Borderlands 4 Launch Features: What Was Missing—and What Changed

At its September 12, 2025 launch, Borderlands 4 had cross-play and console split-screen, but console players did not yet have a field-of-view slider. Photo Mode and Shared Character Progression also arrived later. Several of those gaps were filled in subsequent updates, so the answer depends on whether you mean launch day or the game’s later feature set.

What Borderlands 4 had at launch

Borderlands 4 launched worldwide on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, according to the 2K launch announcement.

• Cross-play: Available at launch. The official cross-play support guide covers the supported connections; online co-op requires a SHiFT account.
• Split-screen: The same support guide describes split-screen on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The cited material does not establish split-screen support on PC.
• Console field-of-view slider: Not available at launch; it was added in a post-launch update.
• Photo Mode: Added in January 2026, so it was not available at launch.
• Shared Character Progression: Added in March 2026, so it was not available at launch.

What arrived after launch

Cross-platform saves: later status is not established here

Official Borderlands material from November 2025 and January 2026 described cross-platform saves as planned or forthcoming. Those statements establish roadmap intent at those dates, not whether the feature later shipped. The available official material does not confirm its status as of October 8, 2026, so it should not be described as still missing without a newer confirmation.

Other settings and restrictions to know

Do not confuse a missing launch feature with a bug or a platform-specific setting. The official accessibility guide says console motion blur may be controlled through TV or monitor settings; it does not establish a game-level console motion-blur toggle or a later patch adding one.
