Choose by the whole system, not the CPU brand alone. Compare the delivered cost, graphics card and VRAM, memory capacity, SSD size, noise and thermals, upgrade path, motherboard connectivity, and the retailer’s return and warranty terms. The AMD list has twice the SSD capacity of the Intel list and uses DDR5 rather than DDR4; those are concrete differences, but they do not establish a universal performance advantage.

The processor listing needs particular care: the Intel build names a Core i5-12600KF, while the cited $179.97 listing is for a Core i5-12600K. They are not the same SKU, so do not treat that listing as the build’s confirmed processor cost. Likewise, the two MSI motherboard prices are not a like-for-like board comparison: their sockets and supported processors differ.
When to choose the AMD route

For a new AMD build, select an AM5 motherboard that supports the chosen Ryzen processor. GamersNexus’ example uses a Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus WiFi; TechRadar’s separate MSI PRO X870-P WiFi price is another AM5-board deal snapshot, not a drop-in price substitution without checking features, fit and current availability. When to choose the Intel route

If you are weighing the listed RX 9060 XT 16GB alternative against the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, the stated tradeoff is an approximately $100 upgrade for more VRAM. The sources provided do not include a common benchmark comparison, so use game-specific tests from a consistent source if frame rates are decisive for you. More VRAM alone does not prove which card is faster in every game or at every setting.
How to avoid incompatible parts
Platform and form-factor checks matter more than matching a deal headline. In particular, an AM5 Ryzen processor cannot be installed in an Intel B760 motherboard, and an LGA1700 Intel processor cannot be installed in an X870 motherboard.

Should you buy a prebuilt instead?
The PC Gamer roundup illustrates the prebuilt tradeoff: its listed systems combine different CPUs and graphics cards, but both have 16GB DDR5. Compare that memory capacity with the 32GB in both custom-build lists, and check whether the prebuilt’s memory can be upgraded, how many slots are occupied, and what the warranty covers. Those details are not established by the cited roundup figures, so verify them on the specific system’s listing before purchase.
A prebuilt can make sense if its delivered price, support and warranty are preferable to sourcing compatible parts and assembling them yourself. Do not infer that the system with the higher-tier GPU is automatically the better buy: assess memory, storage, cooling, power supply details and upgrade limits alongside the graphics card.
