Boothill is a five-star Physical Hunt character built around single-target Break damage. For the current Version 4.6 recommendations, prioritize Speed and Break Effect, equip Sailing Towards A Second Life when available, and pair him with supports that strengthen Break opportunities. The recommended team is Boothill, Ruan Mei, Fugue, and Gallagher—but the best lineup depends on your roster and the encounter.
How to build Boothill
The recommendations below reflect HSR Build’s guide, updated September 26, 2026 and labeled Version 4.6. Its equipment rankings are attributed to Prydwen’s in-play rankings; they are guide recommendations, not official HoYoverse endorsements. Rankings and team options can change with game updates and character availability.

Light Cones
Sailing Towards A Second Life is the top Light Cone in the current reference. Prydwen describes Boothill’s signature as its strongest option, citing Break Effect, Speed, and DEF shred. HSR Build displays a 113.16% relative damage ratio for it at the listed S1 assumptions; this is a comparison under those assumptions, not a universal damage increase.
Alternatives listed by HSR Build are Shadowed By Night, Adversarial, and River Flows in Spring. For the detailed ranking and its assumptions, see HSR Build’s Boothill build and teams guide and Prydwen’s Boothill guide.

Relics and planar ornament
- Relic set: Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge is the current recommended set. Thief of Shooting Meteor and Eagle of Twilight Line are listed as alternatives.
- Planar ornament: Talia: Kingdom of Banditry.
Main stats and priority
Use Speed feet and a Break Effect rope. Body and sphere are flexible in the current recommendation. Prioritize enough Speed to reach a useful action frequency for your team and turn order, then invest in Break Effect. There is no single mandatory Speed breakpoint: buffs, enemy order, and the rest of your lineup affect what is useful.
Trace priority and ascension
Recommended trace priority is Talent > Skill > Ultimate > Basic Attack. HSR Build lists the Ultimate’s energy cost as 115. For level-80 ascension planning, its material list includes 65 IPC Work Permits, an in-game resource.
Boothill’s abilities and combat plan
HSR Build’s descriptions are based on game data; the HoYoWiki Boothill page was located but did not yield readable text for direct verification. Treat the mechanics here as a concise guide to the current reference rather than a quotation from an accessible official wiki entry.
Basic Attack and Skill
Boothill’s Basic Attack deals single-target Physical damage. His Skill puts him and one selected enemy into Standoff, enhances his Basic Attack, taunts that enemy, and prevents him from using the Skill while the state is active. This makes the marked target the center of his attack sequence.

Ultimate and Talent
His Ultimate deals damage, delays a selected enemy’s action, and applies Physical Weakness to that target for two turns. His Talent supports the Break-focused play pattern: he builds Pocket Trickshot stacks and gains value from breaking opponents.
Practical sequence
- Choose a priority target and use Boothill’s Skill to establish Standoff.
- Use the enhanced Basic Attack sequence to build the Break setup against that target.
- Use the Ultimate when adding Physical Weakness can create or improve a Break opportunity, especially when the target’s existing matchup makes that useful.
Best Boothill team and teammate roles
The current recommended lineup is Boothill / Ruan Mei / Fugue / Gallagher. Think of it as a role-based Break team, not a mandatory four-character formula.
| Character | Role in the lineup |
|---|---|
| Boothill | Single-target Break carry. |
| Ruan Mei | Amplifies Break performance. |
| Fugue | Supports Weakness-implant and Break setup. |
| Gallagher | Sustain who can also contribute to breaking. |
If you lack one of these characters—or do not want to build Gallagher—choose a substitute by checking what the fight and your account need: a Break amplifier, support for creating a Break opportunity, or sustain that can contribute against the enemy. A community megathread shows players asking about Gallagher replacements, but that anecdotal discussion does not establish one universally best substitute. The right choice depends on your available characters, enemy weaknesses, and sustain requirements.

Mode ratings are publisher assessments, not official rankings. HSR Build’s Version 4.6 page displays T2 for Memory of Chaos (MoC), T5 for Pure Fiction (PF), and T1 for Apocalyptic Shadow (AS). Prydwen’s mode discussion emphasizes that the modes reward different combat strengths.

| Mode | What the mode tends to reward | What to consider for Boothill |
|---|---|---|
| Memory of Chaos | Single-target damage can be useful. | Consider the priority target’s toughness and weakness, the chance to Break it, and whether your supports enable Boothill’s setup. |
| Pure Fiction | Area damage is especially valuable. | Boothill’s single-target focus is less naturally aligned with encounters that reward clearing many enemies quickly. |
| Apocalyptic Shadow | Single-target damage and Break are important. | Assess the boss’s Break opportunities, Physical matchup, and the support options available on your account. |
