The image was removed, but reports identified the designs as cockatoo-inspired emblems: a pink cockatoo for the Olympics and a sulphur-crested cockatoo for the Paralympics.
How the Brisbane 2032 emblems leaked
The official Brisbane 2032 YouTube channel briefly showed both emblems in the preview image for a scheduled “Emblem Explainer” video. The image was visible for a short time before it was taken down, three days ahead of the planned Monday unveiling in Brisbane, according to ABC News.
The appearance came during a staged rollout. In the preceding week, organisers had revealed pieces of the emblem during a Queensland tour, with reported stops including Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast. A community unveiling in Brisbane was planned for Monday night, according to The Guardian.
What do the Olympic and Paralympic emblems look like?
| Emblem | Bird and colour | Reported design idea |
|---|---|---|
| Olympic | Pink cockatoo crest, with colour stylised to evoke a Games flame | The crest is presented as a living torch in the video description quoted by ABC News. |
| Paralympic | Sulphur-crested cockatoo, in the bird’s familiar yellow | Shares the reported crest-and-flame concept with the Olympic emblem. |
The designs are not described as literal bird portraits: the Australian Associated Press characterised the Olympic mark as a stylised pink cockatoo crest and said the Paralympic version uses the sulphur-crested cockatoo’s yellow. Both emblems were also described as shaped like Queensland, with Brisbane as the focal point, in the video description quoted in ABC News’s report.

What organisers said about the leak
Queensland Minister for the Olympics Tim Mander said, “I’m actually excited it’s finally out,” as reported by The Guardian. He said organisers had spent the week revealing the emblem piece by piece around Queensland.
Brisbane 2032 chief marketing officer Brent Hill called the publicity “incredible” and said the reaction had been positive. He also acknowledged the rollout might have been handled differently: “If we had our time over, maybe there’s different ways that we could have done it,” according to ABC News.

Was the emblem leak intentional?
The reports do not establish whether the preview appeared deliberately or identify the technical mistake, if any, that made it public. ABC News reported that Mander declined to say whether the early appearance was planned. The available reporting therefore confirms that the preview was briefly visible and removed, but not why it appeared.
