For an early repeatable boss farm, return to Splashzone in Riptide Grotto after unlocking The Stockroom fast-travel point. For a specific weapon, target Horace in the Hungering Plains: PC Gamer identifies him as a source of the legendary Vladof assault rifle Aegon’s Dream. Both routes use Moxxi’s Big Encore machine to respawn the boss, but neither guide promises a Legendary drop or gives a verified drop rate.
Which early Legendary route should you choose?

The practical difference is broad loot attempts versus a named weapon target. The available guides do not provide a controlled comparison of fight time, respawn cost, or drop probability, so there is no established basis for calling either route faster or more reliable.

How to farm Splashzone
- During Recruitment Drive, defeat Splashzone in Riptide Grotto.
- Advance the story until The Stockroom Order Silo is available, then clear it to unlock the fast-travel point.
- Fast-travel back to The Stockroom and return to Splashzone’s arena in Riptide Grotto.
- Pay the Moxxi’s Big Encore machine to respawn Splashzone, then fight him again.
- Repeat the cycle as desired; Insider Gaming notes an Ammo Dump nearby where you can sell unwanted loot.
Insider Gaming describes this as an opportunity to try for a Legendary or collect high-rarity Epic gear, not as a guaranteed Legendary farm. The guide does not give a numeric drop chance.
How to target Aegon’s Dream from Horace
- Progress to the Down and Outbound main mission, which unlocks Horace.
- Fight Horace at Horace’s Oversight in the Hungering Plains region of the Fadefields.
- After the fight, use the Moxxi Big Encore machine beside the boss area to respawn him for another attempt.
PC Gamer describes Aegon’s Dream as a Vladof assault rifle that fires fire-and-ice projectiles and has the unique Prophetic perk. The guide says its writer obtained the weapon after a few runs; that is an individual anecdote, not a drop-rate estimate or a promise that it will drop for you.

Why early boss drops are not guaranteed
Gearbox says Legendary drops are designed to feel like special events, and its PlayStation Blog feature describes replaying missions or using Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine to fight bosses again. Repeated attempts give you more chances; they do not establish a guaranteed result or a fixed number of runs.
Do not confuse these early boss routes with the weekly endgame rewards described in 2K’s endgame overview. That overview places Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and weekly activities in post-game progression. It describes a Weekly Wildcard mission with a guaranteed Legendary reward and a Weekly Big Encore boss with increased drop rates. Those endgame benefits are not stated as guarantees for Splashzone or Horace during the early game.
