BROK the InvestiGator is a detective adventure that asks you to investigate with clues and conversations, then lets you solve some problems with your fists. Its unusual blend of point-and-click adventure, beat ’em up combat, and RPG elements has earned favorable review snapshots, though critics have also noted friction between its systems. It is most appealing if you enjoy story-led investigations and can accept that the action and puzzles may not always feel seamless.
What kind of game is BROK the InvestiGator?
In BROK the InvestiGator, you play Brok, a private investigator and former boxer in a dystopian world where animals have replaced humans. The setting is divided between privileged residents sheltered beneath a dome from polluted air and people struggling to live outside it. Brok’s household includes Graff, the son of his deceased wife.

The game combines three main modes of play: point-and-click investigation, side-scrolling brawling, and RPG-style choices. Rather than keeping detective work and combat in separate games, it makes them different tools for moving through the story. Steam describes it as “An innovative adventure mixed with beat ’em up and RPG elements.”
How do investigation and combat work together?
Collect clues and question characters
Investigation sequences involve gathering clues, speaking with people, combining evidence, and drawing conclusions. Puzzles and dialogue therefore matter alongside fights: progression is not simply a matter of defeating every opponent.

- Introducing Joy-Con, controllers that make new kinds of gaming possible, for use with Nintendo Switch.
- The versatile Joy-Con offer multiple surprising new ways for players to have fun.
- Two Joy-Con can be used independently in each hand, or together as one game controller when attached to the Joy-Con grip.
- They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two-player action in supported games.
- Each Joy-Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyro-sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible.
Use combat when words are not enough
Brok’s boxing background gives the game a direct action component. The hybrid design is its main distinction, but it is also a potential drawback. Metacritic’s review excerpts show critics praising the ambition and the combination of adventure and brawling, while some reviewers said the systems do not always work smoothly together or that combat can feel messy. Those are critical impressions, not a guarantee of how every player will experience the game.
Get help when a puzzle stalls you
KeenGamer’s reviewer describes collectible advertisements that can be spent on hints, including more explicit guidance toward a solution. That can make a difficult puzzle less of a dead end, although it does not change the fact that some puzzles may be hard to parse.

What do reviews say about BROK the InvestiGator?
The reception shown by the available review pages is positive overall, but each score reflects a particular site and snapshot. Aggregator totals and storefront review counts are not interchangeable, and they can change over time.
| Source and snapshot | Displayed rating | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Metacritic, accessed 2026 | 79 Metascore from 6 critic reviews; 8.2 user score from 24 ratings | All-platform page snapshot; not a permanent rating. |
| Steam, accessed October 8, 2026 | 97% positive from 989 user reviews | Storefront user-review share and count at the time of the snapshot. |
| Steambase, September 2026 historical table | 97/100 from 1,294 total Steam reviews | A separate tracker snapshot labeled “Overwhelmingly Positive”; its count differs from Steam’s storefront snapshot. |
| MobyGames, accessed October 8, 2026 | 78% average from 6 ratings | Player rating average, not a critic-review count. |
Review excerpts capture both the appeal and the caveat. Adventure Gamers called the mix of point-and-click and beat ’em up play with a 90s cartoon aesthetic “a unique adventure game that should not be missed.” Destructoid wrote, “BROK the InvestiGator is very much an experiment, but it’s an experiment that works.” Noisy Pixel’s assessment was more qualified: “Brok the Investigator is a charming take on a classic genre, regardless if the systems don’t play nice with each other.” Metacritic’s excerpts also include criticism that the story starts slowly.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
The best fit depends on whether the combination sounds more appealing than awkward. Consider these features against your own preferences:
- Investigation: You want to collect evidence, question characters, and work through puzzles rather than play a combat-only adventure.
- Action: You are willing to engage with beat ’em up combat, even if its feel may be less polished or consistent than a dedicated action game.
- Story choices: You like choices that can affect gameplay or story and are interested in seeing different endings.
- Presentation: You enjoy a fully voiced, cartoon-styled adventure set against a darker dystopian backdrop.
RAWG lists two playable characters, choices, multiple distinct endings, full voice acting, and an estimated 15–20 hours for a first playthrough. Treat that duration as RAWG’s estimate, not a guaranteed completion time.

Is BROK the InvestiGator worth playing?
If you want a conventional point-and-click mystery or a tightly focused beat ’em up, the hybrid may be a compromise: critics have praised its ambition while flagging rough edges in how its systems fit together. If you are curious about a fully voiced detective story that alternates between evidence work and brawling, the positive reception suggests it is worth considering. The deciding question is whether you find that unusual mix inviting enough to tolerate some puzzle and combat friction.
