Short answer: A weapon blueprint in Call of Duty: Mobile is a themed variant of an existing base weapon, not a separate gun with its own progression. The blueprint changes the weapon’s appearance and may supply a curated starting setup, but the attachments you actually equip determine its stats and behavior. Weapon level progression is shared: the base weapon becomes the highest level reached by any owned variant.
Epic blueprints arrive with four pre-configured attachments and Legendary blueprints with five, according to Activision’s August 11, 2020 Gunsmith explanation. You can replace those parts in Gunsmith. A replacement may not inherit the blueprint’s visual treatment, yet its gameplay effects still apply. Multiplayer loadouts use this blueprint-and-Gunsmith model; Battle Royale’s separate ground-loot rules should not be used to infer that blueprints are different weapons.

Owning a blueprint does not create a second weapon-level ladder. If you level one variant, that progress benefits the shared base weapon. Activision’s rule is that the base weapon becomes the highest level of any variant you own, so you do not have to level each visual version separately.

Variant rarity and blueprint terminology
Uncommon and rare variants are still variants of the same gun. The blueprint label is most relevant to Epic and Legendary versions, which ship with the more elaborate camo and curated attachment presentation. Rarity describes the variant’s presentation; it does not turn the gun into a separate mechanical platform.

What changes when you equip a blueprint
The visual identity
The most obvious change is the weapon’s look. Blueprints add their own camo, and Epic or Legendary examples may add animated or otherwise dynamic finishes, death effects and other visual elements. Those effects belong to the blueprint presentation rather than to a new underlying weapon.
A blueprint can also give individual parts a visual treatment. The receiver, barrel, magazine or other visible components may be styled to match the theme. That styling is separate from the part’s mechanical function, which is why changing a part can produce an apparently mixed result: the weapon may keep some blueprint decoration while showing a replacement component in a standard look.

The curated starting setup
Activision’s Gunsmith guide specifies four pre-configured attachments for an Epic blueprint and five for a Legendary blueprint. These are curated starting configurations, not a promise that the weapon has unique attachment slots or a hidden fifth category. The guide presents them as attachments that can be obtained through normal weapon leveling.
The practical difference is that the blueprint opens with a designer-selected combination. You can keep that combination, replace individual parts, or rebuild the weapon around a different role. The blueprint’s label does not prevent experimentation.

How to change blueprint attachments
Use the Multiplayer loadout’s Gunsmith controls to inspect and edit a blueprint just as you would the corresponding base weapon. Activision’s Multiplayer support documentation describes editing primary and secondary weapons, optics, attachments, perks and equipment from loadouts.
- Open the Multiplayer loadout screen.
- Select the primary or secondary weapon slot that contains the blueprint.
- Open Gunsmith or the weapon-customization view.
- Review the pre-configured parts and choose the attachment category you want to change.
- Select a replacement, confirm the build and save the loadout.
- Check the displayed attributes and then test the weapon in the mode where you intend to use it.
Gunsmith lists categories including optic, laser, muzzle, barrel, underbarrel, ammunition, rear grip, stock and perk. Activision’s 2020 explanation describes nine attachment categories and allows up to five unique attachments equipped at one time. A particular weapon may not use every category, so the categories shown for your gun are the ones that matter.
Why a replacement can look wrong but still work
Some blueprints do not visually show every attachment change. Activision explicitly warns that a blueprint may retain its original visual treatment even after you swap a part. That is a presentation limitation, not evidence that the old part is still active.
The selected attachment remains mechanically authoritative. If you equip a different muzzle, magazine or barrel, the weapon’s stats and behavior reflect that choice even when the model does not clearly display the new component.
How attachments affect stats and handling
The blueprint itself is not the source of a permanent performance bonus in the official explanation. The resulting weapon is governed by the attachments you select and the trade-offs attached to them. The same principle applies when you edit a base weapon.

Trade-offs are part of the build
Functional attachments alter strengths and weaknesses rather than simply adding power. Activision uses examples such as a larger magazine: it provides more ammunition but can reduce movement speed. A bright laser can improve hip-fire accuracy while making your position easier to reveal. Those changes come from the selected parts, not from the fact that the gun carries a blueprint name.

For that reason, compare the actual attachment list and attribute changes instead of judging a blueprint by its rarity, animation or kill effect. A visually elaborate blueprint can perform worse for your play style than a plainly dressed base weapon if its starting configuration does not suit your range, movement or ammunition needs.
Cosmetic slots are different from functional attachments
Gunsmith separates combat-affecting attachments from cosmetic customization. Optics, lasers, muzzles, barrels, underbarrels, ammunition, rear grips, stocks and perks are functional categories. Camo, charms, stickers and reticles are presented as cosmetic choices. A cosmetic change does not substitute for a functional attachment, and a functional attachment’s effect still applies if the blueprint’s model does not visibly change.
What carries over between a blueprint and the base weapon
The underlying weapon identity
Switching from a blueprint to the standard version does not switch you to a different firearm family. Both versions use the same base weapon identity, so the weapon’s shared progression and Gunsmith relationship remain intact.
Weapon level and progression
Progress is shared across owned variants. Activision states that the base weapon becomes the highest level of any variant you own. You can therefore level one version and continue using another without maintaining separate level tracks.

Attachment functionality
When you replace a blueprint attachment, the replacement’s gameplay effects carry into the build. Switching to the base weapon does not invalidate those effects; it only changes which visual variant is displayed. The same attachment rules apply when you move back to the blueprint.
What does not automatically carry over
Blueprint artwork on every part
The blueprint’s visual treatment is not guaranteed to appear on every replacement attachment. A swapped component may use a standard model, while the receiver or other sections retain blueprint artwork. This mixed appearance is expected for some designs.
A blueprint-only stat multiplier
The official Gunsmith explanation attributes performance to the chosen attachments and their trade-offs. It does not describe a permanent stat multiplier that exists solely because a weapon is labeled a blueprint. If two builds use different parts, their handling can differ; that difference should be traced to the parts and their displayed effects.
Every visual effect on the base weapon
Distinctive camo, dynamic finishes and death effects are blueprint presentation features. Equipping the plain base version does not automatically reproduce the blueprint’s themed appearance. Cosmetic elements have to remain attached to the relevant variant or be selected through the available customization options.

Multiplayer: where the blueprint comparison matters most
The blueprint explanation is centered on Multiplayer Gunsmith and loadouts. In this context, you choose the weapon variant, open its Gunsmith, decide which functional attachments to equip and save the result as part of a loadout. The visual variant and the attachment configuration are related but editable layers.

Choosing between the curated setup and a custom build
- Keep the curated setup when its attachment mix fits the range, movement and recoil pattern you want.
- Change one part at a time when you like the blueprint’s role but need a specific correction, such as more ammunition or faster handling.
- Rebuild completely when the blueprint’s starting configuration conflicts with your preferred play style; the blueprint can still supply the look while the base weapon’s normal Gunsmith options supply the function.
How to verify a suspected visual bug
- Open the blueprint in Gunsmith and note the selected attachment names.
- Replace one attachment with a clearly different option.
- Check the attribute panel for the expected change.
- Enter a controlled match or practice situation and observe the handling, ammunition or aiming behavior relevant to that part.
- If the model still looks unchanged but the attributes and handling change, treat the result as the documented visual-display behavior rather than as an unequipped attachment.
Battle Royale uses a different weapon-acquisition rule
Do not apply Multiplayer blueprint assumptions directly to Battle Royale ground loot. In the September 22, 2021 Season 8 Battle Royale update, Activision said players would no longer find weapons of different rarity levels on the ground. Instead, they would find base weapons with no attachments and upgrade them with attachments of varying rarity.
That statement describes how Battle Royale loot works in that update: a base weapon is picked up first, and attachments are added during the match. It does not redefine Multiplayer blueprints as separate weapons, nor does it cancel the shared progression rule for owned variants. Mode-specific loot rarity and Multiplayer blueprint rarity refer to different systems.
Are blueprints pay-to-win or only skins?
Calling a blueprint “just a skin” is incomplete because Epic and Legendary versions can arrive with curated functional attachments. Calling the blueprint itself pay-to-win is also not supported by the documented mechanics. The official explanation does not assign a permanent stat bonus to the blueprint label; it says that selected attachments determine stats and behavior.
The useful distinction is:
- Cosmetic value: themed camo, dynamic visuals, death effects and other presentation features.
- Loadout value: a ready-made attachment configuration that you may keep or edit.
- Mechanical source of performance: the attachments currently equipped and their trade-offs.
If a particular blueprint is obtained through a store offer, event or another distribution method, that acquisition question is separate from the weapon mechanics. The evidence establishes shared progression and editable attachments, not a universal competitive advantage attached to every blueprint.

A reliable way to compare any blueprint with its base weapon
- Identify the base weapon. Confirm which standard gun the blueprint represents.
- Record the starting attachments. Note the four-part Epic or five-part Legendary configuration when applicable.
- Separate visual and functional changes. List camo, effects and other cosmetics separately from Gunsmith parts.
- Inspect the attribute panel. Use the displayed changes to identify the real performance trade-offs.
- Build an equivalent base-weapon loadout. Equip the same functional parts on the standard version where available.
- Compare in the intended mode. Multiplayer loadouts and Battle Royale pickups follow different rules, so test each in its own context.
This method prevents the two most common errors: assuming a flashy finish is a stat bonus, and assuming an unchanged model means a replacement attachment failed.
The bottom line on blueprints and base weapons
A blueprint is best understood as a presentation-and-loadout variant of the same base weapon. It can change the camo, visual effects and starting attachments, while remaining fully editable in Gunsmith. The attachments you choose determine the resulting stats and behavior, and the weapon’s level progression is shared across variants. What does not reliably carry over is the blueprint artwork on every replacement part. In Multiplayer, compare the actual build; in Battle Royale, follow that mode’s separate base-weapon-and-attachment loot rules.
