Best Aim Assist Settings for Black Ops 6: A Practical Starting Point

There is no official best aim-assist preset for Black Ops 6. Start with equal sensitivity, default 1.00 multipliers, controller-specific deadzones, and one-at-a-time practice adjustments.

There is no officially endorsed “best” aim-assist preset or sensitivity number for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Start with equal horizontal and vertical sensitivity, leave sensitivity multipliers at 1.00, tune deadzones to your controller, and test one change at a time in the Training Course or Firing Range. Activision’s guidance is straightforward: “The best sensitivity setting is the one that works for you.”

Recommended starting settings

Use these as a baseline, not a universal competitive setup. Activision’s Black Ops 6 Controls & Settings guide explains the adjustable controller options but does not nominate a best numerical sensitivity or aim-assist preset.

Setting Starting point What to do next
Horizontal and vertical stick sensitivity Set both to the same comfortable value; no specific number is endorsed by the official guides. Adjust after practice if turning or recoil control feels uncomfortable.
Sensitivity multipliers Leave at 1.00 initially. Activision identifies 1.00 as the default. Change a multiplier only if a particular zoom level or weapon transition feels wrong.
Left and right stick deadzones Set each for your controller’s actual drift and responsiveness. Raise a deadzone if the stick moves without your input; lower it if you need too much stick travel before movement registers.
Aim response curve Keep the option you are already comfortable using; official BO6 guidance reviewed here does not identify a winning curve. Test another curve only as a change to how stick movement maps to view movement, not as a way to increase aim assist.

What aim assist, sensitivity, and response curve each do

Aim assist

Aim assist is assistance applied by the game while aiming. The official Black Ops 6 material cited here does not substantiate one aim-assist option as the best choice, so there is no evidence-based preset to recommend as a universal winner.

Aim sensitivity

Sensitivity controls how quickly your view turns in response to stick input. Horizontal and vertical sensitivity can be adjusted separately. Starting with them equal gives you a simple baseline; if you later change one, assess that axis on its own.

Aim response curve

The response curve changes how stick movement translates into view movement. Standard, Linear, and Dynamic are alternatives to compare based on how they feel to you; the official sources reviewed do not establish a best curve. Curve selection is not an aim-assist setting and should not be described as making aim assist stronger.

How to tune your settings

  1. Open the Controller settings. Find horizontal and vertical stick sensitivity and set them to the same comfortable baseline. The official Controls & Settings guide describes these as separate adjustments but does not prescribe a number.
  2. Leave sensitivity multipliers at 1.00. This is the default cited by Activision. Only adjust a specific multiplier if aiming at that zoom level or switching weapons feels wrong.
  3. Check each stick’s deadzone. Watch for unwanted movement when you are not touching the stick. Increase the affected deadzone enough to stop it, then check whether the control still responds comfortably. Activision notes that deadzone adjustment is particularly important with older controllers.
  4. Practice before changing another setting. Use the Training Course or Firing Range to work on movement, weapons, and settings; Activision’s COD 101 beginner guide recommends these practice facilities.
  5. Change one setting at a time. Repeat the same kind of aiming or movement practice after a change so you can tell whether that specific adjustment helped.

Diagnose the problem before changing aim settings

When aiming feels off, identify the symptom first. A drifting reticle or unwanted movement points toward deadzone or controller behavior. A view that turns too quickly or slowly points toward sensitivity. Difficulty managing weapon kick is a recoil-control issue to assess separately. If the concern is target slowdown or other in-game assistance, do not assume that changing sensitivity or response curve changes aim-assist strength.

What the official guidance does—and does not—establish

Activision’s Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Training — Movement guide says, “The best sensitivity setting is the one that works for you.” Its guidance supports individual tuning, not a fixed number for every player. The Controls & Settings guide also says, “Adjusting the Deadzone Inputs is very important, especially for older controllers.”

Activision’s November 2025 Black Ops 7 Preseason Patch Notes discuss rotational aim-assist tuning for that later game. Those notes are not evidence for a best Black Ops 6 setting and should not be used to infer one.
