What the 88,337 figure does—and does not—measure
It is the highest recorded number of people playing simultaneously on Steam, not a live player count. It does not establish total sales, the number of unique players over time, activity on PlayStation or Xbox, or why players did or did not play. It also cannot show that review timing caused the peak or affected later activity.
How to read Marathon’s review indicators
Steam’s storefront showed 36,410 English-language user reviews with 84% positive, alongside 408 recent user reviews with 65% positive, when accessed on October 8, 2026. In an official update on September 21, 2026, Bungie said Marathon had not reached as many players as hoped and outlined plans to evolve it toward a deeper survival experience, with PvE, PvP, and PvPvE options.
