How to approach boss fights in The Pre-Sequel
There is no single build or weapon that suits every boss. Your character, level, equipment, and whether you are playing solo or cooperatively all affect which tactics make sense. Start by identifying the target that matters most, then adapt your aim and movement to the attacks in that arena.

The lunar setting makes movement part of combat: low gravity and oxygen-powered double-jumping can help you reposition or reach elevated areas. Cryo and lasers are also part of the game’s combat toolkit, but the encounter advice below does not establish one damage type as universally best.
The game supports single-player and four-player local and online co-op. A tactic that depends on one player drawing attention while another attacks is therefore an option for a group, not a requirement for solo play. The game’s platforms and editions vary; check the exact version relevant to you before relying on platform-specific instructions.

Main-campaign encounters
Red Belly: prioritize Red
Prima Games’ October 23, 2014 guide recommends focusing on Red first: if Belly goes down first, Red becomes harder to hit. While both are active, it identifies Red’s legs and Belly’s head as useful targets and advises aiming for critical hits. A Red Belly’s Black Snake SMG may drop, according to the guide.
Deadlift: keep moving and manage Scurvs
Prima recommends a sniper rifle and headshots against Deadlift, while staying mobile around his laser and orb attacks. Clear the Scurvs rather than letting them become an unmanaged distraction. The guide also suggests using jump pads to look for ammunition, making arena navigation part of the fight plan.

- BRING MAYHEM TO THE MOON: Feel the moon’s low gravity with every jump and stomp. New weapons equipped with ice and laser capabilities to cause mayhem! New enemies offer a space-based twist!
- THE RISE OF HANDSOME JACK: Witness Handsome Jack’s rise to power. Dive deep into the origins of iconic Borderlands villains. Turn the tables and experience Handsome Jack’s side of the story.
- A NEW CLASS OF ANTIHEROES: Play as one of four new character classes, including Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and Athena the Gladiator. Play as a combat-ready Claptrap prototype for the first-time! Experience the gray morality of working alongside Handsome Jack.
For co-op, Prima suggests that players divide ranged damage and distraction roles. Treat that as one dated guide’s tactical suggestion, not a tested requirement or a substitute for adjusting to your group’s characters and equipment.
Flame Knuckle: keep distance
Prima describes Flame Knuckle as a slow, powerful opponent who uses fire, and recommends maintaining distance and using a precision weapon against exposed targets. The article’s weak-point wording is inconsistent in this section, so it does not establish a specific vulnerable body part. Focus on spacing and clear shots rather than relying on a precise weak-point claim.

Optional encounter: secret Nel fight
Optional spoiler: Prima’s guide says this hidden encounter is available after completing Nel’s side quest. Its unlock method involves arranging letters by the “IC 57” stamp to spell a profanity.
- Complete Nel’s side quest.
- Find the letters near the “IC 57” stamp.
- Arrange the letters to spell “DICK” to trigger the secret encounter.
Prima names the Chikamin Skullmasher as a reward. The guide’s description establishes the unlock and reward, but does not provide enough encounter-specific tactics to recommend a particular weapon or positioning strategy.

Bosses outside the main campaign
Do not assume that every boss mentioned online belongs to the required campaign sequence. A community-maintained wiki search result identifies The Bosun as a boss encountered during a mission at Pity’s Fall, but the available information here does not establish detailed tactics or a full encounter order.
The same limitation applies to DLC: a community-maintained wiki search result identifies ECLIPSE as the penultimate boss in the Claptastic Voyage DLC. That identifies its place within that DLC, not a complete DLC boss list or reliable fight strategy.

Sources and scope
The specific encounter recommendations in this guide are attributed to Prima Games Staff’s article, published October 23, 2014. They are published advice, not claims of firsthand testing. The available material does not establish an exhaustive ordered roster, a ranked difficulty list, or universally effective builds. For that reason, this guide focuses on the encounters for which the source supports concrete advice and labels the optional and DLC material separately.
