But that does not mean PS5 owners can use it as a finished jailbreak: the project describes the release as a developer-focused base exploit, includes no HEN or other patches, and assumes an existing kernel exploit chain and ELF loader.
What Byepervisor Reborn does—and what it does not do
The PS5Dev project README describes Byepervisor Reborn as a “PS5 hypervisor exploit for 6.xx – 13.60 firmware.” That is the project’s own description, not independent verification that every version in that range is supported. The README specifically marks 13.60 and 13.20 as fully supported, while 13.00 is untested.

At a high level, the project targets a vulnerability in the console’s rest-mode resume path. According to the README, during S3 resume a startup_mp hypercall initializes other processor cores while an insecure nested page table configuration is applied. The project says this can be abused to run shellcode with read/write access to hypervisor address space, including VM Control Blocks.

That describes a foundation for further development—not a consumer feature already packaged for use. The repository does not include HEN, other patches, Linux support, game-package support, or another finished user-facing capability.

Why it is not a ready-made jailbreak
The project README is explicit: “It is not useful to regular users in its current release state, this is intended for developers.” It calls the release a base exploit to build on. In practical terms, the documented workflow expects other pieces to be in place before Byepervisor Reborn is used: a kernel exploit chain must already have reached an ELF loader, and the loader must continue execution after the console resumes from rest mode.
So the exploit itself is not a one-step installation process. Hypervisor access may enable developers to investigate or build additional software, but it does not establish that a finished jailbreak, Linux installation, or support for running other software is included.

Firmware and console compatibility
| Firmware or model detail | What the project documents |
|---|---|
| 13.60 | Listed as fully supported by the project README. |
| 13.20 | Listed as fully supported by the project README. |
| 13.00 | Marked untested. |
| Below the listed versions | The README says lower versions may technically be exploitable, but would need additions and could require more extensive changes if required gadgets are absent. |
| 14.00 | Not listed as supported. The README says it might work with modifications, but does not provide them; it also says there is no public 14.00 kernel exploit in the context described by the project. |
| PS5 Pro | The README and source describe model-specific hypervisor-loader address handling. The payload checks the main SoC ID and selects the corresponding address range. |
Model detection is not the same thing as firmware support: the project’s separate address handling for regular and Pro consoles does not make every firmware version compatible. Check the project’s current documentation for both your firmware and console model before drawing conclusions.
How the documented exploit path works
The published procedure is for developers working with an existing exploit chain, not for owners starting from an ordinary console. At a high level, it depends on these stages:
Rank #3
- Enjoy smooth and fluid high frame rate gameplay at up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.
- PS5 consoles support an 8K output, so you can play games on your 4320p resolution display.
- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
- A kernel exploit chain has already reached an ELF loader.
- The loader sends
byepervisor.elfand follows the project’s notifications. - The console enters and resumes from rest mode, using the resume path targeted by the exploit.
- The payload continues through the ELF loader after resume; the project says this path can provide shellcode access to hypervisor address space.
The README notes that the console’s rest-mode setting may need to be configured to keep USB powered: Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Supply Power to USB Ports > Always. This setting supports the documented rest-mode flow; it does not replace the required kernel exploit chain or ELF loader.
How strong are the stability claims?
The repository calls the exploit “99.9% stable,” but the reviewed project material does not provide a test sample, methodology, or independent validation for that figure. Treat it as the developers’ claim, not as a measured success rate or a guarantee that the exploit will work on a particular console.

The project says the vulnerability was initially found by theflow0 and later investigated by others with assistance from LLMs. That account, like the compatibility and stability statements, is project documentation rather than independent verification of the release’s behavior.
What PS5 owners should take away
- If your console is on firmware 13.60 or 13.20, those are the versions the README calls fully supported.
- If you are looking for a turnkey jailbreak or a way to install Linux or run other software, the current release does not provide that.
- The documented route assumes a kernel exploit chain and ELF loader are already available, and it relies on rest-mode resume.
- For 13.00, lower firmware, or 14.00, do not treat the project’s conditional or untested statements as supported releases.
The primary reference is the Byepervisor Reborn repository; model-specific address handling is visible in the project source. Firmware support and release details can change as the project evolves.
