Balatro’s 1.0.1f update added Perishable and Rental Joker stickers, revised Orange and Gold Stake rules, and changed blind-score requirements at several stakes. It went live for everyone on May 1, 2024, and LocalThunk described it as the first “meaty balance patch.” The release notes cover changes accumulated since 1.0.0n and say 1.0.1f is functionally identical to experimental 1.0.1e. What Perishable and Rental Jokers do
The patch introduced two stickers that add a recurring drawback to Jokers. Each has a 30% chance to appear, according to the patch notes.

Perishable
A Perishable Joker is disabled after five rounds. The notes also make several non-retroactive scaling Jokers incompatible with Perishable, so disabling one cannot erase scaling it has accumulated.
Rental
A Rental Joker costs $1 upfront and another $3 each round. Rental can stack with both Eternal and Perishable, so a Joker may carry more than one of these constraints.

How Orange and Gold Stakes changed
The update moved the high-stake penalties rather than simply removing them: Orange and Gold exchanged some of their former pressure for the new sticker mechanics.

These changes alter the risk of shop choices and Joker durability. In particular, Rental can drain money each round, while Perishable limits how long a Joker remains active.

The patch changed blind requirements in both directions: some thresholds fell and others rose. The figures below are the old requirement followed by the new requirement, grouped by stake and ante as listed in the official notes.

The notes do not list a Purple Stake change for Ante 5. The changed thresholds therefore do not support a blanket claim that every run became easier or harder.

Shop and card changes

The first shop in every run now includes a normal Buffoon pack as one of its options. After a Boss Blind or cash-out, the shop also shows upcoming blinds and tags, giving players more information for planning purchases.
Selected Joker and Planet changes
The update adjusted many effects; these examples illustrate the breadth, not the complete list. Blue Seal now generates the Planet card for the final poker hand played during a round. Hanging Chad retriggers the first played card twice, and Investment pays $25 instead of $15.

Several Planet cards received stronger effects: Saturn gives Straights +3 Mult (up from +2); Neptune gives Straight Flushes +4 Mult (up from +3); Eris gives Flush Fives +50 Chips (up from +40); and Ceres gives Flush Houses +4 Mult (up from +3). Performance, accessibility, and bugs
The announcement says the update moved to an updated Love2D engine to address poor or stuttery performance reported by some Windows and Steam Deck players. It also notes general performance improvements, a Reduced Motion toggle, bug fixes, and new blind bans in several Challenge runs. The announcement does not establish patch parity across platforms or which version is currently installed on a given device.
