brmflpt.dll is a Brother MFL Pro component, not a normal Windows file. When brmflpt.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the Brother printer or scanner package that requested it instead of downloading an isolated DLL.

Which fix applies to you
Use this list to choose where to start:
- The error appeared after a Brother installation failed: remove the incomplete Brother package, restart Windows, and reinstall the exact model-specific package.
- The error appeared after a Windows upgrade or update: check whether your Brother model still has a supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 package.
- The error appeared after antivirus activity: inspect Windows Security quarantine before reinstalling or restoring anything.
- You replaced a printer, changed USB ports, or reconfigured a network printer: remove the old Brother software and install the package for the current model.
- The error says “specified module could not be found”: the DLL may exist, but Windows may be unable to find one of its dependencies.
- The error says the file is corrupted or not designed to run on Windows: suspect a damaged, incompatible, or wrong-architecture installation.
- The Brother device is very old and no current package is offered: the hardware or MFL-Pro software may no longer support your Windows version.
In most cases, begin with the clean Brother uninstall and reinstall in the next section.

Public file records describe brmflpt.dll as “Parallel port interface DLL for Resource Manager.” It is associated with Brother MFL Pro and published by Brother Industries, Ltd.

The “parallel port” wording does not mean that your current printer must use a physical parallel-port cable. It describes a legacy interface component inside Brother’s Resource Manager software. Older Brother printer and multifunction-device packages often included support for several connection methods and device-management functions, including components that are no longer common on modern computers.
Brother’s MFL-Pro Suite software can include printer, scanner, PC-FAX, ControlCenter, and related device utilities. The program that requests brmflpt.dll may therefore be a Brother utility, scanner component, printer helper, or an installer left behind from an earlier installation.
This is not a Microsoft Windows system DLL, .NET file, DirectX component, or general-purpose Microsoft runtime. Do not expect Windows Update, Visual C++ Redistributable, or a Windows Features setting to restore it automatically.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the exact Brother package
A damaged or incomplete Brother installation is the most likely cause. This can happen after a failed USB or network installation, a driver update, manual deletion, disk cleanup, or an incomplete uninstall.
Before starting, identify the exact model printed on the Brother device. Do not rely only on a Windows printer name such as “Brother MFC.” The model number determines which driver and MFL-Pro package you need.
Remove Brother software through Brother Utilities
- Disconnect the USB cable from the printer if it is connected.
- Open Start.
- Select All apps.
- Open the Brother folder.
- Select Brother Utilities.
- Choose the affected Brother model.
- Select Tools.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal prompts.
- Restart Windows, even if the uninstaller does not require it.
Windows 10 uses the same general path: Start > All apps > Brother > Brother Utilities.
If Brother Utilities is unavailable, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10. Remove Brother MFL-Pro Suite, Brother Utilities, ControlCenter, scanner software, and model-specific Brother entries that clearly belong to the old installation. Restart afterward.

Install the correct package
- Open Brother’s official support and downloads site.
- Search for the exact printer or multifunction model.
- Select the installed Windows version.
- Download the current Full Driver & Software Package if it is offered.
- If a full package is unavailable, use the model-specific Printer Driver, Scanner Driver, or MFL-Pro Suite package provided for that device.
- Run the installer.
- Reconnect the USB cable only when the installer asks for it.
- For a network device, follow the installer’s discovery and connection instructions.
- Restart Windows when setup completes.
The correct result is more than a disappearing error message. Print a Windows test page, open the Brother printer utility, and test scanning if the device supports it. If printing works but scanning does not, install or repair the model-specific scanner component rather than copying brmflpt.dll manually.

Fix 2: Confirm that the package supports your Windows version
A Brother package made for an older Windows release may remain on a computer after an upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11. The old files can continue launching at startup even when the printer is no longer connected.
Check the exact model on Brother’s support site and look at the available downloads:
- If a current full package is offered, remove the old installation and use that package.
- If only separate printer and scanner drivers are offered, install those instead of forcing an old MFL-Pro Suite.
- If no package is offered for your Windows version, the device may not be supported on the current system.
- If the device works only with legacy software, replacing the device may be more reliable than repeatedly restoring one old DLL.
Do not substitute a package for a similar Brother model. Two devices can share a product family name while requiring different software.
Check Device Manager
Device Manager can show whether Windows sees a failed Brother component.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a Brother device with a warning icon.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab to review the provider and driver details.
If the device is clearly an abandoned Brother entry, right-click it and choose Uninstall device. If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you are removing the old Brother package, not a working device you still need. Restart, then run the correct Brother installer.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a Brother DLL. That does not automatically mean the detection is a false positive, so verify the file’s origin before restoring it.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand entries related to
brmflpt.dllor Brother software. - Read the detection name, file path, date, and action.
- If the file came from a trusted Brother installer and the installation is genuine, review the available restore or allow options.
- If the origin is unclear, leave it quarantined and reinstall the package from Brother’s official support site instead.
Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again. If the file is repeatedly quarantined, do not keep replacing it. Update Windows Security, scan the computer, and investigate the installer or package that keeps producing the detection.
A third-party antivirus program may have its own quarantine screen. Check that product’s history as well, then re-enable normal protection after any temporary installation troubleshooting.

brmflpt.dll is a third-party Brother file, so System File Checker is not normally the primary repair. Use DISM and SFC when Windows components are also failing, built-in tools crash, updates are damaged, or multiple unrelated system files report errors.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Brother installation.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. A successful scan means Windows found no remaining corruption or repaired protected Windows components. It does not prove that the Brother DLL has been restored. If the Brother error remains, return to the model-specific uninstall and reinstall procedure.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed is not useful. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan identifies, while repair requires the full version, but reinstalling the Brother application remains the definitive fix for an application-owned DLL.
Fix 5: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when brmflpt.dll worked recently and the failure began after a driver installation, Windows change, or software removal.
- Press Win+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can reverse drivers, system settings, installed programs, and system files without removing personal documents. It may not restore a third-party Brother package correctly, so after the restart you may still need to uninstall and reinstall the current Brother package.
If no suitable restore point exists, continue with a clean Brother installation instead of restoring an arbitrary older system state.
Fix 6: Understand the architecture and dependency error
Do not assume every copy of brmflpt.dll has the same architecture. Public file indexes contain conflicting historical records, and Brother’s public documentation does not establish one universal current build, size, path, or bitness for every model.

A 32-bit DLL cannot be loaded by a 64-bit process, and a 64-bit DLL cannot be loaded by a 32-bit process. Windows also handles System32 and SysWOW64 differently on 64-bit systems, so the folder name alone is not a safe guide.

The message “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that brmflpt.dll exists but one of its dependent files is missing. That is another reason a complete Brother installer is safer than manually copying the named file.
Check architecture through the Brother package and the application that launches it. Do not place a downloaded DLL into System32, SysWOW64, a DriverStore folder, or a Brother directory based on guesswork.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain ActiveX or COM components. It is not a general-purpose DLL repair command.
There is no verified evidence that brmflpt.dll is a self-registering ActiveX or COM DLL. Running commands such as these is therefore unlikely to repair the Brother installation:

If regsvr32 reports that the entry point is missing, that does not mean the file needs a different download. It means the command does not apply to that DLL. Remove the broken Brother package and reinstall the correct complete package instead.
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file missing its required dependencies. Even a clean file may not fix the application because the real problem is an incomplete Brother installation, a missing companion component, or an unsupported device.
Never copy brmflpt.dll into a Windows folder as a shortcut. Do not use a DLL from another Brother model. The safe source is Brother’s official support page for the exact model and Windows version.

If the error continues
Identify which program is requesting the file:
- Note the full error window title and message.
- Check whether it appears at Windows sign-in, when opening Brother Utilities, when printing, or when scanning.
- Open Task Manager and inspect startup entries for Brother software.
- Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for remaining Brother components.
- Remove the old package and repeat the official installation.
- If the message appears without any Brother software installed, run a full malware scan and review recent system changes.
If the DLL returns after deletion, that may simply be a Brother installer or startup component restoring it. If it is being detected by security software, do not assume the detection is incorrect. Verify the installer’s source and signature, then allow or restore the file only when its provenance is clear.

- Record the exact Brother model before changing drivers.
- Use Brother’s official model-specific download page.
- Let the installer choose the connection and destination.
- Disconnect USB devices until the installer requests them.
- Remove failed Brother installations before retrying.
- Keep Windows Security enabled after installation.
- Do not use registry cleaners or standalone DLL replacements.
- Check Brother support before upgrading Windows when the device depends on legacy MFL-Pro software.
- Keep a restore point before major driver changes.

Is brmflpt.dll a Windows file?

Usually not. It can create an architecture mismatch, leave dependencies missing, and make future driver repairs harder.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not merely because this DLL is missing. There is no established connection between brmflpt.dll and those runtimes. Install a runtime only when the actual error identifies it as a missing dependency.
Should I run regsvr32?
Generally no. It is intended for self-registering DLLs, and brmflpt.dll has not been established as one.
What if Brother no longer offers a Windows 11 package?
Install any supported separate printer or scanner drivers Brother provides. If no compatible package exists, the device may be dependent on unsupported legacy software and replacement may be the practical solution.
