Brave Dungeon is a turn-based, three-person dungeon RPG built around visible encounters, incremental floor progress, crafting and Class Changes. Dark Witch’s Story: COMBAT is a separate three-card, best-of-three battle game in which medal timing, attributes, team links and character progression decide each duel. They share INSIDE SYSTEM’s characters and setting lineage, but their moment-to-moment systems are fundamentally different: one is about routing through labyrinths and developing a party, the other about constructing a compact battle team and managing a medal deck.
What each game is trying to make you do
Brave Dungeon follows Al across Belfer Island, through labyrinths and toward the Godshill dungeon and the ultimate Magic Item. Its structure is deliberately readable: choose a dungeon, see the enemies on the map, decide which fights are worth taking, then turn the resulting experience and materials into a stronger party. Nintendo describes it as a dungeon-crawling RPG with an easy-to-pick-up combat system, equipment customization, crafting and Class Changes.

Dark Witch’s Story: COMBAT uses characters and creatures from the Dark Witch series in a focused card game. Each side fields three character cards in a best-of-three match. The tactical work happens before and during each one-on-one round: you select a three-card team, build around a 12-medal deck, spend Syega Crystals at the right time and use Magic Items, attributes and linked effects to win enough rounds.
The games therefore reward different habits. Brave Dungeon rewards route planning and a party build that survives a sequence of encounters. COMBAT rewards reading the opposing team, preserving resources between rounds and arranging effects so that one fighter sets up the next.

How Brave Dungeon’s dungeon loop works
Five dungeons, selectable in any order
Nintendo Life’s review identifies five dungeons, and says they can be attempted in any order. That does not make every floor equally suitable at the start: floors become incrementally harder, so the useful choice is usually the dungeon and floor where your current party can win consistently while still gaining meaningful experience and materials.
There are no random encounters. Enemies appear on the map, allowing you to route around a dangerous group, approach a preferred target or clear a path deliberately. This turns exploration into a series of small decisions rather than an unpredictable drain on resources. You can scout a floor, identify a fight you want, and leave other enemies for a later visit.
A practical scouting-and-upgrade cycle
- Enter a manageable dungeon. Start with a floor where your current equipment and skills can handle ordinary encounters without exhausting healing options.
- Read enemy positions before committing. Visible enemies let you choose a safe route, avoid an unfavorable battle or line up several fights when you are prepared.
- Take selected encounters. Experience improves the party, while enemy drops and treasure chests supply the materials used for crafting and equipment improvements.
- Return to town when the gains stop outweighing the risk. Purchased items recharge after returning to town, according to Nintendo Life’s review, so a retreat is part of the intended loop rather than a failure state.
- Spend Tres and craft. Upgrade the skills you actually use, make equipment from the materials you collected and adjust roles before pushing a harder floor.
- Re-enter with a clearer plan. The next attempt should target a higher floor, a better material source or a previously avoided enemy whose position you now understand.
Dying carries no reported penalty. That removes the usual pressure to protect a permanent resource and makes experimentation practical: you can test a route or a class direction, learn the floor and try again without losing progress to a death tax.
Brave Dungeon combat and party building
A three-character, turn-based party
Combat uses a party of three, with Al as the central hero and allies filling complementary roles. Nintendo’s listing emphasizes customization, while the Nintendo Life review describes useful party identities such as healers, technical fighters and brawlers. Those labels are best treated as build directions rather than rigid jobs: the important question is whether the three characters cover the kinds of problems the current floor presents.

- Healing-oriented builds keep the party operating through several chosen encounters and reduce the need to retreat after every fight.
- Technical fighters contribute effects and situational tools that can matter more than raw damage against particular enemies.
- Brawlers provide direct pressure when ending a fight quickly is safer than extending it.
A balanced party is not automatically the best party. If a floor contains enemies that punish slow battles, more direct damage may be preferable; if attrition is the problem, healing and defensive utility become more valuable. Because encounters are visible, you can also tailor the party to the route you intend to take instead of building for an abstract average battle.
Tres, skills and Class Changes
Players spend Tres to choose skill upgrades. The meaningful decision is not simply to buy every available improvement, but to invest in the attacks, support effects and utility that match your intended role. A skill that looks modest in isolation can become important when it lets a character perform consistently across a whole floor.
Later, Class Changes let you commit characters to a preferred specialization. This is the point at which a flexible early party becomes a more deliberate build. Consider the job each character is already performing, the equipment you can craft and the enemies you still need to handle before selecting a path. A Class Change should answer a problem in your party, not just provide a higher-sounding label.

Materials come from defeated enemies and treasure chests. Crafting turns exploration into a direct power increase: every deliberate encounter can supply the ingredients for equipment that improves a chosen character or patches a weakness in the group. Check both sources rather than treating treasure as the only valuable reward; an enemy-heavy route may be the faster way to gather what a recipe requires.

Equipment and skills should be planned together. Strengthening a brawler’s damage is useful only if the rest of the party can keep that character acting, while a healer’s value depends on surviving long enough to use support skills. Revisit equipment after a Class Change, because a specialization can alter which stats and effects deserve priority.
How Dark Witch’s Story: COMBAT matches are structured
Three cards and a best-of-three objective
The basic match asks each player to choose three character cards. The teams then face one another in a series of one-on-one rounds; the player who wins the required number of rounds takes the best-of-three match. Nintendo and Steam describe Magic Items that can be assigned to cards and change how a match develops, so team selection is only the first layer of preparation.
The PlayStation description says the roster contains more than 40 characters. That size makes the three-card limit significant: you are not trying to deploy everyone, but to select a small group whose attributes, roles and effects work together.

- Support phase: establish or preserve an advantage with effects that prepare the active fighter or influence the next exchange.
- Main phase: commit the attack, recovery, buff or debuff that determines the immediate duel.
The exact value of a medal depends on timing as much as on its printed effect. Spending your strongest option immediately may win one exchange but leave you unable to answer the next fighter. Conversely, holding a response too long can allow the opponent to build an advantage that is difficult to reverse.
Medals, Syega Crystals and the 12-medal deck
Medals are played from a 12-medal deck. Syega Crystals accumulate each turn and are spent to use those medals, creating a resource curve inside every round. Attacks are only one category: medals can also heal, buff an ally or debuff an opponent. The practical task is to maintain enough crystal economy and hand flexibility to respond to the opponent rather than emptying the deck on the first exchange.
Because the match is best-of-three, resource management extends beyond a single knockout. A winning first round can still be costly if it consumes the medals and crystals needed for the second. Build the deck so that it has an early play, a way to stabilize and a credible finisher.

Attributes, roles and linked effects
Rock-paper-scissors attributes create favorable and unfavorable matchups. They do not replace planning, but they make the order of your three cards important: an awkward opening matchup may be acceptable if the next fighter can exploit the opponent’s likely response.

Some roles pass effects to the next fighter. These hand-offs make the team a sequence rather than three isolated cards. A support effect placed on the right first fighter can improve the next duel; the same effect used on the wrong card may expire without producing value.
Team Links add another layer by rewarding particular combinations, while each character has a signature medal that defines part of that card’s identity. When comparing candidates, look at the complete package: attribute, role, link compatibility and signature effect, not only the character’s headline strength.

Quest mode
Quest Mode contains 45 quests according to the PlayStation listing. Wins provide experience points, characters and medals, giving the mode a built-in progression path rather than a set of isolated matches. Characters can gain levels, unlock higher ranks and equip skills; some higher ranks receive new card art.

Once a quest has been cleared, it can be replayed with Auto Battle. Auto Battle is therefore a farming and practice convenience after mastery, not a substitute for learning the rules of a new fight.
Battle mode
Battle Mode is the competitive-facing option described by the game listings. Its central challenge is team construction: select three cards, assign Magic Items where appropriate, tune the medal deck and account for the opponent’s likely attribute and role choices. The best setup is situational; a deck that is excellent for a quest boss may be inefficient against a player who can deliberately counter its opening card.

Which system should you focus on first?
If Brave Dungeon is your priority
- Use visible enemy placement to control the number and type of fights you take.
- Return to town before a marginal encounter turns a profitable run into an unnecessary death.
- Spend Tres on a coherent role plan instead of spreading upgrades across skills you rarely use.
- Craft from both enemy materials and chest loot, then reassess equipment after a Class Change.
- Change dungeon or floor when the current route no longer gives enough experience or materials for its risk.
If COMBAT is your priority
- Choose the three characters as a linked sequence, considering who benefits from effects passed forward.
- Build the 12-medal deck around a resource curve: opening plays, stabilization and a finisher.
- Track Syega Crystals each turn; a powerful medal is only useful when you can afford its timing cost.
- Use attributes and Team Links together rather than selecting cards on raw strength alone.
- Learn a quest manually before relying on Auto Battle, especially when a final battle introduces a special rule.

Store descriptions and platform pages can present the games together while their systems remain distinct. Treat the dungeon RPG and the card battler as separate learning curves: progress in one does not teach the other’s resource rules, even though both draw from the same broader Dark Witch universe.
