How Richtofen returns in Black Ops 6
Activision and Blizzard’s official Zombies recap places the reveal after Requiem’s conflict with the Dark Aether. The team closed the last remaining dimensional portal, and Samantha Maxis sacrificed herself to seal the Dark Aether from within. Requiem’s senior staff were then arrested on the orders of the Project Director.

The recap identifies that director as Edward Richtofen: “Worse was to follow, as Requiem’s senior staff members were unceremoniously arrested on the orders of the Project Director—finally revealed to be none other than Edward Richtofen.”
What happens to Requiem after the arrest
The next Zombies story takes place “over half a decade later” and continues the Dark Aether storyline. Former Requiem staff are imprisoned at Terminus, an outpost in the Philippine Sea. The official recap names Grigori Weaver, Mackenzie “Mac” Carver, Elizabeth Grey, Oskar Strauss, and Stoney Maddox (Raptor One) among those held there.

The story is framed around the characters’ fortunes and Richtofen’s motivations and goals. The official recap sets up those questions but does not disclose his full motives or the eventual resolution.
Richtofen’s return is a Zombies story, not the campaign premise
Black Ops 6 has three modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Round-Based Zombies. Its campaign is a separate spy thriller following Black Ops Cold War, set in the early 1990s amid political upheaval around the Gulf War; Frank Woods is its narrative through-line. Richtofen’s return instead belongs to Zombies and its ongoing Dark Aether story. The distinction is outlined in the publisher’s official reveal.

Where the Zombies story takes place
The launch announcement named two new Round-Based Zombies maps:
- Terminus: The Philippine Sea outpost where the former Requiem staff are imprisoned.
- Liberty Falls: The other new Round-Based Zombies map announced for launch.
How to access Black Ops 6
Activision lists Black Ops 6 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and PC storefronts, as well as Game Pass access. Physical console editions vary by platform and generation. Activision’s editions guide says physical copies are not compatible with Xbox Series S or a digital-only PS5; check the console and current retailer listing before buying a disc.

The same support guide says the game uses texture streaming and requires a continuous internet connection for every mode, including Campaign. Console Campaign does not require a premium subscription service such as Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus, according to Activision’s guide. Game Pass tiers and availability can change, so confirm current subscription terms before choosing that route.
