The Call of Duty franchise had sold more than 500 million copies by October 30, 2024, according to Activision-Blizzard. Separately, Microsoft described Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as the biggest launch in franchise history by day-one players and Game Pass subscriber additions. That launch record is about engagement and subscriptions—not a disclosed Black Ops 6 sales total.
How many copies has Call of Duty sold?
Activision-Blizzard reported that Call of Duty had passed 500 million copies sold across the franchise on October 30, 2024. The total covers the series from the original Call of Duty, released in 2003; it is not the sales figure for any single game. Guinness World Records records the franchise milestone, which was also reported by The Washington Post.
What does Black Ops 6’s “biggest launch” mean?
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella characterized Black Ops 6 as Call of Duty’s biggest release ever by two launch-day measures: day-one players and Game Pass subscriber additions. The cited reporting does not give exact counts for either measure. It also does not establish a Black Ops 6 unit-sales total.
These are different measures with different scopes: the 500-million figure is a lifetime copy total for the entire series, while the Black Ops 6 claim concerns engagement and subscription additions around one game’s launch. It cannot be read as proof that Black Ops 6 sold more paid copies than any previous Call of Duty.
