Collateral is a 5v5, Search and Destroy-based mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Teams alternate between attacking and defending two bomb sites, starting each round with pistols and earning cash for limited upgrades between rounds. It is a single-life mode: if you die, you lose your loadout, but your cash carries over.

Call of Duty Staff’s September 29, 2026 announcement describes it as “a new Multiplayer game mode designed for fans of Search and Destroy and those from the more competitive community.” That is the publisher’s positioning, not an independent assessment of the mode’s balance or competitive scene.

Every player begins with a pistol. Eliminations and objective play earn in-match cash, which players can spend between rounds on upgrades. The announced system makes death consequential: you lose your loadout, while your cash carries over to the next round.

- Equipment: Flash Grenade, Molotov Cocktail, Frag Grenade, Stim, Smoke Wall and Riot Shield.
- Pistols: Silenced Pistol, Revolver, Akimbo Pistols and Power Pistol.
- Standard-issue weapons: Shotgun, Light Machine Gun, Marksman Rifle, Silenced SMG and Agile SMG.
- Tier 1 weapons: Semi Auto Rifle, High Damage Rifle, Burst Rifle, Silenced Rifle and Sniper Rifle.
- Team support: a team UAV purchase.
These are announced in-game options, not a complete price list: the announcement does not state their costs or explain how the economy is balanced. The publisher also says further mode details will arrive closer to launch, so the published rules should be treated as announced rather than verified live-game behavior.

- Respawns
- Killstreaks
- Automatic health regeneration
- Custom loadouts
With no respawns, a player who dies cannot return during that round. The stated loadout loss and cash carryover are separate rules: death costs the current loadout, but not accumulated money.

When was Modern Warfare 4 announced to launch?
Activision’s September 29, 2026 announcement listed October 23, 2026 as the full-game release date. It also said eligible digital preorders or prepurchases would receive campaign early access beginning October 16. Those are dates as announced in that source; they do not independently confirm later schedule changes or availability in every region. Read the official announcement.
The official Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer overview also identifies Collateral as a multiplayer mode and gives its 5v5 format.
