avoid detonating hazards or consuming every pickup until you know what the next phase demands.
- Attack during recovery windows. Commit with the weapon suited to the distance, then disengage before the next forced movement.
- Track adds separately. If lesser enemies enter, clear the ones that block your escape route before returning to the boss.
- Adapt to your character. Malum should create controlled firing lanes; Nyra should preserve a continuous circuit around the arena.
On a retry, change one variable at a time: route, weapon order or resource timing. That makes the cause of success clear and prevents a lucky attempt from becoming a strategy you cannot reproduce.

Official descriptions emphasize chainsword, shotgun and flamer combat. Treat them as range and space-control tools rather than a fixed sequence that every character must follow.
- Chainsword: reserve it for a target already isolated or for the final step of a close-range engagement. Entering a crowd without an exit is dangerous, especially when a second wave is due.
- Shotgun: use its close-range burst to finish a threat that has breached your line, then immediately move to a safer angle. It is strongest when you control the distance instead of chasing a retreating enemy.
- Flamer: use it to deny a doorway, corridor or tight group. Keep moving so the damage-over-time effect works while you reposition, and avoid trapping yourself in the same lane you are trying to clear.
A practical chapter-by-chapter routine
Apply this routine at every world transition. It is deliberately independent of unverified level names or coordinates.

- At the first safe pause: open the navigation guide, identify the objective direction and note every visible side route.
- After each arena: perform the post-fight sweep, collect secret items or power-ups, and mark blocked paths.
- Before an alternating chapter: decide whether this run is prioritizing a clean finish or route discovery, then write down the branch you select.
- Before a boss gate: top up resources when possible, preserve one emergency option and identify a movement loop.
- At the end of a world: compare your notes with the map and record anything that requires a different branch or a later replay.
Common problems and fixes
I cannot find the secret after clearing the room
Check the unused branch first, then repeat the perimeter sweep at a different elevation. Some hidden routes are easy to miss when viewed only from the objective-facing side. If no interaction or opening appears, record the location and continue rather than assuming the item is guaranteed there.

I keep dying before the next checkpoint
Shorten each engagement. Pull the first enemy group into a known space, preserve an escape route, and stop spending your strongest weapon on targets that are not yet a threat. Nyra should widen the circuit; Malum should reduce the number of firing lanes reaching him.
I selected the wrong chapter
That choice is locked for the current playthrough. Finish or abandon the run according to your goal, then replay and select the other alternating chapter. Keep written notes so the second route is an intentional comparison rather than another blind search.
A boss feels impossible on Dauntless
Use one attempt to map its movement and phase changes, then revise your resource timing. If you are losing to adds, solve the escape route first; if you are losing during the boss’s recovery window, change weapon distance or attack timing. Exact Dauntless damage thresholds are not established, so a claimed magic number should not be treated as authoritative.

A single run can demonstrate your selected route, the secrets you personally found and the upgrades available on that path. It cannot prove that every secret or optional chapter has been seen, because the campaign branches and some choices are one-time selections per playthrough. A genuinely complete collection therefore requires route notes and at least one replay, not simply a rush to the final objective.
Auroch Digital has described the sequel as an effort to make the game bigger and better than the original, including a second playable character and four Chaos factions. Lead artist Mark Chambers described the project as having elements that feel like “lightning in a bottle.” Those ambitions explain the broader campaign, but they do not replace an exact map. Until a verified database documents every level, the combination of map discipline, character-specific combat and deliberate replays is the most dependable Dauntless walkthrough.
