Modern Warfare 4s Advanced Shader Delivery soll Shader schon während der Installation und bei Updates vorbereiten. Wer die Funktion nutzen möchte, muss laut PC Games jedoch zusätzlich die Xbox-PC-App installieren – auch wenn das Spiel über Steam oder Battle.net gestartet wird. Das heißt nicht, dass die App zum Starten des Spiels nötig ist: Activision empfiehlt sie für die Shader-Zustellung, und Spieler können auf das Feature verzichten.
Was Advanced Shader Delivery macht
Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) ist der neue Name für das zuvor als Shader Preloading bezeichnete Feature. Es liefert vorab kompilierte Shader während der Installation und bei Live-Updates, statt die Vorbereitung erst dann anzustoßen, wenn das Spiel sie benötigt. Activision beschreibt das Ziel als weniger Wartezeit vor dem Spielen.
Shader müssen auf die jeweilige Kombination aus PC-Hardware und Treibern abgestimmt werden. Laut Activisions Erklärung soll die frühere Vorbereitung die Shader-Verarbeitung während des Spielens verringern und dadurch Stottern sowie Leistungseinbrüche minimieren. Das ist die erklärte Absicht des Publishers, kein unabhängig gemessener Leistungsgewinn: Die verfügbaren Quellen nennen weder konkrete Zeitersparnisse noch Benchmarkwerte.
Warum Steam-Spieler die Xbox-App brauchen
Activision fordert PC-Spieler in seiner Anleitung vom 29. September 2026 dazu auf, die Xbox-PC-App herunterzuladen und zu installieren, damit ASD Shader während der Installation und bei Live-Updates zustellen kann. PC Games legt diese Anweisung ausdrücklich so aus, dass die Xbox-App für die Nutzung von ASD erforderlich ist – auch bei einer Steam- oder Battle.net-Version von Modern Warfare 4. Die App ist damit eine Voraussetzung für das Feature, nicht nachgewiesenermaßen für das Starten des Spiels selbst.

Der Haken betrifft also die zusätzliche App-Installation und nicht die Wahl des Launchers. Activision nennt Steam, Battle.net und Xbox auf PC als PC-Plattformen. Wer ASD nicht verwenden will, kann laut PC Games auf die Xbox-App verzichten; dann sollte man allerdings nicht mit der Shader-Zustellung durch dieses Feature rechnen.
Was Steam-Spieler beim Start und bei Updates erwarten können
Für die Steam-Beta galt eine wichtige Einschränkung: Beim ersten Start musste das Spiel Shader weiterhin kompilieren. Das Preloading griff anschließend bei späteren Updates. Activision erklärte damals, dass sich der Nutzen nach der Veröffentlichung mit dem regulären saisonalen Update-Rhythmus stärker zeigen solle und Spieler die Shader nur einmal kompilieren müssten. Das war eine Erwartung des Publishers zur späteren Nutzung, keine unabhängig bestätigte Aussage über eine getestete Verkaufsversion.

ASD verspricht daher nicht, jede Shader-Kompilierung oder jede Wartezeit zu beseitigen. Die belegte Beta-Erfahrung unterscheidet zwischen der Kompilierung beim ersten Start und der Vorab-Zustellung bei nachfolgenden Updates; wie genau sich das in der fertigen Version verhält, lässt sich aus diesen Angaben nicht als eigener Testergebnisbericht ableiten.
ASD deaktivieren oder unterbrechen
Activisions Beta-Hinweise beschreiben das Preloading als optionale Hintergrundfunktion, die Systemressourcen beansprucht. Der Publisher bezeichnet die Auswirkung als minimal. Spieler konnten die Funktion in den Einstellungen abschalten oder den zugehörigen System-Tray-Prozess unterbrechen; das Preloading sollte fortgesetzt werden, sobald sie sich im Spiel befanden.
