Short answer: Call of Duty has offered a named Casual mode in Warzone, but the official materials cited here do not establish a dedicated public Casual playlist for core multiplayer as live on October 8, 2026. Activision says skill is one of several matchmaking factors in core multiplayer and explains why it has been cautious about a public playlist that removes skill from matchmaking. That is the publisher’s rationale—not proof that every player finds current matchmaking fair or enjoyable.
“Casual” means something different in Warzone
Warzone’s Battle Royale Casual was announced as a lower-stress step toward traditional, player-only Battle Royale. In the Season 03 announcement, Activision described a match with 28 players and 120 bots; those are the announced figures for that mode at that time, not a guarantee of its current composition. The mode keeps the survival format while using bots to make the experience less demanding for players moving toward standard Battle Royale. Activision’s Warzone Season 03 patch notes.
Bootcamp is for practice
Activision described Bootcamp as a training mode with up to 20 players and 24 bots, and said it would not affect stats. Casual Battle Royale was presented as a closer step to the standard survival experience, rather than simply a practice lobby. Neither description makes the modes interchangeable with a public core-multiplayer playlist that matches players against other players. Warzone Season 03 patch notes.
Why hasn’t core multiplayer simply removed skill from matchmaking?
Activision says skill is one of multiple factors used in core multiplayer matchmaking. Its stated aim is to let players across a broad range of ability contribute meaningfully. The publisher has also addressed the specific idea of a single core-multiplayer playlist that does not use skill as a matchmaking factor: its historical tests suggested low- and mid-skill players tended not to join such a playlist, potentially leaving it populated mainly by high-skill players.

Activision’s explanation is that “As a match can only be created from players actively searching for a playlist, the likely result would be matches composed solely of high-skill players.” It also notes that “Players can only match with and against who is online, regardless of any system designed to form lobbies.” These are the publisher’s descriptions of its system and past testing, not an independent assessment of how fair a particular match feels. What lower-pressure multiplayer options are documented?
Official Black Ops 7 materials list modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, Gunfight, Control and Overload. These offer different match objectives and formats, but a mode list is not the same thing as a dedicated casual matchmaking queue; the source does not say those modes are all casual or establish the live playlist rotation on October 8, 2026.

Private Match gives you control, not open matchmaking
Activision describes Private Match this way: “Invite your friends, add bots, and customize the rules of your favorite Multiplayer modes in Private Match.” It is useful for exploring a map, practicing, or setting up a lower-pressure session with friends. But because you control who joins and can add bots, it does not answer the request for an open public playlist with casual matchmaking. Black Ops 7 Multiplayer overview.
Does Warzone’s Casual test suggest a multiplayer queue would work?
It suggests that some players were interested in a Warzone casual format, but it cannot settle the core-multiplayer question. In its report on the Black Ops 6 Season 04 Reloaded Warzone test, Activision said three times more players entered Casual Solos than standard Solos. This was a publisher-reported comparison from a test in which standard Solos was removed during the initial comparison—not an independent study, and not a result for core multiplayer. Activision also reported improvements in queue time, ping stability and other matchmaking metrics, without publishing a figure here that would justify quantifying those changes. Warzone’s test involved a different game mode and player pool. It is evidence that Casual Solos attracted players in that setting, not proof that a similar public queue in team-based core multiplayer would draw a balanced mix or improve match quality.

The official sources cited here describe particular mode announcements, matchmaking policy and Black Ops 7’s mode options; they do not verify the exact live core-multiplayer playlist lineup on October 8, 2026. Check the in-game multiplayer playlist menu or the latest official playlist announcement before treating any named Casual playlist as currently available. The important distinction is that Warzone’s Casual is a named Battle Royale mode, while core multiplayer’s playlist availability and its matchmaking policy are separate questions.
