Breakout Beyond, Atari’s side-scrolling reimagining of its brick-breaking series, launched on March 25, 2025, and is now available across major consoles and PC storefronts. It turns the familiar paddle-and-brick format sideways, with 72 levels, local co-op and an endless mode to unlock.
What is Breakout Beyond?
Developed by Choice Provisions and published by Atari, Breakout Beyond is a side-scrolling Breakout game. Instead of bouncing a ball through a vertically arranged field, players break through bricks while advancing toward an end goal. Atari describes the change as flipping the series “on its head – or rather, its side.” Atari’s product page presents it as a new take on the classic format, not a conventional remake.
How the game plays
Levels, blocks and power-ups
The game includes 72 original levels, according to Atari’s official product listing. Special blocks grant power-ups, including large brick-breaking blasts, a forcefield that can save the ball, and a laser cannon. Combo play also intensifies the game’s procedural audio and visual effects.
Focus mode and co-op
Focus mode slows time, but using it comes at the expense of score. Local two-player co-op lets two people play together on one system; Nintendo’s listing specifies support for one or two players on a single system. Nintendo’s Switch listing also gives the download size as 761 MB.

Endless mode
Beating the game unlocks endless mode, which includes an online global leaderboard. That gives players a score-chasing option after completing the set levels.
Platforms and editions
Atari lists the game for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Xbox listing names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The sources establish availability, but do not support claims about differences in performance or features between platforms.
