Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is at its best in its campaign: the available Digital Trends review synopsis describes it as a return to the franchise’s spectacle and intrigue. Its multiplayer is more uneven, though the synopsis says it makes worthwhile steps forward. That makes this a three-mode package with a clearer strength than a single, across-the-board verdict would suggest.
Is the Black Ops 6 campaign good?
The campaign is the defining strength of Black Ops 6 in the available review summary. Digital Trends reviewer Billy Givens characterized it as recalling the series’ spectacle and intrigue. The review is dated October 30, 2024, but its page could not be retrieved; a score, detailed criticisms, playtime, and test platform therefore cannot be established from the available account.
Activision sets the story in the early 1990s, amid the Gulf War era and the political upheaval after the Cold War. Frank Woods and Troy Marshall are suspended after an operation goes wrong and assemble a rogue team. Russell Adler returns, with his loyalties uncertain. The publisher’s premise points to spy activity, heists, and action set pieces; those are setup and feature descriptions, not independent assessments of how well each element works.
The campaign also has a safehouse, an evidence board, mission difficulty selection, and mission rewards. Activision says some campaign rewards unlock items for Multiplayer and Zombies, giving the story mode a progression link to the rest of the package.

#1 Best Overall
- Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower.
- This is signature Black Ops across a cinematic single-player Campaign, a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, and the epic return of Round-Based Zombies.
- The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
- In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
- Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
Is Black Ops 6 worth buying for multiplayer?
The available review synopsis is less enthusiastic about Multiplayer than the campaign: it calls the mode flawed while noting worthwhile steps forward. It does not identify the specific flaws, so there is not enough evidence here to make a more detailed claim about balance, matchmaking, or map quality.
Activision listed 16 maps at launch in 2024: 12 core maps for 6v6 and four Strike maps playable in 2v2 or 6v6. The official store describes seasonal map additions and the Omnimovement system. These are launch and publisher feature details, not a count of the game’s current map pool.

- PRE-ORDER BONUS — Pre-order and unlock the Hunter Killer Operator Skin and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack.*
- GLOBE‑SPANNING CAMPAIGN — Fight across the Korean Peninsula, New York, Paris, and Mumbai in a high‑stakes narrative where global conflict escalates and survival depends on tactical precision.
- MULTIPLAYER BUILT ON CONTROL — Engage in grounded, precise combat where fluid movement, player choice, and refined mechanics give you greater control in every firefight.
- TACTICAL DMZ OPERATIONS — Deploy behind enemy lines as an off‑the‑books asset, making high‑risk decisions on objectives and extraction in a dynamic mode where every run counts.
Multiplayer makes the most sense for someone seeking repeatable competitive matches rather than a campaign-led, self-contained experience. The review summary supports a qualified recommendation: it sees progress, but not a mode as consistently strong as the campaign.
Does Black Ops 6 have round-based Zombies?
Yes. Black Ops 6 launched with round-based Zombies and two maps, according to Activision’s 2024 product information. The official store later described seasonal additions including Directed Mode and Grief. Those details establish that Zombies is a substantial part of the package, though they do not confirm which content or modes are available in a particular current build.

Choose Zombies if cooperative, round-based survival is more appealing than competitive matches. It sits alongside the campaign and Multiplayer as a distinct way to play, rather than being a substitute for the story mode.

Platforms and online requirements
Activision lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Microsoft PC Store, Steam, and Battle.net. Its platform information also lists Game Pass, subject to an active subscription and the applicable plan. A listing does not establish current subscription inclusion, price, stock, or a specific physical edition, so verify the platform and edition on the seller’s page before purchasing.

The Call of Duty Store says an internet connection and Activision account are required; linking a mobile number may also be required. If you are choosing a console version, check the exact platform edition rather than assuming a listing for one PlayStation or Xbox generation includes another.
PC storage and progression
The store’s launch-era product information listed 149 GB of SSD space, or 78 GB if COD HQ and Warzone were already installed. These are historical launch figures, not a promise about the current download size. Check the current store listing and available drive space before installing; the store’s PC system requirements can also change.

How does Black Ops 6 compare across its three modes?
| Mode | What it offers | What the available evidence says |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Early-1990s spy-action story, safehouse, evidence board, difficulty choices, and mission rewards | The clearest strength in the Digital Trends review synopsis; detailed evaluation and score are unavailable. |
| Multiplayer | Competitive matches; 16 maps at launch in 2024, comprising 12 core 6v6 maps and four Strike maps for 2v2 or 6v6 | The review synopsis describes it as flawed but making worthwhile steps forward. The launch map count is from Activision. |
| Zombies | Round-based survival; two maps at launch in 2024 | Confirmed as a launch mode by Activision. The count is historical, not a current map total. |
Verdict
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is easiest to recommend to players drawn by its campaign, which the available review synopsis singles out as the high point. Multiplayer makes a less certain case: it reportedly improves in some respects but remains flawed. Zombies adds a separate round-based option, making this a broader package than a campaign-only shooter. Whether that breadth is worth it depends on which mode you expect to play most.
