What records did Black Ops 6 set?
On Microsoft’s October 30, 2024, FY25 first-quarter earnings call, Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella called Black Ops 6 the “biggest Call of Duty release ever” and said it set a record for day-one players and Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. Microsoft CFO Amy Hood separately said the launch brought the most Game Pass subscriber additions the company had ever seen on a launch day. Neither executive gave an absolute number of players or subscribers, so the public statements establish the records as Microsoft described them, not their underlying totals.
What did Microsoft say about sales?
Nadella said unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were up more than 60% year over year. That figure compares sales with the same period a year earlier; it does not reveal how many copies sold, and it is distinct from the day-one player record. The statement named PlayStation and Steam rather than providing a combined sales breakdown across every platform and access route.

On its January 29, 2025, FY25 second-quarter earnings call, Microsoft said Black Ops 6 had more players in its launch quarter than any other paid Call of Duty release in franchise history. Microsoft also reported that the game was the top-selling title on Xbox and PlayStation that quarter. The launch-day and launch-quarter statements describe different time windows and comparisons. The first concerns day-one players and Game Pass sign-ups; the later claim compares launch-quarter players with other paid Call of Duty releases. They should not be treated as one measurement or as a disclosed all-time player total.

Why platform and access route matter
Activision lists Black Ops 6’s release date as October 25, 2024, and names Treyarch and Raven Software as its developers. Its listed platforms are PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Microsoft PC Store, Steam, and Battle.net, with access also available through Game Pass. That mix matters when interpreting a “player” record: access was not limited to people who bought a copy. Activision’s June 2024 editions guide described launch access through select Game Pass plans, as well as physical PlayStation 5 and physical cross-generation console editions. Its plan and online-multiplayer terms were launch-era details; check current platform and subscription terms rather than assuming those arrangements remain unchanged.
