After Update 1.10, Vex is a strong all-around candidate in one independent tier analysis, while Amon’s Vengeance-focused melee direction is another promising post-patch option. The better choice depends on whether you are leveling, clearing groups, fighting bosses, or pushing high-rank Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (UVHM)—and on the gear you have. The current level cap is 70, so check that any build you follow uses a level-70 allocation rather than an older level-60 setup.
What changed in Update 1.10—and what that means for builds
Gearbox’s September 10, 2026 Version 1.10 update raised the level cap by 10 levels to 70 for all players and rebalanced all four launch Vault Hunters. A build made before the cap increase may leave skill points unallocated, and older advice about a tree or action-skill loop may no longer reflect its post-patch balance.

The changes are balance adjustments, not proof that a particular Hunter now wins every encounter. Gearbox has not published Hunter win-rate or completion-rate data. A September 29 third-party tier analysis places Vex at the top among the four launch Hunters, but that ranking is editorial opinion, not measured performance data.
| Vault Hunter | What Version 1.10 changed | Build direction to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Vex | Gearbox improved summon damage and survivability. Blight Attunement’s cooldown fell from 40 seconds to 20 seconds and its damage increased by 240%. The Here Comes Trouble tree also received damage, health, and cooldown improvements. | Test a summon-oriented setup or a build that leans on Blight Attunement’s improved damage and more frequent use. These patch changes make the options more attractive; they do not establish a universal best build. |
| Amon | Forgeskill cooldowns fell by 5, 10, or 15 seconds, depending on the skill family. In Vengeance, Forgeaxes, Forgeswords, and Forgehammers gained 100% damage. | A Vengeance-focused melee direction is a notable post-patch candidate. Check whether its close-range playstyle suits the activity and difficulty you intend to tackle. |
| Rafa | People Person and Remote Agent received broad damage and cooldown improvements. APOPHIS Lance cooldown fell from 38 seconds to 25 seconds, and its damage increased by roughly 30%. | Consider these improved trees and the more frequent APOPHIS Lance loop when choosing an action-skill-focused setup. |
| Harlowe | Seize the Day received damage and cooldown improvements. The update does not establish that all of Harlowe’s trees were changed equally. | Evaluate Seize the Day specifically rather than assuming every Harlowe build received the same benefit. |
The cooldown and damage figures above are Gearbox balance figures from the 2026 patch notes, not player performance statistics. The developer note for Version 1.6 said, “Getting the right balance for Action Skills and skill trees is a constant focus for us.” Balance can change again, so use the version date when judging build advice.

How to choose a build for the activity you want to play
Build advice is most useful when it names its intended activity, difficulty, playstyle, and gear demands. A setup that clears ordinary groups quickly may not be the one you want for a boss or a timed raid. Before copying a build, check whether its level-70 skill allocation and equipment assumptions match your character.
- Leveling: Favor a setup that works with the gear you already find and can handle varied encounters. Avoid treating a gear-intensive endgame build as a requirement for the campaign.
- Mobbing: Look for sustained damage and tools that work against groups. Summons, action skills, melee, weapon damage, and status effects are different ways to build around that goal; choose the one that fits your preferred playstyle.
- Bossing: Check whether the build is designed for a single durable target, and whether its damage loop depends on a cooldown or a particular item.
- Raids: A build must perform under the encounter’s conditions, including its timer and reward thresholds. A strong campaign setup is not automatically a strong raid setup.
- High-rank UVHM or True Mode: Prioritize a setup you can clear consistently at the chosen challenge level. A maximum-damage claim is less useful if the build depends on gear or execution you do not have.
Use a build listing as a starting point, not a promise of best-in-slot performance. The current creator index includes level-70 endgame builds for C4SH, Vex, and Loveless, among others, but the available comparisons do not establish a definitive cross-Hunter ranking or exact best-in-slot gear for every activity.
How to check a build before spending time on its gear
- Confirm the version and level cap. Prefer a level-70 allocation updated for Version 1.10 or later. Treat level-60 guides as potentially outdated, especially where the patch changed the relevant tree or action skill.
- Match the build to your target. Identify whether its author intends it for leveling, mobbing, bossing, raids, or a particular endgame difficulty.
- Check the equipment assumptions. Note any named items or other gear dependencies before beginning a long farm. If the build’s defining equipment is unavailable, choose a less gear-dependent alternative or use the listing as a skill-tree reference.
- Try the central skill loop in a low-stakes mission. Check how the action skill, cooldowns, and damage feel in actual play before committing to a lengthy gear chase. This is a practical way to evaluate a newly buffed tree, not a claim that a specific build has been tested here.
- Reassess after a balance update. Gearbox says skill balance is ongoing; changes to a tree, cooldown, or level cap can alter how well an old allocation fits its stated purpose.
Which additional Hunters require paid DLC?
Keep base-game advice separate from builds for paid Story Pack Hunters. The level-cap increase in Version 1.10 applies to all players, but it does not make every Hunter part of the base game.
- C4SH was introduced as a paid Story Pack Hunter in the official March update and can be played across the game. The current build index includes level-70 C4SH entries.
- Loveless the Hacker is paid content in Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort. Gearbox describes her Corrosive and Radiation kit, three action skills, and Function/Executable actions. Level-70 endgame builds are listed, but the available evidence does not establish a robust ranking for her against the other Hunters.
You do not need either DLC Hunter to follow the base-game campaign or the core endgame progression route.

How to progress through Borderlands 4 endgame
Post-campaign progression is a cycle of challenges and loot opportunities, not simply a requirement to replay the whole campaign to gain UVHM ranks. The official UVHM announcement describes curated mission challenges, Firmware set bonuses, weekly Wildcard missions with guaranteed Legendary rewards, and the Big Encore boss activity. Later official updates added further ranks and raid systems. Gearbox’s support archive records UVHM 7 as of its October 1, 2026 weekly update; earlier references to a five-rank launch describe the initial announcement, not the current archived maximum.
Use UVHM challenges to advance
Choose the available challenge that matches your build and your goal. Firmware set bonuses and challenge rewards are part of the progression loop, while the weekly mission and Big Encore boss provide changing targets. Because the current rank record is tied to a dated support archive, check the in-game options or latest official update if a later patch has appeared.
Raise raid rewards by completing the encounter well
In the Bloomreaper encounter, completion time determines whether the reward tier is Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum; higher tiers provide stronger bonus rewards. Some dedicated drops are restricted to UVHM and specific reward thresholds, so the activity’s requirements matter when deciding whether to farm it. Select a difficulty you can clear consistently before chasing a higher tier.
Choose True Mode for a separate difficulty challenge
True Mode is a separate post-campaign difficulty setting. It scales enemies as if you were playing in a four-person party, regardless of your actual party size, and operates independently of UVHM. Decide whether to add that pressure based on the challenge you want; it is not another UVHM rank.
Quick Recap
Make weekly farming a repeatable loop
- Pick a target item or activity.
- Check the current weekly mission or Big Encore boss and its reward before choosing where to spend your time.
- Select a difficulty your build can clear reliably, taking any UVHM or reward-tier requirement for the desired drop into account.
- Raise the challenge when the improved reward is worth the added difficulty and time.
- Check the current rotation again when you return: weekly bosses, missions, and Maurice’s Black Market offerings change, so a specific target should not be treated as permanent advice.
