The accumulated standings then determine postseason qualification and positioning for the July championship tournament.
There are 12 CDL teams, and the 2026 game is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The season ran from December 5, 2025, through the July 16–19, 2026 postseason. Understanding the difference between a qualifier, a Major seed, CDL Points and a playoff bracket is the key to following the competition.

How the 2026 CDL format works
A CDL season has two connected layers. The first is the regular-season and Major cycle, where online qualifiers lead into tournament brackets and teams build their standings totals. The second is the postseason, where those standings determine who enters the championship bracket and where each team starts.

| Season block | Dates shown by the league | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Season | December 5–June 28 | The full competitive period used to organize qualifiers, Majors and standings. |
| Major I | December 5–February 1 | The first qualifier-and-tournament cycle. |
| Major II | February 13–March 29 | The second cycle. |
| Major III | April 17–May 17 | The third cycle. |
| Major IV | May 29–June 28 | The final regular-season cycle. |
| Post Season | July 16–19 | The championship bracket and grand final. |
These blocks overlap in purpose rather than forming six separate leagues. The four Major windows sit inside the regular season; the July postseason follows them. A useful shorthand is qualify, seed, play the Major, bank points, repeat.
What happens during a Major cycle?
Each Major cycle starts online. Qualifying matches determine the order or seeding used for the tournament portion. The Major IV schedule makes the progression especially clear: an online qualifier is followed by a minor bracket and then the Major bracket.
1. Online qualifying matches
Teams play the scheduled qualifier matches remotely. These games are not merely warm-up contests: their results establish seeding for the LAN tournament. A better seed can affect the opening opponent and the route through the bracket, so a qualifier result has value even before a team reaches the Major venue.
The official format material confirms that qualifying weeks are the mechanism for determining Major LAN seeding. It does not publish one universal match count or one identical qualifier layout for every Major in searchable text, so the event page for the specific Major is the authority for its dates and match structure.
2. Minor or play-in stage
After qualifying, the schedule can include a minor bracket. In the 2026 Major IV schedule, the minor sits between the online qualifier and the Major bracket. Treat it as a bridge into the main event rather than as a replacement for the Major: teams still need to navigate the listed bracket to reach the headline tournament.

Because the league’s public schedule identifies the stage but does not provide a single season-wide template with every field in searchable text, do not assume that the minor has the same size, match count or advancement rule at every Major. Check the event’s official bracket when those details matter.
3. Major LAN bracket
The Major is the LAN tournament at the end of the cycle. The league describes the 2026 season as four Major tournaments in which all 12 CDL teams compete. The qualifier and minor stages determine how those teams are placed or advanced into the Major bracket; the event then awards tournament results and contributes to the season standings.

A Major seed, a match win and a team’s cumulative CDL Point total are related, but they are not interchangeable statistics.
How the four Majors fit together
The same broad pipeline repeats four times, but individual event pages can differ in their detailed schedule. These are the comparison points that matter:
| Comparison point | What is established for 2026 | What to verify for a specific Major |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifier | Online qualifying matches establish LAN seeding. | Exact length, match order and any event-specific format. |
| Minor or play-in | The Major IV schedule shows a minor bracket between qualifier and Major. | Whether a minor is used, its bracket size and advancement rules. |
| Main tournament | A Major LAN bracket is the cycle’s principal event, with all 12 teams represented in the league’s season description. | Bracket layout, opening pairings and match schedule. |
| Points | Qualifier and Major results feed the standings. | Placement-by-placement numeric awards on the live standings or event interface. |
This distinction prevents a common mistake: treating every Major as if it had a published, identical bracket template. The season-level description establishes four events and the qualifier-to-Major concept; the event page supplies the operational details.

What CDL Points mean
CDL Points are the currency of the season standings. Results in qualifying and Major competition add to a team’s accumulated total. The official standings page separates regular-season and Major stages while carrying each team’s total forward. Those totals rank teams for postseason qualification and seeding.

What points are used for
- Ranking teams: the standings order teams by their accumulated totals.
- Determining postseason access: the rankings are used to decide which teams qualify for the July championship phase.
- Shaping postseason position: a higher standing can place a team in a more favorable starting route or seed, subject to the published postseason bracket.
- Measuring season performance: points combine performance across multiple cycles instead of judging a team on one Major alone.
What points do not tell you by themselves
- A point total is not the same as a Major seed. Seeding is set within a particular cycle, while points accumulate across the season.
- Points do not describe a team’s current match record or its map-mode strengths.
- A standings position does not reveal the exact path a team must take in a bracket until the postseason draw is published.
The searchable official pages do not expose a complete placement-by-placement numeric award chart. For that reason, an exact table of points for every finish should be taken from the live standings interface rather than copied from an unsourced graphic. The 2027 league announcement, published October 14, 2026, says: “CDL Points up for grabs throughout the season are in-line with the points awarded in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.” That confirms continuity of the points approach, but it is not a substitute for the current event’s official award rows.
How teams qualify for the CDL postseason
Qualification is a standings process, not a single knockout match. Teams accumulate points through the regular-season and Major stages, and the final rankings determine the postseason field and its placement. Since the public format information does not state a universal points cutoff or a complete numeric allocation table, a reader should use the final live standings to identify the exact qualifying line for a given year.
- Follow all four Major cycles. Record each team’s results in qualifiers, minor stages and Major brackets.
- Check the cumulative standings after the final Major. The total, rather than one isolated event finish, is the relevant qualification measure.
- Read the published postseason bracket. The bracket converts standings into a winners-side or elimination-side route and identifies opening opponents.
- Separate qualification from winning Champs. Making the postseason only earns a place in the championship tournament; a team must survive the bracket to win the title.
This system rewards sustained performance. A team can recover from a poor early Major with later points, while a single excellent event does not automatically settle the season if its overall total leaves it outside the postseason field.
The 2026 playoff and championship bracket
The 2026 Playoffs/Championship took place in Las Vegas from July 16 through July 19. The published schedule lists a double-elimination-style progression:

- Winners Round 2
- Elimination Round 2

How the two paths work
A team that wins on the winners side continues there. Its first loss does not end its tournament; it drops into the elimination path and receives a second life. A second loss eliminates the team. The winners final sends one team directly toward the grand final, while the elimination rounds determine which remaining team can challenge it.
The completed 2026 bracket records Vegas FaZe defeating OpTic Texas 5–2 in the grand final. That result illustrates why the bracket route matters: teams are not simply ranked by total wins, because a loss on the winners side and a loss in elimination have different consequences.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Best-of-seven match format and map order
Championship matches use a Best-of-7 sequence documented in the league’s competitive settings. The mode order is fixed as follows:
| Game | Mode |
|---|---|
| 1 | Hardpoint |
| 2 | Search and Destroy |
| 3 | Overload |
| 4 | Hardpoint |
| 5 | Search and Destroy |
| 6 | Overload |
| 7 | Search and Destroy |
The first team to win four games wins the series, so Game 7 is only played when the score reaches 3–3. The order creates repeated tests of each mode rather than a one-time rotation: Hardpoint appears in Games 1 and 4, Search and Destroy in Games 2, 5 and 7, and Overload in Games 3 and 6.
Seeds, Team A and Team B
The competitive-settings document also describes seed-based Team A and Team B selection and map vetoes. That means the bracket seed is not cosmetic. It is connected to the pre-match process that assigns sides or selection order and determines which maps are removed before the series begins.

To analyze a match properly, keep three questions separate:
- Bracket route: did the team arrive through the winners path or the elimination path?
- Veto and map-mode profile: which maps and modes survived the selection process, and where is each roster strongest?
- Season standing: how many CDL Points did the team carry into the postseason?
A team can have a favorable point total but a difficult veto, or a strong Search and Destroy record but a disadvantageous bracket route. These are different competitive variables.
How to follow a CDL season without getting lost
- Start with the standings page. Note the current point totals and the stage label attached to each result.
- Open the event schedule. Confirm whether you are looking at a qualifier, minor bracket or Major bracket.
- Check the seed before interpreting a matchup. Seed determines more than the headline pairing; it feeds the Team A/Team B and veto process.
- Use the Best-of-7 order when watching a series. Track Hardpoint, Search and Destroy and Overload separately instead of treating a 4–2 score as a complete explanation.
- After Major IV, switch from event coverage to postseason coverage. The final standings and published July bracket answer who qualified and where each team starts.
Common format mistakes
Confusing a qualifier with a Major
A qualifier is an online stage used to establish seeding; the Major is the LAN tournament that follows the cycle. A qualifier win can improve a team’s entry position without being the same achievement as winning the Major.
Assuming points are a live match score
CDL Points are cumulative standings currency. They do not replace the series score, map record or bracket result shown for an individual match.
Assuming every event has identical minor rules
The 2026 Major IV schedule confirms a qualifier-to-minor-to-Major sequence, but event-specific pages should be consulted for the exact bracket and schedule. Do not infer an unstated match count or points table.
Calling the postseason single elimination
The listed winners and elimination rounds form a double-elimination-style bracket. One loss can send a team to elimination; a second loss ends its run.
The format in practical terms
For 2026, the complete picture is: 12 teams play four Major cycles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7; online qualifiers establish Major seeding; minor and LAN brackets complete each event; results add CDL Points to the standings; the final rankings feed the July 16–19 postseason; and the championship uses winners and elimination rounds before a Best-of-7 grand final. The exact point awards and any event-specific bracket details belong to the live official standings and schedule for that stage.
