The Borderlands 4 gameplay trailer that introduced the new Vault Hunters premiered during PlayStation’s State of Play on April 30, 2025. It is a past reveal, not a newly released trailer: Vex and Rafa take the foreground as the team fights across Kairos, while Harlowe and Amon complete the four-character starting roster.
What the April 30, 2025 trailer shows
Gearbox Creative Director Graeme Timmins introduced the footage as “our deepest ever look at some explosive, carnage-filled gameplay, all running on PlayStation 5 Pro.” The reveal’s combat showcases two of the game’s four Vault Hunters in action. The action unfolds on Kairos, a previously hidden planet ruled by the Timekeeper. Publisher coverage frames the conflict as a fight against his control, with four distinct regions and factions resisting his rule; the setting is more than a generic combat backdrop.
Which Vault Hunters appear in the trailer?
Vex
Vex is a Siren who channels phase energy and can summon deadly shades. Her supernatural abilities give the footage one of its clearest examples of a character-specific combat style.

Rafa
Rafa is an Exo-Soldier and former Tediore trooper. His experimental suit can digistruct weapons, giving him a different approach to the fight from Vex.
Harlowe and Amon
Harlowe and Amon round out the four-Hunter starting lineup, though Vex and Rafa are the two foregrounded in this gameplay reveal. The trailer is therefore a look at part of the roster, not a showcase of all four characters equally.

The publisher’s gameplay deep dive describes systems and features shown or discussed alongside the footage. They are publisher descriptions, not independent hands-on findings.
- Character builds: class-specific Action Skills and branching skill trees.
- Movement: gliding, dashing, double-jumping, and point-grappling.

Does the trailer show co-op, and can you play solo?
Borderlands 4 supports parties of up to four, according to the publisher’s announcement. It also describes instanced loot, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty settings. Those features are intended to let players share a session while tailoring difficulty and loot to each player. The announcement describes co-op support; it does not make solo play contingent on joining a group.
Is Borderlands 4 out now, and where can you play it?
Yes. Borderlands 4 launched on September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on October 3, 2025. Why does the trailer still matter?
The April 2025 reveal is a useful introduction to the game’s premise and systems, but it predates the September launch. It shows Vex and Rafa, establishes Kairos as the setting for the fight against the Timekeeper, and previews movement, builds, gear, and cooperative play. For current availability or edition contents, use the later launch information rather than treating the original trailer as a current product listing.
